He was basically self taught, which explains his sloppy technique. Bruce is a legend because of his philosophy of the martial arts. He brought strategies, tactics to the forefront of the martial arts. That is his true value and contribution. Even today these concept are woefully absent from martial education.

@djbenr10 No man is God! If so, then why is he? His technique was sloppy and lacking. Besides Wing Tsun, he had no other formal training. He wasn't even a senior student of Wing Tsun. He was basically self taught, which explains his sloppy technique. Bruce is a legend because of his philosophy of the martial arts. He brought strategies, tactics to the forefront of the martial arts. That is his true value and contribution. Even today these concept are woefully absent from martial education.

He was far from sloppy, I teach Wing Chun, and have been studying Jeet Kune Do, and it is very accurate and direct. I do agree with some of the other parts of your comment, but Bruce was never sloppy, look at his fight with Bob Wall from Enter the Dragon when they were touching hands, that is the closest the film industry got to seeing JKD.

@URAGR8M8 Wrong, Van Dam fought with rules. He wasn't allowed to kill or seriously injure somebody in a tournament, if he did, he would be disqualified. Bruce Lee could have fought in tournaments, but it would have watered down his ability so much.
In a real fight, where death could be an outcome, Bruce Lee would probably have been unrivaled.

Chuck, Mike Stone and Joe Lewis were Lee's most prominent students at one time and between the three of them held every major karate championship trophy in the US.
Chuck was a pussy in comparison to Bruce.
Oh, and Bruce's 1st major kung fu influence was Wing Chun but he incorporated many other martial sports including western boxing and fencing...

Like the fmous scene when Lebelle walked over to him, picked him up, and held him while Brice screamed "Ill kill you," but could do nothing in return against Lebelle. Lebelle would have killed Lee. #2 Read about how Bruce refused to fight Gracie (the father), back in the 60's.

Lee knocked-out Pu Chung, a Choy Li Fut fighter, in the roof tops of Hong Kong in a 1958 Full-Contact match.

@abaskcasckbackj Lee became a member of the "Tigers of Junction Street," and was involved in numerous gang-related street fights. "In one of his last encounters, while removing his jacket the fellow he was squaring off against sucker punched him and blackened his eye. Bruce flew into a rage and went after him, knocking him out, breaking his opponent's arm. The police were called as a result."[37] The incident took place on a Hong Kong rooftop at 10 P.M. on Wednesday, April 29, 1959
