She was a lovely person, judging by the one interaction I had with her-- when I was 17, in 1983, I wrote her a letter, telling her, how much I loved her movies, and silent movies in general, and she wrote me back. It was a genuine reply, too, not a form letter. It's one of my most cherished possessions.

My grandmother looked very like her. It was a standing joke in the family that my grandfather had a portrait of Lillian Gish over the fireplace and told everyone it was his wife.

Beautifully done. Lillian Gish was so beautiful and talented. Back then, stars had to work a lot harder and in more primitive conditions than they do today. I can't think of any female star today that comes near Miss Gish and what she contributed to the cinema. Wonderful actress.
