wow that's what the bottom of it looks like my one and only time i went down it i was in the wrong gear at the top loaded with timber and only just made it to the first parking area near the run off when i put my rig onto the drivers side that was back in 2005 and doesn't look they have improved the signage to show first times that it is steep and curvy. I'll never be back on that road so long as i'm truckin. It brought back a few old memories thanks mate for sharing it. good video.
i do that run out to Toowoomba 2 or 3 times a week.bit of a mediocre climb..need to head over to New Zealand and give the South Islands otira gorge a run then you'll know the meaning of steep..20 mins of 15%-18% decline pick your gear at the top n kick back for a long and slow decent
@gm16v149 Yep, whats really scary are the ones who who don't go slow enough to begin with.
Ive seen a near new rigid tipper with a quad dog going so fast that you could hardly see his tail lights thru brake smoke, and he hadn't even got to the saddle ( about the 5min mark!).
yeah mate i know that feeling oh so well i learnt my lesson pretty quick when i put mine on it side scary to see it even worse being the one in control. you won't a nice hill climb or decent go from brainsdale to omeo sharp 40 km/h bends around the mountain with a straight drop on one side and straight rock face the other 125kms and it took me 2 and half hours to go up empty and 4 hours coming back loaded with livestock. That's on the omeo highway i think.
@CreRay You need to be able to descend without using service brakes, Truck brakes get very hot quickly and become inaffective.
If I was loaded with a single trailer, this descend would take 20-25 mins was has taken me 6 min 30 empty.
Without engine brakes I would be going too fast (even empty) to be "safe", brakes would cope for the distance however if some-one steps onto the pedetrian crossing down the bottom, well, that would get intresting
@shaned8845 : Thanks for your comments Shane. One last question: Are trucks in this category generally always equipped with Jake Brakes, instead of just an exhaust flap?

Nice vid. Without Jake Brake you'd have to go *really slow*, or else this could become dangerous right?

@CreRay yep, all the American sourced stuff anyway, The Euro stuff has come a long way forward, used in conjuction with a retarder work much better.
