@tarsonis10 Kyudokan uses a double whip use of the hips to add powers. As does several other Okinawan & Japanese styles; Kishaba Juku, Shuko Kai comes to mind. All traditional MA draw power from the koshi (hips) or tandien.
@NewEnglandBudo I train Shorin Ruy so i know about the hips, but here i cant imagine how moving your hips twice ( second time moving them back while hitting) adds power to hits. In Shorin Ryu you move your hip a little forward and it stays and waits for another move. Here its just twisting back and forth, an i just dont see the point. Could tell me more about advantages from this ?
@tarsonis10 Simple physics, action-reaction. Go to a wall and place one hand flat against it. Do your version of the hip twist. Then place 2 hands flat against the wall and do the double twist. Let me know how you make out?
@tarsonis10 Check out this version of Naihanchi by a Kishaba Juku Sensei Shinzato: Also search Toshiro Oshiro & Nishime Family Karate and check out their kobudo & karate.
Also search Shihan Shigeru Kimura and watch his double twist that he taught in the Shukukai.
@TH3aznEmperor Oshiro Sensei's teachers, Kishaba Chokei & Seigi Nakamura originally taught Matsubayashi and created the Kishaba Juku in the 90's He passed away and I believe the association was taken over by his brother, Chogi At some point in time, they separated and started using "Shima ha". Sensei is big into proper use of koshi (hip/ core) area just as the Kishaba Juku folks .
@TH3aznEmperor Continued from Below: Nakamura had developed the use of his koshi to such an extent that he could generate devastating power with little or no apparent body movement. I have not seen Oshiro sensei in over 10 yrs. So, I am not privy to all the changes in his dojo, etc. I would also suggest that you look for the NishimeFamilyKarate channel on YT. Or on the web, Kiyoshi Nishime is also a senior Shima ha teacher in Cincinnati OH, his sons teach in KY & IN.-- Good luck in your study
