i think this is not a high speed precision milling and turning 5 axis bec. the changing of tool in tool magazine was very slow. and the rpm was very low and also the feedrate. unlike the machine that i operate in japan very high rpm and very fast feed rate.
Christ... someone BUILT THIS! I struggle to write papers for my community college writing class, and someone BUILT THIS! I feel hopelessly unaccomplished.
@MrJamesonStyles The thing to remember is that this was built by scores of people, not an individual. The process required extensive communication amongst the team. Someone was writing manuals. Someone was communicating the scope, goals, and philosophy of the project. Very little is done today without team effort.
@BuickDoc Right, I wrote that in the context of, more or less, feeling like I am standing on the shoulders of giants. Naturally this took a team, I meant "someone" meaning a body of people, and by comparison, I am not involved in something quite like this, and I greatly admire the achievements of those who are.
'scuse me, but the drilling and turning is nothing. We drill until diameter 120mm in steel (260mm hollow) a lot faster. We could do the turning at least twice as fast on our big 4 Axis CNC-Lathe. But nice workpiece.
@Guds777 If your doing something on the centerline and can do so its better to turn the workpiece but you mostly come across that on a lathe, the drill bit spinning allows you to drill anywhere on the workpiece just like an endmill.
