  • What make is that guitar I know its a Taylor. It looks just like daves!

  • Awsome job!! I was Looking for a lesson on this song and found this and listened to the whole thing unlike all the rest

  • Great song, great version...you did an excellent job! And your guitars are so good...

I play this music too, but in the standard tuning, without a capo...and without your quality too...here is the link:

  • i broke the repeat button.

  • i just wanted to let you know that i have been listening to your covers for over an hour over and over. i am a huge critic when it comes to dmb and i think you are amazing. i posted your crush cover to my facebook because it needs to be heard. you are beautiful

  • This makes me melt.

  • The 914ce is a major factor in the tone quality, as far as the string sound goes it has to do with the tuning. As he said it's in Raised B as Dave uses that for a few songs. If you've seen DMB live you may not have noticed that he was switching to a guitar with special tuning as he has about 13 Taylor guitars that very similar. Dave uses a 97 Taylor 914ce as his main, it's the one with all the wear by the low e string. As far as this cover goes YOU ARE AMAZING.

  • @TheEyedeaOfYou If I"m not mistaken he plays Stay or Leave and Oh on a short-scale Gibson that's build to raised b tuning.

  • @citrix99301 That would be the Taylor 914C Baritone model, originally. It runs about 3 grand. Now there's a Dave Matthews custom version of it that adds inlays designed from daves artwork. There's even a crown on the 12th fret, missing a bead from its crown to pay tribute to LeRoi. Gone but never forgotten. they also added the nickname grux, also in memorium. and yes, it is tuned to raised B. thats the natural tuning for that guitar. on regular acoustic, move up to medium strings for richer lows

  • @SmithhausCraftworks raised B is still below E, so the thicker strings will offset the lost tension, keeping intonation correct, and improving bass response across the board. It helps a lot since you're playing without the taylor body sensors the baritone models use to enhance low end response. For anyone wondering, raised B is as follows, in order from low E (fattest string) to high e (thinnest of course). BEADF#E

and there you have the baritone guitar's concert pitch...

  • @citrix99301 He plays a Taylor gs7 with no cut away that is set in raised B tuning........He has a Veillette Gryphon he has been playing a few tunes on the past few years, such as "Sister" and so on........ He has several 97 Taylor 914c guitars, 2 Taylor W65 Walnut 12-Strings one in DropD the other in Standard for Grey Street. Your covers a dead on my man very cool to see on youtube.

  • I love your DMB videos! How did you learn to play all of those songs? Just by ear? I'm just starting to learn how to play, can you recommend a easy DMB song to try to learn for a beginner?

  • jek4321, its not his strings, its the fact hes playing a taylor 914ce, its the enzo ferrari of acoustic guitars

  • Great job, not only a perfect guitar cover but great vocals aswell

  • AWESOME

  • Your cover of this song gave me chills. Excellent job!

  • VERY GOOD, THANKXZ!

  • Beautiful x 10.000.000.000!

  • best cover ive seen if u could do a video of the chords and shti thatd be great

  • No one can do this as good DJM but I appreciate this. Great passing of time!

  • I saw many covers of this song, and this is the best one... Your touch guitar is really good, it comes into me (my english isnt very good, i hope u could understand me). I have a doubt, if your 6 is tuning B, how u tunned the other string? thank you!

  • this is beautiful...and has so much emotion i can feel it...please check out my davematthews inspired cover under TheSassyTiger

  • hi my friend showed me this video and i cant get enough of it!! you are so talented and i gave it a try myself ...thank you for the inspiration

  • Most underrated Dave song

  • fo sho homie damn the capo versions....lol no for real good job,

  • man, i keep on coming here to watch this vid.. great plying n good voice..

  • am i hearing things, or are there volume swells at the beginning...

  • you even kinda look like dave. the guitar sounds like radio city...voice is different but i like it

  • Nice job, one of my favorite songs of all time and you covered it very well. Great voice!

  • yeah man... nice job... sound quality is awesome... you did good

  • dave matthews can't be covered-he's too great in every aspect, but you did surprise me. good job.

  • SO worth it to have a raised b guitar. i've started writing songs on it already.

  • Wow, your voice is beautiful.

  • there is 3 versions.. capo on 7th fret.. standard which is how i play it(its a bit tougher) and in BEADF#B which is how dave plays it

  • I usually play it with a capo on the 7th - this sounds great. and im usually one who is not a fan of dave covers, but i've got to hand it to you man. it sounds great. keep it up

  • Passion is bleeding from this performance and in my opinion you need more soul, and thoat, when hitting the bottom registers. Great job!

  • hes fucking good so give him a break

  • I am learning this song myself. Is there anyway I can get the tabs you use for this? I would really like that. Awesome job.

  • Your voice is beautiful!

  • wow...

love that rocking well played version!!!

  • 914 taylor

  • good job

    great song

  • amazing! Give this man a record deal NOW!

  • how do you get your guitar to sound like that. are those just brand new strings? or are you using an amp or plug in? YOU'RE FREAKING INCREDIBLE

  • thank you....th guitar is just plug into a tube pre amp and into a board

  • actually that guitar is tuned to b flat i believe, which is the equivalent of having a capo on the 7th fret. its sounds very bright

  • its just b not b-flat.. b-flat would require having the capo on the sixth fret. raised b is the equivalent of having the capo on the seventh fret

  • yea thats correct

  • Excellent. what is the tuning with out capo?

  • its raised B

  • thanks

  • dude, quit your day job and do this..I never say this to people I see on Youtube but I think you genuinely have a great talent. Good job!

  • this was really good

  • what stings do you use to get that tuning, the strings I use use would break

  • lol im sure this guy gets mad chiks lol

  • Your just like me. You love drums and guitar and singing. Maybe do you play bass too? All I know is that you are amazing at all of those. Awesome job man.

  • excelent

  • dude, you do the best covers of dave. damn good job

  • I LOVE this song!! Excellent job! I was so excited to hear Dave do this at MSG this year...

  • Very Nice!

  • i absolutely adore this song, and you NAILED it. great job man.

  • that was amazing! you have a really good voice and nice falsetto....

now all u need is tim reynolds to play with you lol

  • Dude, I know ur better than that...Don't give the haters even a second of ur time. We make fun of people for our own shortcomings. You're f@ing amazing.Has Dave contacted you ever, cause I swear he should...I've been playing a long time and I've never heard anyone touch u at covering DMB

  • thank you very much....I have had the honor to meet him a few times, but no he never contacted me from here....i won't mind if he did....lol

  • @sss1621 Agreed. I've never heard anyone cover Dave Matthews like this.

  • great job, one of my favs.

  • my fav song and you nailed it man... keep it up, if your takin' requests, i dont think i've seen it done by you yet but how about Cigarette Lit

  • i love watching your vids...nice post man..couple of questions tho...how long have you been playing??and if you have any tips to practice strumming ive been playing for a month....thnx

  • How did you get that tuned to high b?

  • I use different strings

  • is that a taylor 914c ltd?

  • dude u r good enough to get signed w/ a label...do u write any of ur own stuff? and have u tried to get signed?

  • im actually wondering if you should stay or leave your moms basement

  • lo..thats funny.....dont hate cause your entire trailer can fit into "my basement" maybe your crack head mommy should have taught u some manners.....

  • Wow, this is my favorite song by Dave and you do it BEAUTIFULLY! =)

  • whats your guitar there - im searching for a accoustic barritone,

    cheers

    P

  • This is tuned to a high B, like a baritone, I know taylor makes a acoustic baritone, but u have to order it from them they want way too much like 3000, i think for it not really worth it....

  • nice, man.

  • YOU ARE OFFICIALLY THE LOVE OF MY LIFE

  • thank you so very much....saw him last night and they werent half bad....lol

  • If they play Stay or Leave I will pee my pants. Haha. Favorite Dave song, just happens to be from his solo album. You are amazing.

  • I am one of the biggest Dave Fans you will ever meet.. he was offically on my list until I heard you.... I have gone literally across the country to see DMB but you are amazing...I love you... My BF Said Dave was one THE list, but I have offically traded in for you!!!! Beyond HOT!!!!

  • Wow, thank you for making my idle time on youtube (at ridiculous hours) worthwhile!

  • this is amazing. You have the look and the skills man, if your voice was deeper you'd be Dave himeslf

  • Lol when I first saw this version i was like,FINALLY A VERSION WITHOUT A CAPO!!Soudns so much better.

  • hell yes, the capo cramps the big emotional feeling of the song

  • Im going to go buy some new strings this week and change one to standard and my junky one to this tuning.

  • Awesome!!

  • this was great. keep up the good work buddy. i really enjoyed this song. ps is that a gibson?

  • Do u have short term memory loss, you act like a jack ass on the grey street cover i did and then you say this was great and u enjoyed it....get the muiltiple personality disorder checked out....and no its not a gibson

  • Looks like a Taylor to me. Agreed, VERY good cover. Some of the best.

  • Hey man, sick job!!!

I looked for some "What would you say" in your videos but nothin! that should be your next video. keep it up man!

  • wow that guitar looks like daves how much did that cost you?

  • most likely that cost 1500+

  • because daves is over 4000

  • Didnt your mother ever tell you its not polite to ask how much things cost...lol It was a few bucks, and might be worth more now that they dont make it like this, but who knows

  • is that the presentation series talor?

  • when you tune to this tuning how many packs of string should i buy?

  • 2 because I bet you would break the first set trying to tune it some weird wrong way.

  • u need 3 cause u need 3 B strings anyway...

  • you need 3 b strings? i thought it was just tuned b-e-b-g-d-a. but i could be wrong.. ive never done it, just heard about it

  • I used an A string tuned up to a B, a G string tuned down to an E, a B string tuned down to an A, a high e string tuned down to a D, a B string tuned down to a F#, and a B string tuned to a B

  • capo on the 7th w/ standard tuning should do the trick

  • sounds great mman gotta say

  • the recording sounded great.....

  • Excellent cover dude. Where do I download the mp3 file?

  • Rythym is great. Playing it is one thing but nailing the lyrics is another. You have it down.

  • This is in order from standard Low E to high e?

  • yep

  • How do you tune to Raise B with out Breaking them strings?

  • I used different strings..I use an A string tuned up to a B, a G string tuned down to an E, a B string tuned down to an A, a high e string tuned down to a D, a B string tuned down to a F#, and a B string tuned to a B. You wont break the strings if you do it this way

  • you never cease to amaze me

  • did you stick this in raised B?

  • yes tuned to raised B

  • awesome cover! u hit it right on the money! nothing but the best!

  • where are u in all these videos its cool the background is like a real stage ...oris it......but ur awesome

  • your talented... but i think your covers would be better wihtout all the fancy backrounds and shit

  • I'll move my 9 Piece drum kit out of the way so its less fancy, Thanks for the A+ advice...hopefully that makes them sound better...lol

  • Nice work man.. You even got the same hair style as Dave.

  • dude, i randomly came accross your stuff and have watched almost all your stuff today at work (didnt feel like working)...i am a singer/songwriter myself from Washington DC and i have to say that you are incredible. quit this "hobby" crap man and go for it. your stuff is better than 99% of the stuff on the radio...vocal arrangements are nice as well.

  • Thank You Very Much....Maybe I'll someday be able too

  • sick of me yet? so is that a club or your basement? just sounds so good, bravo!!!!

  • nah, at least you say positive things, its my basement, I gave it alittle life...lol

  • your videos are cool, man.. and your good

  • Wow! I have never seen anyone cover dave so beautifully. How long have you been playing?

  • is there any specific way to get raised b tuning? like.. do you use an ungodly light string gauge or do you use the second set of strings from a set of 12? i know it sounds stupid, but i'd rather know for certain than experiment at the risk of breaking strings and wasting money.

  • I would like the answer to this question also! (otsegoflake)

  • i found out through experimentation.. buy a set of extra light strings and an extra b string. throw away the low e string and string from the bottom up as you would normally do, only start with the 'a' string and work your way up from there. when you get to the high e position, put the extra b string in that slot, but tune it as you would a normal b string so that it's lower than the string in the 2nd position. the tuning should be b-e-a-d-f#-b

  • btw, i'm not trying to plug my vid or anything, but i need some feedback on my cover. i'm just trying to figure out where the rough edges that need sanding are. thx

  • Getting high tension strings would work best...lol. Make sure your guitar can haddle it as well.

  • dude.... I see a lot fo people try to cover DMB.... you are a shining star among them. Good job! Check out my vids when you geta chance :-)

  • i love that you actually tuned a guitar to raised B for this. are you in a DMB cover band? cuz you've got the look, and def got the talent man. throw in even just a badass drummer and a violin and you could have yourself a sweet little gig.

  • ty..nah, just a fan, and i enjoy playing the songs, its pretty much how i learned how to play guitar by learning his songs

  • that is a really, truly, spectacular cover. well done sir.
