The first Hawaiians were not born Hawaiian. They came from other lands. If we found out that somebody had been here before them, would it make them less Hawaiian? I don't think it would. Unless you are 100% Hawaiian, it is likely that your are a unique blend of the many cultures that make Hawai'i great.

In 1893 162 US marines went on shore to protect US citizens during what they thought was to be a civil war between 1500 Honolulu riflemen and the Queens guard. The guard did a no show and the Queen surrendered without a fight to what became the Republic of Hawaii. Not one shot was fired by US troops. It wasn't until 1898 when the Republic of Hawaii became a US territory.

Also, it was US haole missionaries that taught Hawaiians English, thank them for near 100% literacy rate.
