The whole bible has good history after Genesis 10. It is not full history. The NT is very good overall history. Is it perfect, not so much, but it still has a point. Either it is good history or it is not. The bible did not speculate about many things so what else is new. Jesus story has no reason to fake. If you want to believe it is up to you. I do believe since I think it is good history. If you don't want to believe it, welcome to America, you can choose what you want. Freedom
@MRGV7373 If you accept or do not accept history is a choice of humans. WWII, WWI, Civil War - how far do you go back until something does not have enough validity. It does not make it true or false. The bible is the proof for the life of Jesus. God is real, or God is not real. You get to choose your for yourself what your believe. My hope is you choose Life, In Jesus but at the same time, If God is real then God will show Herself to you. Nature, History, good signs of God, but belief?
What chance have you got to be a Christian if your born in a non Christian country? There is no way children(in Saudi Arabia for example) will ever get a chance to learn Christianity so God will punish them. How does a murderer who believes in God and asks to be forgiven is ok but a man who does good all his life but doesn't believe get punished? I'm so confused:-(
@benbranson007 All the first believers in the first 100 were non christian so millions have done it before. I grew up Catholic and no upbringing is worse to become a believer in Jesus than RCC. So don't blame or make an excuse of how you were raised if you don't or do come to belief. If you have heard the Gospel, you are stuck with a decision to either believe or not believe. No in between exists. You get to choose, so make it count. Read and think, is it worth the effort to believe??
God damn it, Christians make being an atheist sound so awesome "worshiping yourself" and such. I guess it needs to sound tempting to explain why people would do it, because admitting that they just *happen* to be more logical and educated would be their undoing.
Jesus had absolutely nothing to do with the Bible & his teachings were fairly atypical of the times & location. No doubt an enlightened teacher named Yeshua, Issa, or Yus Assaf etc. did walk the earth at that time. There's no doubt that because of his blasphemous teachings he most like disappeared, expectantly, leaving most of his disciples lost & confused. At which point they used older mythologies to explain his disappearance. Where did Jesus go? Well, Look up Roza Bal for a possible answer.
@coyoteself - If Jesus had nothing to do with the bible then how do you know he existed? If they are not his teaching in the bible then what where his teachings? Roza Bal? I don't think so.
@Franknarfable ROTFL Jesus (Not his "Real" name) existed almost 400 years before the "Bible" as you know it today and so he had absolutely nothing to do with it. As for his teachings, when compared to Judaism, they didn't fit & were even seen as heretical by many, & so he found himself on a cross. So where do you think Jesus went after the third day following his death by crucifixion? Other than the Bible the only other places that mention anyone like Jesus are Roza Bal, & a temple in Nepal
@coyoteself - So Jesus existed 400 years before the bible as we know it? Explain.
"So where do you think Jesus went after the third day following his death by crucifixion?" - What crucifixion? You said he has nothing to do with the bible as we know it. Make up your mind.
"Also explain the 16 missing years of his life" - He never existed, doesn't need explaining.
"Odds are that there is a gospel or two that address those question" - Now it's my turn to ROTFL
@Franknarfable Are You serious or are you 12 years old? The day that Jesus was born, the Bible did NOT exist!! LEARN your Bible history & research the Consul of Nicaea, and the Synod of Hippo. Sheesh... Didn't someone teach you how to use Google?? If so then Google the "missing years of Jesus." While you're at it Google the "Gnostic texts" and "Biblical apocrypha." You'll find plenty of information pro and con.
@Franknarfable "So where do you think Jesus went after the third day following his death by crucifixion?" - What crucifixion? You said he has nothing to do with the bible as we know it. Make up your mind.
I Already explained below where Jesus may have gone after the crucifixion & it's one of the few places that may actually have proof of his existence. At the same time it removes his divinity & runs counter to the findings of the Consul of Nicaea.
@coyoteself - You're talking absolute nonsense. You have not explained one thing. Telling someone to google stuff is not explaining things. I don't need to read about the Consul of Nicaea, the Synod of Hippo or the missing years of Jesus. Do you know why? Because Jesus never actually existed.
Jesus Christ is a literary invention devised by the Romans after they had destroyed Jerusalem. His ministry is a SATIRE of the conquests of Titus during the Roman-Jewish wars.
@coyoteself - Here is what you said, this is you're explanation.
"I already explained below where Jesus MAY have gone after the crucifixion & it's one of the few places that MAY actually have proof of his existence"
How about I just explain how he was invented? Would that be easier?
@Franknarfable Well then Jerk, why didn't you say that from the BEGINNING??? If you would have said that from the beginning I would have tended to agree with you. Up to this point, I thought you were some ignorant Bibull thumper and I was trying t be polite. I am perfectly aware that Jesus is most likely a construct. Now if you would have looked into the references I listed, you might have actually learned something which would have made your anit-Jesus debate at least sound educated.
@coyoteself - You have not said one educated thing. What on earth would I learn from you? My argument comes straight from the original texts. Your argument is utter nonsense.
@Franknarfable As someone who is at least familiar with the names of Yeshua, Isa, Yuz Asaf, Jesus & how they relate to Mithra, Horus, Krishna, etc I'm also familiar with many of the Gnostic, & some of the Biblical apocrypha enough to know that there's a LOT of questions about the actual existence of the man called Jesus. In fact if you knew about the Consul of Nicaea & the Synod of Hippo, then you would see how the story of Jesus was used to manipulate the ignorant masses. Someone I AM NOT!
@coyoteself - I couldn't give a crap what happened at the Consul of Nicaea. I just gave you exactly how the character of Jesus Christ was created.
Josephus FLAVIUS wrote the Jewish War. He worked for Vespasian (the father), Titus (the good son) and Domitian, aka the TRINITY of Flavian Emperors. You follow?
Now, look down the list of Roman Emperors and tell me which Emperor after Domitian HONORED the name Flavius.
The manipulation began years before you think. It began in the 1st century.
@coyoteself - There is a way of communicating without the insults, it's unnecessary. And I did say that Jesus never existed pretty early in the conversation so I don't know how you got the wrong end of the stick.
I hope I have explained a few things you didn't know, but to be honest I have not studied further then the 1st century. I know a lot of people go on about the time of Constantine and perhaps at some point I will look into it a little more.
@coyoteself - Do you always speak to people like this? I did say that Jesus never existed pretty earlier on, so i've no idea why you thought I was a bible basher.
I am sure I will look into the times of Constantine a little more, but I hope I have given you information that perhaps you where not aware of.
@Franknarfable I only responded in kind to your confrontational responses to me and yes I more or less called you a 12 yo "Jerk, " because you're acting like one. In your 1st few responses to me, you appeared to come across as an angry Bibull thumper and thus the misunderstanding. And sorry, you didn't provide me w/ any information I was not already aware of. In fact, you even choose to deny the resources of information I gave you to help prove YOUR point.
@Franknarfable I only responded in kind to your confrontational responses to me and yes I more or less called you a 12 yo "Jerk, " because you're acting like one. @coyoteself - "And sorry, you didn't provide me w/ any information I was not already aware of"
So you knew about the relationship between Jesus and Titus? You knew about the Flavian trinity? How about the relationship between Suetonius and Revelations? Or Neros persecutions of zealot terrorists being mistaken for Jesus Christians? Constantine being the first Flavius on the throne since the Trinity? You knew all of that? I doubt it.
@coyoteself - Do you always speak to people like this? I did say that Jesus never existed pretty earlier on, so i've no idea why you thought I was a bible basher.
I am sure I will look into the times of Constantine a little more, but I hope I have given you information that perhaps you where not aware of.
@Franknarfable So next time you pick a fight with someone who pretty much believes as you do. At least state your position instead of acting like a troll and blindsiding a possible Allie. By the way, I gave you a LOT of good information to use in future debates with Bibull thumpers. I gave you all sorts of good ammunition .Look up all the reference I gave you and you'll find some very useful information. Now you see why I didn't make sense.
@coyoteself - I will give you an brief outline of the Jewish War by Josephus -
Titus begins in Galilee, his men fish the enemy out of the water. He then goes to Gadara where the enemy are described as wild beasts. In Jerusalem a woman called Mary eats her son during passover. Three men are crucified and one survives. The rebel leader Simon is killed in Rome and the rebel leader John is spared.
Five events in same sequence, using the same names and same locations as in the NT.
@coyoteself - An outline of the ministry of Jesus in the NT -
Jesus begins in Galilee, he makes men the fishers of men. He then goes to Gadara, he casts demons into swine. In Jerusalem he offers his flesh to be eaten. Three men are crucified and Jesus "survives". Simon is killed in Rome and John is spared.
Also, Jesus predicts Simons death and the sparing of John and Titus fulfills. Jesus predicts fall of Jerusalem a generation later and Titus fulfills.
@Franknarfable Also explain the 16 missing years of his life. Also after his crucifixion Jesus could NOT continue to teach anywhere near there and so why wouldn't we travel to the Kashmir where his teachings of peace could more easily accepted? Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John don't have an answer to those questions. Odds are that there is a gospel or two that address those question, but they were not included when the Bible was edited and hand written MANY years later
ACTUALLY, The Bible DOES predict such things. Revelations says that 2 witnesses will come back to earth and they will witness to the masses. Then a mob will kill them and leave them in the street. They will remained dead for 3 days and ALL of the world will laugh at their bodies. On the third day they will be raised and caught up to heaven. However how will a world, even during that time, see their bodies and laugh??? This predicts either the internet or satellites. Interesting no?
can i ask a question and get a serious answer from someone in the god squad?
why is it that your beliefs are right and our belief (those who dont believe in god) are wrong? didnt god make us all the same? so what with all the hate? remember people religion is a BELIEF NOT A FACT
@KingHeartless1418 Lol im a believer and I dont hate you.You can believe in whatever u want but the point is that there is only 1 truth.Lets say that u know 0.2 % of the worlds knowledge.Dont u think there might be a God in the other 99.8% ? Yes we are all equal but why wouldnt u try to believe in the only way to eternal life, rather then not believe and find out u were wrong. There is a possibilty im wrong and also possibilty that you are wrong.
@MrUrosSrb That is why religion kills me, I don't want to believe in it to find out that I'm possibly wrong. While you on the other hand want to because you might be right, no one should have these choices to make, and no one should suffer for eternity, in every ones mind they think they are doing good, take Hitler for example, people say he is going to hell, but in his mind he thought what he was doing was right. You see what I mean? It should be ETERNAL CHILL not ETERNAL PLEASURE OR SUFFERING.
Jesus is not real. A man-made character is all he is. The SUN is the real Jesus. Jesus is a copy-cat messiah. The holy word that the Christians rely on is a complete lie! There is no truth in the mess. Religion....PERIOD....was started in the Motherland. The Christian idealogy is stolen out the caves and pyramids that are located in Luxor, Egypt. The writing is on the walls.
@nabuchiznasar is that what they teach u in church? i thought that all Christians were supposed to turn the other cheek. I know why u insulted me, because just like your believes u r a hypocrite. Fuck god and Jesus u inbred mother fuckers. The bible contains incest, rape, murder, and other human behaviors that Hollywood or any one in their right mind reject, yet u fucking imbeciles suck on that unholy cock goes to show how retarded bible humpers are.
continued. is the ape still amongst us if we are related?? second why didnt all the apes evolve to humans, why only certain individuals?? natural selection doesnt discriminate right??
i can go on defending my point 4 ever, and by the sounds of it so can you, all im saying is if i cant proove my point 100% beyond doubt, neither can you, and on the topic of the big bang, we either were created by a supreme deity, or we were the result of an unexplained expansion in space time!! one or the other, so if we were not created we are the modern version of the ape that evolved into us? well ok contemplate this, the arrival of a new species means the extinction of the other, why is
everything in the cosmos started in a infinite point of mass, which has 0 volume.. now explain to me according to the laws of physics, how anything can be of infinite mass and 0 volume??? it defies physics according to physicists and yet your sitting here telling me we are descendants of apes, now im happy to say there is equal weight for both arguments, but if you find alot of evidence against christ erxistence, others can find evidence for his existence in abundance.
@TheDarvus and whats your solid proof of all this aside from your vaguely formulated oppinion regarding consipracy theories and some pop historians.. so lets go with what you say the romans invented a faith to unite their empire, what about all the jews that converted i.e desciples, what about all the saints that died without even knowing who jesus was, first casuality named estephan.. ill leave you with this to contemplate.you believe the world began in a big bang, which suggests that
@lyon1535 how typical!! you think all people who believe in god are close minded, uneducated, blind , derelict fools right?? if u wana talk science then u proove it with science, religion does not need to be proven in any case because it falls under the category of faith. faith=confidence or trust in some one or something/belief which is not based on proof.. translation taken from maquarie english/english dictionary..
@nabuchiznasar No, I don't think that. I think people like you are closeminded about your religion. That does not necessarily mean you are a close minded person otherwise.
@lyon1535 , well thats cool, but as u have already assumed something, it should also be safe for you to assume that ur oppinion equals fukall to me...since u kno jack about me..i believe people like u wana abolish all traces of religion so that hedonism takes over, and u dont feel guilty about chasing all ur inner desires, go read some sigmond frued regrading that, might help u.
@lyon1535 once again, u dont kno me 4 a bar of soap, so by throwing ur remarks and insults, ur making an ass out of ur self, spare ur self the misery and piss off, my comments were intended for the uploader and since u got nothing inteligent to say aside from talking shit.. this is where ill leave it at kid..
@lyon1535 ur one persistent motherfucker aint u??!! p.s ur attampts at insulting peoples inteligence and self esteem is even more pathetic than your net hero attitude..im saddened that i even wasted my valuable time replying to a sad, worthless creatures like you...
Anyways, it should be noted that you're quite persistent as well. If you're so convinced you're wasting valuable time (half a minute?) responding to my comments, then why don't you just stop? You seem every bit as interested in continuing this conversation as I am.
@lyon1535 yeh im 12 motherfucker, and ur getting enlightened here by a 12 yr old, how is this for interest in your character, go get ur self fucked by a donkey... get it yet..now fuck off
how many people throught recorded history have claimed to be the son of god, walked on water , were mentioned in 3 different monotheistic religions& by neutral historians be it greeks, roman, or otherwise do you know off??
it's quite noble to tell tales to kids to keep them on the straight and narrow; however we now live in the information age. We are not gullible, . The earth is not flat, we are not the center of the universe, giants, talking snakes, burning bushes, guy living inside a fish for 3 days? come on; try to be noble and live a peaceful life, for that i don't need a bible. Does any one really need to be told what's good or bad? do you need someone to tell u how to tie your shoe laces every time?
@ZeusHelios did u know the tale of Heracles has been around for along time? do you know the details of said tale? then u should know that tale was being told 400 years before the supposed birth of J.C. his tale draws clear parallels to J.C. (son of god, temptation, ascended to heaven to take his place next to god) common bro, u have to realize those tales in the bible are just that tales, fables, metaphors to give you food for thought, don't take that junk literally.
3) Josephus as well affirms that the Septuagint was a translation only of the Law of Moses in his preface to Antiquities of the Jews. , Jerome, a church father and Bible translator , affirms Josephus' statement regarding the authorship of the Septuagint in his preface to The Book of Hebrew Questions,
2) Moreover, the Septuagint in our hands is not a Jewish document, but rather a Christian one. The Septuagint as we have it today, which includes the Prophets and Writings as well, is a product of the church, not the Jewish people. The manuscripts that consist of our Septuagint today date to the third century C.E. , The present Septuagint is largely a post-second century Christian translation of the Bible,
Re: "Parthenos" "To begin with, your contention that "parthenos does mean virgin" is incorrect. The Greek word parthenos can mean either a young woman or a virgin; for this reason the Greek word parthenos can be found in the Septuagint referring to someone who is not a virgin. For example, in Genesis 34:2-4, Shechem raped Dinah, the daughter of the patriarch Jacob, yet the Septuagint refers to her as a parthenos after she had been defiled.
@ZeusHelios who wrote the bible?? sure those r the words of "god" but men wrote it; they could have put whatever the hell they wanted in there. Christ only wanted good for the world, and we keep putting our differences on the front burner and religion keeps that fire on the burner a burning. they make money by pinning us against the other races, and we are stupid enough to help them with their grotesque task.
We need a world without religions, our founding fathers were shooting for such an ideal, unfortunately we fell short of their expectations. @ZeusHelios i give time and money to different charities here and abroad, i don't want to convert them into anything, everyone deserves a chance to be unique. Most leaders overseas are doubtful of charity work from foreigners due to pedophile priests and crooked ministers, without religion alignment we've gained trust in remote places and helped people out.
@ZeusHelios i have no ill will towards the lambs, but i do hate me some shepherds. These cock munchers are like drug peddlers dealing to kids who don't know any better. Have u ever seen stats on drug addicts? a good percentage are kids who are trying to fit in and reach out to anything that they find welcoming(sound familiar?) those guys(rabbis, priests, pastors and all other forms of shepherds.) prey on the weak, why? tax breaks, and political control. the more followers the more votes and $
@nyfootballgiants1 These things are the works of evil men not God and religion Men may use religion to do there evil works. Christ only taught good things But maybe we can all try out a world without religion But I doubt this will happen any time soon
@ZeusHelios Moderation in all things is the best way to go. As far as stats go, there seems to be a regrouping of sorts going on. The fundamentalists here make up 15-20% of the population and are draining the more fundamentalist thinkers from the mainstream religions whose numbers, understandably, are going down. The number of what would be called "unbelievers" has doubled to almost 30% in the last ten years.
@ZeusHelios 2) There most likely will be problems down the road because the fundamentalists have now gained a foothold in government and are intent on legislating their narrow beliefs on the rest of the population. As in the past, Christianity has never hesitated to use force if necessary to impose their beliefs on everyone else.
@Matthew1944 What we need is for every one to let people live the way they choose so long as it does not harm anyone. No one including religion should force anyone to live the way they think we should live Governments should be separate from religion since not every one is religious Governments are for running the country and seen that all runs smoothly in our societies.Men can't be forced to serve God that can only come from their hearts.
@ZeusHelios -What we need is for every one to let people live the way they choose so long as it does not harm anyone."
That is the ABSOLUTE bottom line, Zeus.
.........................
Governments are for running the country "
The ones with the power who are "running the country", not actually elected, don't believe in separation of church and state and DO believe that everyone should toe the line to their beliefs.
Adam and Eve may have had many children. Cain and Abel may not have been the first. Who knows how many children they had before Cain and Abel. Remember no one knows how long Adam amd Eve lived before the fall and may have had many children before the fall.
rgbda, i'm an atheist and I find your arguments are vapid and wrong.
1) any bible reader would counter your argument about Cain and the "city" with Genesis 5:4. This shows you are trying to be an authority on a subject you are very poor on.
2) Do you check what the word for "city" actually means? Strong's Concordance defines the word used in Gen 4:17 as: "a city (a place guarded by waking or a watch) in the widest sense (even of a mere encampment or post)". NO metropolis is required.
@muslUnbounded That makes sense and just comes to show unless we read the scriptures in context and understand the original meanings we can so easly misunderstand what the bible is saying.
@ZeusHelios The editing of the Christian OT presents even more problems. "Young woman" was changed to "virgin" in spite of the fact that, the verse, read in context, is quite clear that it isn't about Jesus. In the NT, verses have been added to Matthew and Mark (last 12 verses). Matthew 28:19 was "in my name" before being edited to support a trinity.
@Matthew1944 Isaiah 7:14 says that a virgin will bear a son. The problem is dealing with the Hebrew word for virgin, which is "almah." According to the Strong's Concordance it means, "virgin, young woman 1a) of marriageable age 1b) maid or newly married." Therefore, the word "almah" does not always mean virgin. Additionally, there is a Hebrew word for virgin: bethulah. If Isaiah 7:14 was meant to mean virgin instead of young maiden, then why wasn't the word used here? -cont-
@ZeusHelios Strongs give you the Christian perspective only. Betulah ALWAYS means virgin. Rabbi Singer explains with this: One of the places where the uncommon Hebrew word alma appears in the Bible is in Proverbs 30:18-20 which reads, There are three things which are too wonderful for me, four which I do not understand: the way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship in the middle of the sea, and the way of a man with a young woman [b’alma].
@ZeusHelios 2) This is the way of an adulterous woman: she eats and wipes her mouth, and says, “I have done no wrong.” , King Solomon informs us that once a man has been with an alma there is also no trace of the fornication that had occurred between them. once this adulterous woman has eaten (a metaphor for her fornication), she removes the trace of her sexual activity by exclaiming, “I have done no wrong.” The word alma clearly does not mean virgin.
@Matthew1944 The LXX is a translation of the Hebrew scriptures into Greek. This translation was made around 200 B.C. by 70 Hebrew scholars. In Isaiah 7:14, they translated the word "almah" into the Greek word "parthenos." According to A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature parthenos means "virgin." This word is used in the New Testament of the Virgin Mary (Matt. 1:23; Luke 1:27) and of the ten virgins in the parable (Matt. 25:1, 7, 11). -CONT-
@ZeusHelios The Septuagint translated in 150 BC consisted only of Torah, the first five books. Genesis - Deuteronomy, by Jewish scholars. Isaiah isn't in the Septuagint, but in the Penateuch. Together, they make up the Tanakh. The Pentateuch was translated by Christian scholars in later years and they edited the text to reflect the Christian viewpoint.
@Matthew1944 -cont- If the Hebrews translated the Hebrew word "alma" into the Greek word for virgin, then they understood what the Hebrew text meant here.
Why would Isaiah choose to use the word almah and not bethulah? It was probably because he wanted to demonstrate that the virgin would also be a young woman.
@ZeusHelios He used the word "almah" because he didn't mean a virgin. Read the entire thing in context.
14 Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign: behold, the young woman shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Now skip a verse and read: 16 Yea, before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land whose two kings thou hast a horror of shall be forsaken.
@ZeusHelios Read the entire chapter in context from a direct Hebrew to English translation from the Tanakh which has remained the same since its first writing. Jewish scribes were forbidden to change even a letter during copying and often counted just the letters of a line to ensure this. In fact, ANY verse should be always read in context in this manner.
@ZeusHelios, that's true, especially when religious nuts (all priests & ministers) and tv shows like "riddles of the bible" present such misleading idiocies.
I'm laughing about a current show that talks about Cain and Abel. Abel kills a lamb as a sacrifice and when Cain kills Abel the show wonders, how would Cain know how to kill when no man had ever been killed before? LOL! Abel KILLED a lamb! DUH! These shows lack even the remotest reading comprehension when it comes to the bible!
@muslUnbounded Makes me think of a time I was at an art gallery that featured Tom Thompson, a famous Canadian painter (Group of Seven). Two older gals came strolling by and one adjusted her glasses and peered at an article. "I wonder what the he was trying to say?" she asked with furrowed brow. What she was actually looking at was Thompson's palet on which he mixed his paints. Same kind of DUH!
@muslUnbounded Have you checked out "Creation Stories from Around the World"? Some pretty interesting stuff from every country and several among the North American Indians too.
@Matthew1944, i searched for it and came up with lots of similarly termed videos. the thing i find interesting is that unless we are being misled, several significant cultures seem to indicate "extraterrestrial gods" ruling over humans anciently. i'm undecided since i don't read ancient sumerian, sanskrit, etc.
I find amerindian legends to be too vague, since they can refer to animals as people.
but i have noticed parallels with the old testament and the greek myths of olympians & titans.
@Matthew1944, the story of the titans sounds like the story of the nephilim of Gen 6. it makes me wonder if the genesis mention is relying on people to be familiar with the greek story.
@muslUnbounded - I have never thought about that, must. Interesting though. The titans were sons of Zeus, I believe. Promethius who brought light to mankind, I think was a titan. The nephilim were also sons of gods who mated with human women. That will be worth researching.
@Matthew1944, it is not surprising since the greeks got their religion from mesopotamia (from sumeria?), where the OT was written (& invented?).
you have tried to make a big difference between pagans & jews but the reality is that if there was an ancient culture that birthed both religious trajectories, one with a focus on the creation & the other with a focus on the creator. in the OT, yhwh says his identifying sign rests solely in the sabbath day (ezek 20:20) which babylonians "sort of" kept.
@muslUnbounded - The virgin born man-god who was killed as a sacrifice for others sins belongs in Roman mythology and not with the Jews. Romans were considered to be pagan by the Jews and so I use that term. It's the origin of the story that I'm concerned with. Granted essentially both of them have pagan beginnings but the Jesus man-god story has its origins with Rome, not Israel.
@muslUnbounded I used to be really interested in that, especially the Erik Van Danikan stuff. Now, I just take it with a grain of salt and wait. Dunno. If extra-terrestrials actually existed, I would think we'd have more physical evidence for them. My son says that while living in the country, he and some neighbors saw a huge luminscent globe with a light beaming down to the earth come across the night sky - totally silent, pause, then move on.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@JESUSsmokesCRACK " The holy Father then poured turpentine on Cuna, set him on fire, and burned him to death."
I don't know why you would get too many negative comments for bringing out a fact from history. Read "Victims of the Christian Faith". truthbeknown(dot)com/victims(dot)htm
It seems that is how Pauline Christianity won its top dog position - It was spread by the sword right from the get-go.
john 5:23..that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
john 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... 1:14 - And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us..Jesus christ is god....
People need to accept that they can only rely on each other, not magic or entities that don't exist. We let children and the needy and the sick die, how can we go to church on Sunday and ask for forgiveness when on Monday we carry on like nothing is wrong. Care about each other not some fucking god that would kill children. fuck god and the bible they are full of shit.
@nyfootballgiants1 Your language and behaviour shows we wouldn't live in a better world without God. Clearly you show no concern for humanity and I bet you have done very little to help those in need. Why complain about the world in need when you do little about it. And how do you think we would live in a better world without God or religion you have just shown it that there would be less respect or concern for others. You want a better world set the example to children and all.
@ZeusHelios And how do you think we would live in a better world without God or religion "
"The 2004 United Nations' Human Development Report, which ranks 177 countries on a "Human Development Index," measures such indicators of societal health as life expectancy, adult literacy, per-capita income, educational attainment, and so on. According to this report, the five top nations were Norway, Sweden, Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands. All had notably high degrees of secularism..
@Matthew1944 I had heard the opposite regarding the stats you gave I have heard there is more crime and suicides among atheist than those who believe I agree that religion and politics or governments should be separate No one should be made for follow a religious belief if they are not in that religion or be made to join a religion. Every one should have their own free choice
@ZeusHelios - I have heard there is more crime and suicides among atheist than those who believe "
You heard wrong, probably from apologists who like to use twistery to smudge facts in their favor. The top ten countries in the world for murder are all highly Catholic.. On the rest, I absolutely agree.
@Matthew1944 I can accept last comment but then the same can be said about other organisations twisting stats and fact for what ever reason Maybe as part of a government plan to rid religion. I dont want to go into conspiracies but it would not surprise me. I think I will go on my own observations and I see no difference in atheist or beleivers behaviour in our societies There are good and bad atheist and Christains. But for me true Christians Follow Chris example.
@ZeusHelios "Twisting stats" is generally done when people want something to reflect what they already think. The have the final conclusion, then alter the supporting data. True "Christians" are Jews, long dead now. Christians today follow Paul.
@Matthew1944 As regards to the Human Development report this might show the differences in our societies rather than religious beliefs As places that are also religious also have very low crime rates. I do not think it much to do with religion but how a society has developed Its a bit like towns I lived in a town with low religious beliefs yet it was full of crime I lived also in a town with religious beliefs and was low on crime.
@ZeusHelios Religion has a strong hand just by its presence in a society. Crime develops out of poverty and a dearth of education, most common in religious countries. Religion, especially Christianity, stress the afterlife over living. As we move away from religion, humanitarian interests grow and education and well being in this life takes precedence. I live in such a town but its small and low in crime.
@Matthew1944 As for priest etc who do evil things That has nothing to do with religion but the individuals Atheist have already shown themselves to be no better than beleivers Whoever you and what ever your beliefs are it will depend on who you are as a person and what kind of society you were brought up in and how much you follow what you believer in So for me both atheist and believers are no better than each other This is nothing to do with Christ teaching who taught what was Good for us all.
@ZeusHelios First of all, Zeus, because one isn't a Christian, doesn't make him an atheist. There are plenty of Deists around, same as many of those who founded this country. Jesus teachings focused on how you live. Pauline Christianity largely focuses on faith , belief and heaven and quite often forgets about the living and you will find that most among Catholics and protestant fundamentalists.
@ZeusHelios 2) It goes on to say: "If this often-touted religious theory were correct-that a turning away from God is at the root of all societal ills-then we would expect to find the least religious nations on earth to be bastions of crime, poverty, and disease and the most religious nations to be models of societal health.
@ZeusHelios 3) A comparison of highly irreligious countries with highly religious countries, however, reveals a very different state of affairs. In reality, the most secular countries-those with the highest proportion of atheists and agnostics-are among the most stable, peaceful, free, wealthy, and healthy societies. And the most religious nations-wherein worship of God is in abundance-are among the most unstable, violent, oppressive, poor, and destitute."
@Matthew1944 These are the works of men not of God Christ teachings were good for all.. Which countries you are speaking of where people are suppressed by religion. Are you referring to Muslims If so then you may have got your information incorrect as Muslims are not a suppressed people. You may have a dictator who suppresses its people and use religion as an excuse.
@ZeusHelios Which countries you are speaking of where people are suppressed by religion
The report is fairly long but can be accessed on line. I don't think Moslem countries are mentioned specifically since they are a bird of a different color. I think it's a country by country comparison. There is also a map of the ten top countries in the world to live in. The US didn't make it.
In 1966, the phrase "In God we Trust" was added to the Dollar Bill, should (In A Dead Middle Eastern Man We Trust As Our New God With Blind Faith) be removed from the American Dollar Bill? I would like to see Abraham Lincoln's QOUTE added on the back of The American Penny, (“The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my profession. I could never give assent to the long complicated statements of Christian dogma”), US President.
@MagicTellaVision I will agree with you about the dollar bill because we are not all religious and therefore governments should not mix with religion. We should make our own choices I would not use Abraham's Lincolns quote either as this may offend and it still involves religion. I would use instead anything which shows humankinds good achievemnts.
@ZeusHelios Everyone knows Lincoln's quote: "The bible is not my book". And he is not alone either. Have you heard of the Jefferson bible? Religion largely thrives on an ignorant, devoted flock to ensure that they remain faithful and manageable. Education leads to background research and questioning. Religion cannot stand up to that because in fact, there is no historical support for the story.
@Matthew1944 What did Lincoln know except what they knew back then. Why can we trust his words but not the authors of the bible. If he is an atheist then he will say something like that. Perhaps if we all check out facts supporting the bible and going against it then we can make up our minds without been biase. If we want to find the truth then we must keep an open mind and gather information from both sides and decide from there. Search and we will find the truth
@ZeusHelios Lincoln wasn't an atheist. Christians don't have a monopoly on God. He was a diest. I've already done that and the conclusions don't support the miracles or a man-god.
@Matthew1944 Yes sorry that's correct about Lincoln . But even still what I'm saying is who do we believe can lincoln's words be trusted and or believed any more than any one else including the authors of the bible. I my self am a believer who believes God only intervenes when necessary. And my searching and experience has lead me to this conclusion. But I continue to search and I'm ready to accept the change in my beliefs if I felt it was right Thanks for yout input.
@ZeusHelios - That is among quotes from Lincoln. Lincoln was simply saying that although he gave Christianity lip service as everyone was forced to do in those days, he believed in God but didn't care for the bible. I don't think God intervenes at all although I think that the energy can be tapped into by something like prayer. Your search sounds very reasonable, zeus.
one question that would prove either the bible is false or true, what race is Adam and eve as they where the first people on the planet the whole planet would be their race, unless of course you are a mormon then you believe that black are cursed by God which is the reason for their color however it does not explain asians or other races

How is there no higher name than the name of Jesus if the letter J was created around 500 years ago by the europeans. Please fact check with any search engine on the internet.
If men inspired by god wrote the bible, how did they get the names wrong of Jesus, Jahova, Joshua, Jacob and others.
@TheDarvus You are still the only person in the world delusional enough to think that Josephus is Paul. You haven't provided one single book suggesting that Josephus was Paul. All you have are silly conspiracy theories, one of which happens to appear in a book with a comment from Eisenman, that states - "IF it is only partially true" - Wow, what a ringing endorsement! Scholars aren't on your side. That is the simple truth.
His quote is anything but an endorsement for your nonsense
@Humbler25 You haven't provided one single book suggesting that Josephus was Paul."
Josephus was a historian and a governor in Israel for a time, born shortly after 30AD. He wrote about a character called Saulos and when taken with the activity described in Acts in the bible, parallels the actions of Paul/Saul who was originally a Herodian, sent from Rome to quell rebellion, it points to the Paul of the bible who is the actual father of Pauline Christianity of today.
Wasn't the debate about the existence of Jesus in history and not specifically about the supernatural existence of God? Is the atheist in the video changing the subject of his own debate?
@TheDarvus LOL, no you don't... just more quote mining! Is that all you can do? Robert Eisenman never said that in support of any of your nonsense. If fact, he believes 100% in the historical Paul and has even written books on the historical James. Looks like you're finished here as all you can do is quote mine and commit a logical fallacy each time you do. No respected scholars agree with anything you have said. You can quote mine all you want, but that is the simple truth.
@TheDarvus LOL, more quote mining. Robert Eisenman never stated that Josephus was Paul anywhere or the gospels being satire. In fact he believes 100% in the historical Paul. He even believes and has written books on the historical James. Once again, your own sources work against you. Your thesis is dead and once again its been proven that you have nothing to support it.
@TheDarvus LOL, no you don't! Just more quote mining. Robert Eisenman never stated that Josephus was Paul anywhere or the gospels being satire. In fact he believes 100% in the historical Paul. @TheDarvus And you are incapable of giving a single quote to back up your nonsense that isn't quote mined. LOL
Look, you've been defeated all over youtube, even someone as dense as you must realize that you simple don't have a leg to stand on. I don't know why you just don't give up and go read a book to educate yourself on these matters.
@TheDarvus knowing you, you probably quote mined him too! the simple truth is that one wrote letters and one didn't. Two very different genres would mean two very different styles with also very different purposes behind their writings.
The Suetonius quote is wrong. He wrote about the Jewish population of Rome being expelled from the city because of the instigations of "Chrestus". Apologists contort this passage to make it a reference to Christ.
Chretus was a common Roman name ,usually given to a freeman. The passage is actually quite clear - Chrestus was a political activist who gave speeches that riled up the Jews of Rome. He told them about the plan to build a Roman pagan temple in Jerusalem. That caused them to riot.
@TheDarvus Have you actually examined the styles? They are actually two completely different genres and if that is all you have, you really don't have anything.
@TheDarvus It makes you someone that doesn't know basic grammar because everytime you attempt to insult me, it confirms that insult is more fitting for you. LOL
Your theory has been refuted all over youtube, it goes against common sense and logic. The only evidence you have for it is quote mined and that is a logical fallacy. You lose! yet again.
How can anyone deny God? He's everything. I believe we all have purpose in this world. Besides, say that there is no God, ok, well we die and nothing happens. But say there is a God, well, everything is written. Believers will be righteous and non-believers will be outside. God is love people :)
@briEsp90 You prove he exists [you cannot] and I shall embrace him. He is a myth, built on over thousands of years. He was possibly even a She at one time and almost certainly had a twin. Look up your proto indo european religions and you will see where you creation myths, your god and your jesus originated. They are nothing new, just a revamped version of the myths of an ignorant uneducated bronze aged world.
It is time to put our childish things away now and embrace reality!
@TheDarvus Your theory has been refuted all over youtube. All you have to support it involves quote mining, which you have even admitted to doing. You can't use logical fallacies to support your nonsence.
If I'm uneducated, and I know how to use "your" and "you're" but you don't, what does that make you? LOL
@TheDarvus If I'm uneducated, and I know how to use "your" and "you're" but you still don't. Even with your latest post. What does that make you?
Your theory as been refuted all over youtube. You don't have a single bit of evidence to support, except for quote mining, which you now have admitted to, and that is a logical fallacy. History and logic don't support any of your nonsense.
@TheDarvus Of the two of, we all know whom the idiot is. It is the one still hasn't learned the difference between "your" and "you're" so they have to think of other ways of wording an insult. LOL
Your theory has in fact been refuted all over youtube, every part of it! You simply don't have anything to back up any of your nonsense and not a single person has been swayed in your favor because everybody can see right through your garbage.
@TheDarvus Sorry for being educated on proper grammar. You really should know the difference by now. You fail to read any books that include evidence, so your ignorance is of your own choosing. Everything you have said has been refuted quite easily actually, all over youtube.

I'm so confused:-(
benbranson007 2 months ago
@benbranson007 All the first believers in the first 100 were non christian so millions have done it before. I grew up Catholic and no upbringing is worse to become a believer in Jesus than RCC. So don't blame or make an excuse of how you were raised if you don't or do come to belief. If you have heard the Gospel, you are stuck with a decision to either believe or not believe. No in between exists. You get to choose, so make it count. Read and think, is it worth the effort to believe??

Jesus had absolutely nothing to do with the Bible & his teachings were fairly atypical of the times & location. No doubt an enlightened teacher named Yeshua, Issa, or Yus Assaf etc. did walk the earth at that time. There's no doubt that because of his blasphemous teachings he most like disappeared, expectantly, leaving most of his disciples lost & confused. At which point they used older mythologies to explain his disappearance. Where did Jesus go? Well, Look up Roza Bal for a possible answer.
coyoteself 5 months ago
@coyoteself - If Jesus had nothing to do with the bible then how do you know he existed? If they are not his teaching in the bible then what where his teachings? Roza Bal? I don't think so.
Franknarfable 4 months ago
@Franknarfable ROTFL Jesus (Not his "Real" name) existed almost 400 years before the "Bible" as you know it today and so he had absolutely nothing to do with it. As for his teachings, when compared to Judaism, they didn't fit & were even seen as heretical by many, & so he found himself on a cross. So where do you think Jesus went after the third day following his death by crucifixion? Other than the Bible the only other places that mention anyone like Jesus are Roza Bal, & a temple in Nepal
coyoteself 4 months ago
@coyoteself - So Jesus existed 400 years before the bible as we know it? Explain.
"So where do you think Jesus went after the third day following his death by crucifixion?" - What crucifixion? You said he has nothing to do with the bible as we know it. Make up your mind.
"Also explain the 16 missing years of his life" - He never existed, doesn't need explaining.
"Odds are that there is a gospel or two that address those question" - Now it's my turn to ROTFL
Franknarfable 4 months ago
@Franknarfable Are You serious or are you 12 years old? The day that Jesus was born, the Bible did NOT exist!! LEARN your Bible history & research the Consul of Nicaea, and the Synod of Hippo. Sheesh... Didn't someone teach you how to use Google?? If so then Google the "missing years of Jesus." While you're at it Google the "Gnostic texts" and "Biblical apocrypha." You'll find plenty of information pro and con.
coyoteself 4 months ago
@Franknarfable "So where do you think Jesus went after the third day following his death by crucifixion?" - What crucifixion? You said he has nothing to do with the bible as we know it. Make up your mind.
I Already explained below where Jesus may have gone after the crucifixion & it's one of the few places that may actually have proof of his existence. At the same time it removes his divinity & runs counter to the findings of the Consul of Nicaea.
coyoteself 4 months ago
@coyoteself - You're talking absolute nonsense. You have not explained one thing. Telling someone to google stuff is not explaining things. I don't need to read about the Consul of Nicaea, the Synod of Hippo or the missing years of Jesus. Do you know why? Because Jesus never actually existed.
Jesus Christ is a literary invention devised by the Romans after they had destroyed Jerusalem. His ministry is a SATIRE of the conquests of Titus during the Roman-Jewish wars.
Pay attention.
Franknarfable 4 months ago
@coyoteself - Here is what you said, this is you're explanation.
"I already explained below where Jesus MAY have gone after the crucifixion & it's one of the few places that MAY actually have proof of his existence"
How about I just explain how he was invented? Would that be easier?
Franknarfable 4 months ago
@Franknarfable Well then Jerk, why didn't you say that from the BEGINNING??? If you would have said that from the beginning I would have tended to agree with you. Up to this point, I thought you were some ignorant Bibull thumper and I was trying t be polite. I am perfectly aware that Jesus is most likely a construct. Now if you would have looked into the references I listed, you might have actually learned something which would have made your anit-Jesus debate at least sound educated.
coyoteself 4 months ago
@coyoteself - You have not said one educated thing. What on earth would I learn from you? My argument comes straight from the original texts. Your argument is utter nonsense.
Franknarfable 4 months ago
@Franknarfable As someone who is at least familiar with the names of Yeshua, Isa, Yuz Asaf, Jesus & how they relate to Mithra, Horus, Krishna, etc I'm also familiar with many of the Gnostic, & some of the Biblical apocrypha enough to know that there's a LOT of questions about the actual existence of the man called Jesus. In fact if you knew about the Consul of Nicaea & the Synod of Hippo, then you would see how the story of Jesus was used to manipulate the ignorant masses. Someone I AM NOT!
coyoteself 4 months ago
@coyoteself - I couldn't give a crap what happened at the Consul of Nicaea. I just gave you exactly how the character of Jesus Christ was created.
Josephus FLAVIUS wrote the Jewish War. He worked for Vespasian (the father), Titus (the good son) and Domitian, aka the TRINITY of Flavian Emperors. You follow?
Now, look down the list of Roman Emperors and tell me which Emperor after Domitian HONORED the name Flavius.
The manipulation began years before you think. It began in the 1st century.

So you knew about the relationship between Jesus and Titus? You knew about the Flavian trinity? How about the relationship between Suetonius and Revelations? @coyoteself - I will give you an brief outline of the Jewish War by Josephus -
Titus begins in Galilee, his men fish the enemy out of the water. He then goes to Gadara where the enemy are described as wild beasts. In Jerusalem a woman called Mary eats her son during passover. Three men are crucified and one survives. The rebel leader Simon is killed in Rome and the rebel leader John is spared.
Five events in same sequence, using the same names and same locations as in the NT.
Explain that.
Franknarfable 4 months ago
@coyoteself - An outline of the ministry of Jesus in the NT -
Jesus begins in Galilee, he makes men the fishers of men. He then goes to Gadara, he casts demons into swine. In Jerusalem he offers his flesh to be eaten. Three men are crucified and Jesus "survives". Simon is killed in Rome and John is spared.
Also, Jesus predicts Simons death and the sparing of John and Titus fulfills. Jesus predicts fall of Jerusalem a generation later and Titus fulfills.
I hope you're following this.
Franknarfable 4 months ago
@Franknarfable Also explain the 16 missing years of his life. Also after his crucifixion Jesus could NOT continue to teach anywhere near there and so why wouldn't we travel to the Kashmir where his teachings of peace could more easily accepted? Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John don't have an answer to those questions. Odds are that there is a gospel or two that address those question, but they were not included when the Bible was edited and hand written MANY years later
coyoteself 4 months ago
ACTUALLY, The Bible DOES predict such things. Revelations says that 2 witnesses will come back to earth and they will witness to the masses. Then a mob will kill them and leave them in the street. They will remained dead for 3 days and ALL of the world will laugh at their bodies. On the third day they will be raised and caught up to heaven. However how will a world, even during that time, see their bodies and laugh??? This predicts either the internet or satellites. Interesting no?

@KingHeartless1418 Lol im a believer and I dont hate you.You can believe in whatever u want but the point is that there is only 1 truth.Lets say that u know 0.2 % of the worlds knowledge.Dont u think there might be a God in the other 99.8% ? Yes we are all equal but why wouldnt u try to believe in the only way to eternal life, rather then not believe and find out u were wrong. There is a possibilty im wrong and also possibilty that you are wrong.
MrUrosSrb 5 months ago
@MrUrosSrb That is why religion kills me, I don't want to believe in it to find out that I'm possibly wrong. While you on the other hand want to because you might be right, no one should have these choices to make, and no one should suffer for eternity, in every ones mind they think they are doing good, take Hitler for example, people say he is going to hell, but in his mind he thought what he was doing was right. You see what I mean? It should be ETERNAL CHILL not ETERNAL PLEASURE OR SUFFERING.

it's quite noble to tell tales to kids to keep them on the straight and narrow; however we now live in the information age.

ZeusHelios 7 months ago
@ZeusHelios Moderation in all things is the best way to go. As far as stats go, there seems to be a regrouping of sorts going on. The fundamentalists here make up 15-20% of the population and are draining the more fundamentalist thinkers from the mainstream religions whose numbers, understandably, are going down. The number of what would be called "unbelievers" has doubled to almost 30% in the last ten years.
Matthew1944 6 months ago
@ZeusHelios 2) There most likely will be problems down the road because the fundamentalists have now gained a foothold in government and are intent on legislating their narrow beliefs on the rest of the population. As in the past, Christianity has never hesitated to use force if necessary to impose their beliefs on everyone else.

@Matthew1944 What we need is for every one to let people live the way they choose so long as it does not harm anyone. No one including religion should force anyone to live the way they think we should live Governments should be separate from religion since not every one is religious Governments are for running the country and seen that all runs smoothly in our societies.Men can't be forced to serve God that can only come from their hearts.

rgbda, i'm an atheist and I find your arguments are vapid and wrong.
NO metropolis is required.
muslUnbounded 7 months ago
@muslUnbounded That makes sense and just comes to show unless we read the scriptures in context and understand the original meanings we can so easly misunderstand what the bible is saying.
ZeusHelios 6 months ago
@ZeusHelios The editing of the Christian OT presents even more problems. "Young woman" was changed to "virgin" in spite of the fact that, the verse, read in context, is quite clear that it isn't about Jesus. In the NT, verses have been added to Matthew and Mark (last 12 verses). Matthew 28:19 was "in my name" before being edited to support a trinity.
Matthew1944 6 months ago
@Matthew1944 Isaiah 7:14 says that a virgin will bear a son. The problem is dealing with the Hebrew word for virgin, which is "almah." According to the Strong's Concordance it means, "virgin, young woman 1a) of marriageable age 1b) maid or newly married." Therefore, the word "almah" does not always mean virgin. Additionally, there is a Hebrew word for virgin: bethulah. If Isaiah 7:14 was meant to mean virgin instead of young maiden, then why wasn't the word used here? -cont-
ZeusHelios 6 months ago
@ZeusHelios Strongs give you the Christian perspective only. Betulah ALWAYS means virgin. Rabbi Singer explains with this: One of the places where the uncommon Hebrew word alma appears in the Bible is in Proverbs 30:18-20 which reads, There are three things which are too wonderful for me, four which I do not understand: the way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship in the middle of the sea, and the way of a man with a young woman [b’alma].
Matthew1944 6 months ago
@ZeusHelios 2) This is the way of an adulterous woman: she eats and wipes her mouth, and says, “I have done no wrong.” , King Solomon informs us that once a man has been with an alma there is also no trace of the fornication that had occurred between them. once this adulterous woman has eaten (a metaphor for her fornication), she removes the trace of her sexual activity by exclaiming, “I have done no wrong.” The word alma clearly does not mean virgin.
Matthew1944 6 months ago
@Matthew1944 The LXX is a translation of the Hebrew scriptures into Greek. This translation was made around 200 B.C. by 70 Hebrew scholars. In Isaiah 7:14, they translated the word "almah" into the Greek word "parthenos." According to A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature parthenos means "virgin." This word is used in the New Testament of the Virgin Mary (Matt. 1:23; Luke 1:27) and of the ten virgins in the parable (Matt. 25:1, 7, 11). -CONT-
ZeusHelios 6 months ago
@ZeusHelios The Septuagint translated in 150 BC consisted only of Torah, the first five books. Genesis - Deuteronomy, by Jewish scholars. Isaiah isn't in the Septuagint, but in the Penateuch. Together, they make up the Tanakh. The Pentateuch was translated by Christian scholars in later years and they edited the text to reflect the Christian viewpoint.
Matthew1944 6 months ago
@Matthew1944 -cont- If the Hebrews translated the Hebrew word "alma" into the Greek word for virgin, then they understood what the Hebrew text meant here.
Why would Isaiah choose to use the word almah and not bethulah? It was probably because he wanted to demonstrate that the virgin would also be a young woman.
ZeusHelios 6 months ago

@ZeusHelios He used the word "almah" because he didn't mean a virgin. Read the entire thing in context.
14 Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign: behold, the young woman shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Now skip a verse and read: 16 Yea, before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land whose two kings thou hast a horror of shall be forsaken.
Matthew1944 6 months ago
@ZeusHelios Read the entire chapter in context from a direct Hebrew to English translation from the Tanakh which has remained the same since its first writing. Jewish scribes were forbidden to change even a letter during copying and often counted just the letters of a line to ensure this. In fact, ANY verse should be always read in context in this manner.
Matthew1944 6 months ago
@ZeusHelios, that's true, especially when religious nuts (all priests & ministers) and tv shows like "riddles of the bible" present such misleading idiocies.
I'm laughing about a current show that talks about Cain and Abel.

@muslUnbounded -but i have noticed parallels with the old testament and the greek myths of olympians & titans."

Matthew1944 6 months ago
@Matthew1944, the story of the titans sounds like the story of the nephilim of Gen 6. it makes me wonder if the genesis mention is relying on people to be familiar with the greek story.
muslUnbounded 6 months ago
@muslUnbounded - I have never thought about that, must. Interesting though. The titans were sons of Zeus, I believe. Promethius who brought light to mankind, I think was a titan. The nephilim were also sons of gods who mated with human women. That will be worth researching.
Matthew1944 6 months ago
@Matthew1944, it is not surprising since the greeks got their religion from mesopotamia (from sumeria?), where the OT was written (& invented?).
you have tried to make a big difference between pagans & jews but the reality is that if there was an ancient culture that birthed both religious trajectories, one with a focus on the creation & the other with a focus on the creator. in the OT, yhwh says his identifying sign rests solely in the sabbath day (ezek 20:20) which babylonians "sort of" kept.
muslUnbounded 6 months ago
@muslUnbounded - The virgin born man-god who was killed as a sacrifice for others sins belongs in Roman mythology and not with the Jews. Romans were considered to be pagan by the Jews and so I use that term. It's the origin of the story that I'm concerned with. Granted essentially both of them have pagan beginnings but the Jesus man-god story has its origins with Rome, not Israel.

@muslUnbounded I used to be really interested in that, especially the Erik Van Danikan stuff. Now, I just take it with a grain of salt and wait. Dunno. @Matthew1944 I can accept last comment but then the same can be said about other organisations twisting stats and fact for what ever reason Maybe as part of a government plan to rid religion. But for me true Christians Follow Chris example.
ZeusHelios 6 months ago
@ZeusHelios "Twisting stats" is generally done when people want something to reflect what they already think. The have the final conclusion, then alter the supporting data. True "Christians" are Jews, long dead now. Christians today follow Paul.
Matthew1944 6 months ago
@Matthew1944 True.
ZeusHelios 6 months ago
@Matthew1944 As regards to the Human Development report this might show the differences in our societies rather than religious beliefs As places that are also religious also have very low crime rates. I do not think it much to do with religion but how a society has developed Its a bit like towns I lived in a town with low religious beliefs yet it was full of crime I lived also in a town with religious beliefs and was low on crime.
ZeusHelios 7 months ago
@ZeusHelios Religion has a strong hand just by its presence in a society. Crime develops out of poverty and a dearth of education, most common in religious countries. Religion, especially Christianity, stress the afterlife over living. As we move away from religion, humanitarian interests grow and education and well being in this life takes precedence. I live in such a town but its small and low in crime.
Matthew1944 7 months ago
@Matthew1944 As for priest etc who do evil things That has nothing to do with religion but the individuals Atheist have already shown themselves to be no better than beleivers Whoever you and what ever your beliefs are it will depend on who you are as a person and what kind of society you were brought up in and how much you follow what you believer in So for me both atheist and believers are no better than each other This is nothing to do with Christ teaching who taught what was Good for us all.
ZeusHelios 7 months ago
@ZeusHelios First of all, Zeus, because one isn't a Christian, doesn't make him an atheist. There are plenty of Deists around, same as many of those who founded this country. Jesus teachings focused on how you live. Pauline Christianity largely focuses on faith , belief and heaven and quite often forgets about the living and you will find that most among Catholics and protestant fundamentalists.
Matthew1944 7 months ago
@ZeusHelios 2) It goes on to say: "If this often-touted religious theory were correct-that a turning away from God is at the root of all societal ills-then we would expect to find the least religious nations on earth to be bastions of crime, poverty, and disease and the most religious nations to be models of societal health.
Matthew1944 7 months ago
@ZeusHelios 3) A comparison of highly irreligious countries with highly religious countries, however, reveals a very different state of affairs. In reality, the most secular countries-those with the highest proportion of atheists and agnostics-are among the most stable, peaceful, free, wealthy, and healthy societies. And the most religious nations-wherein worship of God is in abundance-are among the most unstable, violent, oppressive, poor, and destitute."

MagicTellaVision 7 months ago
@MagicTellaVision I will agree with you about the dollar bill because we are not all religious and therefore governments should not mix with religion. We should make our own choices I would not use Abraham's Lincolns quote either as this may offend and it still involves religion. I would use instead anything which shows humankinds good achievemnts.
ZeusHelios 7 months ago
@ZeusHelios Everyone knows Lincoln's quote: "The bible is not my book". And he is not alone either. Have you heard of the Jefferson bible? Religion largely thrives on an ignorant, devoted flock to ensure that they remain faithful and manageable. Education leads to background research and questioning. Religion cannot stand up to that because in fact, there is no historical support for the story.
Matthew1944 6 months ago
@Matthew1944 What did Lincoln know except what they knew back then. Why can we trust his words but not the authors of the bible. If he is an atheist then he will say something like that. Perhaps if we all check out facts supporting the bible and going against it then we can make up our minds without been biase. If we want to find the truth then we must keep an open mind and gather information from both sides and decide from there. Search and we will find the truth

@Matthew1944 Yes sorry that's correct about Lincoln . But I continue to search and I'm ready to accept the change in my beliefs if I felt it was right Thanks for yout input.

@ZeusHelios - That is among quotes from Lincoln. How is there no higher name than the name of Jesus if the letter J was created around 500 years ago by the europeans. Please fact check with any search engine on the internet.
If men inspired by god wrote the bible, how did they get the names wrong of Jesus, Jahova, Joshua, Jacob and others.
WOW

Humbler25 9 months ago

Humbler25 9 months ago
@TheDarvus Sorry for being educated on proper grammar. You really should know the difference by now. You fail to read any books that include evidence, so your ignorance is of your own choosing. Everything you have said has been refuted quite easily actually, all over youtube.
