  • He got the idea from another film, and...?

  • rubiks cube aint a puzzle for me, i just wanna solve it faster so people don't have to wait 2 mins

  • sooo.. I dont get why you would want to downplay the fact that a person can solve the cube and be in movies. what is the point to this vid?

  • he solved the cube in 9 moves.

  • @DahBigBadWolf just a random piece of info, not all rubik's cubes are equally messed up...

  • @MissRockOn20 Faster internet speeds have led to high amounts of addiction rates in South Korea. Now the US is about to produce much faster internet speeds and I fear the same problem will arise here.

  • @MissRockOn20 Exactly so is not the internet both a curse and a blessing? A curse in that we are too dependent on it but a blessing in that it makes everyday life much more efficient.

  • Was Bowling for Rubick ever actually made?

  • I think its great that Smith has paid homage to Chameleon Street twice. If he gave credit to the original that would be cool but not exactly necessary. This ain't stealing, its sharing.

  • its always made out so he only has to move it like 10 times

he moves it to slow and you can hear how many times he moves it

  • @12345678909879887654 have you never noticed the time lapses.....get real

  • What was your intention on making this video? Yeah he might have repeated using the rubiks in different scence but it was entertaining.

  • It's funny how solving rubiks cubes used to be a symbol of intelligence but now everyone can do it

  • @batistaker123 but how many are sub 30?

  • @coolfrog23 me

  • A Rubik's Cube aficionado recognizes that the starting pattern of the cube is easy to solve as it's not really scrambled very much, only enough to have a dot of color in the center of another color. It is very simple to unscramble such a cube! It was not fully scrambled, and does not represent any great intellectual feat for any job interviewee.

  • Did anyone else notice at :50 that a couple of the pieces seem to be cover by one white sticker?

  • I wish it was that easy to impress people. I can solve it in under 30 secs and people just blow it off as nothing

  • @drewsky684

I have to say, most people are still impressed when I solve a Rubik's cube for them, but it's not going to be getting me any jobs.

  • @terracottapie shut the fuck up. i solve hypercube puzzles, faggot.

  • so he likes to solve rubik's cube i don't see anything wrong with that its one of his many talents GO WILL SMITH!

  • its not THAT similar...granite there are similarities that YOU pointed out specifically to a WHITE man of power and a STRUGGLING black man...but in this case Will Smith's charactor in his show, was not struggling. And in the Movie Will Smith had to add a cinimatic feel to the life of the gentleman he was playing...other wise it would have been a documentary...so im sure that the Rubik's Cube event wasn't the onyl thing that was fabricated in the movie...Sir but your video was midley intertaining

  • eastsheen cube

  • I like how they solve it in like 10 moves.

  • @CTCodemonkey n how they use 30 sekunds on each move.

  • lol

will uses his whole hand to turn a side

  • There is a suggestion in this film that Will Smith's character has never attempted to solve a rubik's cube prior to this moment. Anyone who has solved a rubik's cube knows that it would be impossible to complete it first time.

  • rubiks cubes are really easy to solve

  • yeah... once you lear it this vid looks so normal :D

but its will smith... i wanna see an other hollywood star do that :D

  • @lax4444 i have always wanted to know how to do it though. I mean I heard that mathematical minded people are really good at solving a rubiks cube puzzle, but I don't understand how. I know how a cube works, but how would you go about figuring out how to get all colors to one side each?

  • @SAOrules lol u dont to need to have a mathematical mind to learn how o solve a cube im horrible at math and i can solve one in almost under a minute the cubes use algorethems to solve the sides and u dont do it side my side u work from the bottom up or down lol so if u have any free time check out this guy danbrown thats were i learned its pretty easy once u get the hang of it and it looks really cool when u can do one lol

  • @SAOrules - You don't need to know anything about math at all, to be able to solve the rubik's cube. Once you learn, it's very easy. Then, it's all about getting faster.

  • @lax4444 Lets not tell those who have not solved it before.. shall we?

  • @lax4444 Do you want a medal?

  • Solving the rubik's cube as a way to establish a character's inteligence is hardly a new idea, and not limited to Will Smith. It is also used in Seinfeld and the Simpsons for example.

  • I'm rebelling by not solving it.

  • i primi 2 sono falsi xDD solo nell ultimo quello del film alla ricerca della felicità lo fadavvero il cubo..... comunque come si chiama la canzone??? nome's song??

  • I solved it back in the 80's or early 90's then lost interest in it.

  • @Tortak39 what method do u use?

  • i just solved the cube this morning

  • Gratz :) I solve them as a hobby I get around 10-20 seconds :) Its a nice thing to do

  • prove it

  • lol okay, I know all 21 PLL no OLL all F2L no X Cross I use method CFOP also known as Fridrich,

  • @Tortak39 - That's what I thought.... NOTHING but a couple video game videos. Fucking poser.

  • @xxoxia Havent got a camera man, lol im no poser :))

  • @Tortak39 What method do you use to orient the last layer then? There are probably some alghoritms for it, but none as good as OLL, even if you 1-4 look it, stop the bullshit plxz ;P

  • @Tortak39 - You get 10 to 20 seconds without knowing any of the OLL's? You're full of shit. I know full OLL and PLL, and my best time after a year of solving is only 13 seconds.

  • @xxoxia I average 14 seconds with 2-look OLL full PLL F2L and cross

  • And, no one who solves would actually say they don't know extended cross. That doesn't even matter. You've been watching videos and picking up terms from them. I'm going to check out your channel and see if you have any solve videos.

  • Damms dis da fucking nerd convention

  • @AdizzimkckB913 damms dis da convention fa people who can spell.

  • i can say, that withut the internet, i wouldnt be able to complete the rubiks cube.

    Tim Berners-Lee thank u and those b4 u.

  • the one in the taxi all he had to do was a inside corner rotation and did the wrong algorithm?

  • @coolfrog23 - He actually learned from some Chinese guy, how to solve it using the beginner's method, just for this movie. He was actually solving it, but he sucks.

  • you spelt happiness wrong LOL not happyness. good video anyway!

  • WILL (power of self) SMITH (one who creates useful objects from basic materials) . The man is a perception wielder and using your freewill to do so. He is owned by whichever studio owns him, probably Paramount since they own the majority of scientology slaves. The Rubix cube is a programming item - this is why you are seeing the repetitive use of it. His "job" is to mold your perception and as you can see he is good at it. If he wasn't, you'd see some public controversy surrounding him.

  • NO FUCKING SENSE!

the 3x3 cube is the most popular toy and /or puzzle of all times is strange how it haven't been used more often since look so cliche and is a scene that had already worked.

they needed to get the guy impressed some how and will brought the idea to the table,

keep in mind the guy said. noboby can solve it, which implies the movie is set back in at least the 80' when not many people knew how to.

there is no plot from no evil corporation or big studios interests behind this.

  • @97AcuraEL1 no the movie is called "The Pursuit of Happyness" with a Y if you see the movie you will know why at least if you are paying attention, but you are right the correct spelling would be Happiness.

  • yeah suprisingly solving a rubiks cube does work on girls

  • its true wierdly

  • what a pointless video! pointing out something that just don't need to pointed out!

  • a guy solves the cube twice and now he has a "love affair"? get a life, dude. stop trying to spark controversy over something so incredibly stupid.

  • i think in fresh prince and the first clip the cube is 'rigged' for an easy solve but as far as i can see in the pursuit of happiness he is using the petrus method and doing a legitimate solve.

  • @Angel8795 - He isn't using petrus, hahaha.... he learned the beginner's method from some Chinese guy just for the movie. Will Smith, otherwise, knows nothing about cubes.

  • What was the point of this video?

  • there iz none. he's jus takin shots at will. he's got nuthin else better 2 do durin his breaks frum porn

  • ideas work when the action is legit!

  • He did it in under a minute. Search "Will Smith solve the rubik's cube"

  • was so badly mixed up in every of the videos of him solving a rubics cube, that its no wonder he can do it

  • hah, Will smitt can't do it under a minute, and neither can you. If you really know how to a R-cube which I do, then you would know that the cube was already half done.

  • People like you can only be described as laughable. Firstly, I was just trying to tell people that he did it in under a minute because it would probably be even more of a surprise to those that thought two minutes was an achievement for him. Secondly, it doesn't take the type of sad person that learns how to solve a Rubik's cube just so that he can try to casually boast about it on you tube, to see that the cube was completely muddled up when he started it.

  • The fact that people on the internet have a strong tendency to lie in an effort to sound better to others, doesn't help your claim that you can solve a Rubik's cube in under a minute. Finally, there is apsoloutly no point what so ever of argueing on the internet. The only reason that I said something was that I hadn't done any writing more that sentence long comments to my friends on facebook for a while.

  • People like you who try to act smart but fail miserably because you're extremely dumb. Am I supposed to feel offended when you say that I learned a Rubik's cube just to boast about it on Youtube? I learned how to do a Rubik's Cube because I wanted to. Secondly, who says he can do it under a minute to surprise people. That is the saddest and lamest escuse you can come up with? Pathetic

  • wow!!! you're great. Do you use the rubik's cube to impress girls?

  • I do, and it works.

  • I love that Will Smith can actually solve the rubix cube in under two minutes. :) He's amazing. Don't be jealous, creepy narrating man.

  • I have to say. He is no "desperate black man" in the fresh prince. If anything, the princeton guy is the desperate one... with the whole "cool" thing, this has really been taken out of context. As for pursuit of happyness... it puts it into a social and time context, because the rubik's cube had just come out and was a large part of "corporate time wasting".

I LOVE IT. Do it again sometime :) <3

  • I'm sorry but it just seems like the person narrating in the video is just jealous that Will Smith can solve the Rubik's cube, i mean enough with the hating man!

  • what episode is will smith solve the rubik cube

  • I think its the one whear will is interveiwed by a Prinsted guy

  • I liked the bowling for rubik shot at the end, very funny

  • if an idea works once then do it again..thats how hollywood works but i think this is something too small to be worried about. lets consider all the huge things stolen like almost complete stories in general. smith is a magnificant actor who got an idea from a movie he enjoys and made it better (twice)

  • I know about the interview with chris gardener and how he said the rubiks cube thing never actually happened, but I've read some stories online that point towards it actually happening although I could be mistaken

  • Wait wait wait, let me get this straight you're blaming Will Smith for the fact that this has happened? I just want to clarify that Will Smith isnt the writer or the producer to The Fresh Prince and that The Pursuit of Happiness is based on a true story so the rubiks cube scene in that movie actually happened. The fact that Will Smith played both rolls is coincidental

  • i think will smith just really really likes the rubiks cube...

  • I dont get the point of this video, is the narrator trying to say Will copies Chameleon Street too much? To me it just looks like Will likes to pay tribute

  • funny thing is every job interview i've been they neva had a rubiks cube in the room

  • this was the 80s though, when they were the new toys around. it would be like seeing a sudoku or something (even though that is quite unlikely too) ha

  • the narrator got it wrong when he said the parallels of a young black man trying to impress a white man. i saw this episode of fresh prince. Will was being himself and didn't care to impress the dean. and he got accepted for being so unique.

  • i agree i also remember that episode

  • Well the narrator is white.

  • correct.

  • Your statement is fundamentally correct, in that the "Fresh Prince" character could care less about getting admitted, which is also perhaps a tragic situation in itself.

But "unique at Princeton" do you mean black? That's for darn sure. Princeton has only a 9% black student population.

  • When I saw the pursuit of happyness I remembered have seen this scene in fresh prince. Surprised that this was from a movie even before that. I think the point of the scene is that it can be very difficult as an intelligent under privledged black man to convey your brilliance and the rubiks cube is like a window into the man's inate intellect since it requires raw intelligence to solve. (I mean it doesn't really, most people learn a sequence of moves to solve it but that's the idea anyway.)

  • you get it.

however "convey your brilliance" is just another term for "overcoming blatant racism with a party trick"

no one should have to do that. black or white.

  • @wcibbt

    Raw intelligence...

Or the booklet included when you buy a rubik's cube

  • does this work? (will u actually get a job just for solving it?)

  • Princeton already has Macky =P

  • will is the rubik's cube man! he's a great guy ,!

  • The problem with the second example is that it was based on a true story, and it actually happened. So in essence, couldn't Wendell B. Harris Jr. have heard of this miraculous story and copied it for his own fame? Considering this film came out after the events portrayed in The Pursuit of Happiness.

  • No, as I state in the video, the Rubik's scene NEVER happened in the real life events "Pursuit of Happiness" this is pure Hollywood. Chris Gardner, in an interview, denied it ever happened.

  • Comment removed

  • nice:D i think will smith encourage me to solve cube, my previous record was 32 sec

  • its not called stealing its called a "quote"

  • Quoting once is fine. Twice is pushing. Quoting twice by same actor for the same purpose is...

  • @flintmi will smith can actually do it in under a minute so its not like he is just pretending as a joke

  • @flintmi

Neither scene is "quoting". No credit was given to the original film. It's a direct ripoff, twice.

  • He probably did use the concept from the Chameleon St. movie, what's your point? Or did you stop to think that Will Smith is actually really good at Rubiks Cubes, so he decided to use it in the movies. Even if that is not the case, who cares if he copied the other movie? It's not like he took the movie and called it his own, hes a great actor.

  • Good. As long as you see that, I've made my point.

  • @flintmi you actually never made a piont you need to draw a conclusion here. what are you tryin to say with this video? im nottrying to be offensive in the least im tryign to understand where you are coming from.

  • @H3164 Will smith sucks cock at rubik's cubes, if you knew anything about cubes, you would know this.

  • @Foxen445

Well, doing it in a minute is not impressive to people who practice solving them, but to the average person who doesn't solve them, solving it at all is impressive.

  • If you say will smith I don't automatically think of the rubix cube. He may have used it twice, the big and small screen repestively. Big deal. Not too many people saw chamelon street, maybe because, the movie sucked. Will smith has mastered Movies, TV and rapping. He has made millions and its definately not for doing a rubic cube scene.

  • wow, how is that even considered a concept? Im pretty sure that has appeared in countless shows...

and rubiks arent hard when someone tells you the alogrithms... someone who can solve them without knowing those is made of fucking win.

  • If there are countless shows where someone solves a Rubik's cube to get ahead with their boss, PLEASE just send us a link to ONE of them.

  • It's a conspiracy.

  • wow who cares, go die in a fire

  • lol OMG he ripped off a rubiks cube, seriously I dont see the big deal its not ripping off plots.

  • Just solving a cube on camera. No big thing. Solving the cube to get ahead with your boss. That's a plot device.

    Smith apparently stole it. TWICE.

  • It's a good plot device for the film medium. It's a quick scene, has action, doesn't need much dialogue, nobody has to change positions, no fancy props, everyone knows and identifies with the cube, etc. It probably can't be used again w/o jumping the shark, but Smith got it in just before then.

  • I noticed this too but never really said it to anyone....Glad somebody made a video about this!

  • the guy who made this video is a tool lol

  • Sorry, but this is a really sad attempt at a video, or whatever it passes as.

At least take speech lessons if you're going to narrate.

  • YOU MAD

  • I like rubiks cubes aswell.

When is the video about me coming out?

    Check the facts.

  • wow. The fix in the first clip is completly fake. You could telll by the way it was messed up.. If u notice it was already it the T shape. lol. I can fix the Rubiks cube easily. lol

  • When Will Smith rap I did not see a rubic cube. The Pursuit of happiness is a true story. Mr Gardner has spoke about his r cube exploits. Will used the cube once in his tv show. Intresting video wrong thesis

  • Please send us a link to where Mr. Gardner spoke about how he used a Rubik's cube to further advance his career.

  • errrr. you made this video and went through all this trouble just to say Will Smith copied off of that chameleon street show? thats not event he point because it doesnt matter where he got the idea to do that in a show or movie because that chameleon guy probably didnt solve it himself. Will Smith knows how to solve a Rubik's cube so dont hate

  • "The Pursuit of Happyness" is a true story though so it wouldnt be based off "Chameleon Street".

  • yeah chamealon street and fresh prince where fake but TYSON MAO yes him came and taught will smith how to solve a rubiks cube.

  • i tot i saw cubesmith logo on the 2nd cube

  • what episode for the french prince is this

  • wtf is with the typos I make the last time

first I call Dan Brown Derren Brown, now I call the Fresh Prince the French Prince, DOH

  • it doesnt matter hardly anything you see is original and will smith is grade, he can get away with it ;) I wish he had a love affair with me . . .

  • hahah

  • honestly, so what if the idea's not original?

  • Original ideas are all we have.

  • Um, no they aren't. That's just melodramaticism. There are countless attributes that are able to define us for good or bad, originality is just one of them.

  • but theyre not YOURE ideas and the ideas of the people he stole it from arent really that bent out of shape about it or else we would have heard about it.

  • I cand do it 1:38

  • yes but will smith actually knows how to solve a rubiks cube in real life. Not a set up one.

  • which episode waz that i mean can i get a link?

  • rate and tell me what you boys think

  • you should try to learn, it's quite easy, and everyone can do it

  • its amazing how will smith can actually solv da cube n real life...

  • 2 out of 3 of those solves were fake

  • which ones, i know that at least 1 of the will smith ones is, im pretty sure its the one from pursuit of happyness.

  • fresh prince solve was fake and chamelion street was fake pursuit of happyness was real to anser ur quistion manttam

  • Whenever I watch this movie, I laugh my ass off because Will Smith uses the n00b edge switcher.

  • dr. silberman from terminator!

  • i still like both Will Smith scenes.

  • lol they always had him on the second layer done

  • hes alright slowere than me do and i learned after him

  • What's the song?

  • " been caught steeling' by janes addiction

  • who ever posted this is an idiot...

will smith did the rubiks cube in pursuit of happyness because it was actually a part of that guys life....dumbass

  • Where you listening at all?

    3:03-3:12

    "the incident never took place"

    GTFO!

  • Thank you for listening MR2323!

  • haha he sucks at it tho...lol if ur gunna do LBL do it faster..

  • It was probably one of Tyson's cubes :P

  • will does actually know how to solve it, i heard that tyson mao taught him. in the pursuit of happiness that cube sounds like it moves good :)

  • So black people can get a job from white people if they have a Rubik's cube?

  • ahhahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahaha

  • Cool. Lookie me, I have a -6.

  • Agreed. And that's the big metaphor here. I don't know why you're being commented down. That's the point, to get a job that black folks don't normally have (due to racism) movies like this show what lengths people have to go through to prove themselves. That's the brilliance of Chameleon Street. He fooled everyone over and over and was smarter than people who had 10x his education.

  • he doesn actually solve it in any of them. it doesnt matter how scrambled it is, but he seems to think it does in 'the persuit of happiness'. thats kind of gay how he uses the same idea in two features but doesnt actually even know how to do it.

  • Will Smith actually learned to solve it for Pursuit of Happyness!

He solved it LBL, but a LOT of its cut out in the movie.

  • Will Smith DOES know how to solve a Rubik's cube and he does actually solve it in the movie "The Pursuit of Happiness" but in this clip most of the scene is cut out. In the movie you can tell he is actually solving it

  • He does know how, he can solve one in 55 seconds.

  • your saying these things because you believe solving a rubix cube is hard to do...its not..if 6 year olds are doing it in less than a minute it should tell you something.

plus the darn things come with instructions nowadays

  • i dont believe solving a rubix cube is hard to do, i actually can solve a rubix cube mate so dont jump to conclusions so easily.

  • I can do them to I've seen 3 yr olds do them. I didn't know they came with instructions now when I got mine I just threw everything else away it may have come with a stand idk lol

  • actually he does if you type in will smith solves ribiks cube he does it live with the real Garner

  • holy crap thats a 10 month old comment man,

i seriously dont care any more

  • obviously enough to reply to it though...haha you're awesome

  • he should be doing one of those 6x6x6

  • They arn't out yet.
