  • If you break or chip your reed while putting on your lig, your retarded.

  • Lol, expert my ass.

  • WOW I learned alot from this video ...

    NOT she sucks

  • Lmao how she licks it

  • Mmmmm....I like the way she wets that reed there. XD OH YEAH!!!

  • for anyone who thinks she's retarded cause her ligature is backwards its not

they actually make them that way, but she is retarded for putting her ligature on first

  • What are 3 of the best alto sax reeds?

  • LOL.

  • The ligature probably IS facing the right way.

  • 0:35 that's what he said

  • i learned how to put a sax together in 2 min. here they take 2 min to put a reed in a mouthpiece

  • I hate the way she says Saxophone ARRGHHH

  • I dont have a saxophone but i have a 3 reed

  • I just got my sax two days ago and I think i know more about it than her...

  • thousands of how-to videos from leading experts EXPERTS MY ASS!!!!

  • People that think putting the ligature on first is a bad idea I can disagree with you, the bottom part of the reed is real hard and tough(no homo) so just hit the bottom of the reed on a table it wont break. and if you take like 2 mins to line up the reed and you drop the ligature on the vamp (top of reed) you would have a likley chance to break your reed

  • i watched the whole playlist... i didnt learn shit!!!!

  • I love playing the sax but this lady is so wrong about putting the reed!

  • I learn more from the comments than the vid - thank god - I learnt more in the first 10 seconds.... Thanks commenters (sic)

  • How much did they pay her for this gig? I wonder if it's too late for them to get their money back.

  • disgusting

  • Oh please, none of you commenters are any more qualified to teach than she is. It honestly does not matter if you put on the ligature first or not. If you are careful then you should be fine. Putting on the reed first will not make me sound better than if I were to put it on after the ligature, so just take a chill pill.

  • @johnBjohnBjohnB VERY good point!

  • I need a new otto linke for my sax.

  • lol fail!

  • amen cartuner25

  • I have a saxaphone reed - but not a sax :(

  • But yes, for legit music.. it's 3 1/2 on a mouthpiece like a C* is fine. Legit music sucks tho lol

  • Hey not just beginners use #2 reeds. I use #2 soft reeds that i file a little bit on a Larson mouthpiece. That's just the jazz sound I like.

  • @spiffydude16

I got a 2 and 3 1/2, I prefer 2? I like it better. Actualy depends on the piece if i want a richer sound or something like that :P

  • i can't get my alto sax to make a sound any ideas why?

  • if ur a begginer, you probably need to start off ith a lower reed #, like a 2 or 2 1/2 depending on how hard you blow.

  • Make sure you're lower lip is curled over your bottom teeth.

  • idk y i clicked on this im just wanting to play A LITTLE better than usual

  • When your a beginner like me.. you should use a 2 reed and not a 2.5 reed because the 2.5 reed is harder to start off from... me and my friend both had hard times while using a 2.5 reed and we couldnt make a sound so we both changed to a 2 reed and we can play fine now. lol

  • WTF? You don't chip the reed by putting it on before the ligature, just be careful and you should be fine, don't even listen to this "expert"

  • i bet she likes sucking on that wooden object

  • its a reed not an wooden object Estileese@

  • i just found an old yamaha alto sax made in japan in my basement and i gotta learn

  • dont put the ligature on first put the reed on make sure there is a sliver of black at the tip of the reed then put the ligature on and tighten it! DO NOT LISTEN TO HER!!!

  • Comment removed

  • It's really not a good idea to set up the mouth piece already attached 2 the neck. Tht just makes everthing more complicated 4 those beginners.

  • Softer reeds do NOT help with the higher notes, as she said they do...She is NOT an expert, I just find humor in watching these expert village people

    LOL

  • yea this lady needs to get her fat arm off that table for peep's sake! and she's so discouraging. ughh. what a fake.

  • I have yet in my life to see an expert on exper village. its a joke.

  • I know she knows nothing

  • Thanks a lot.

    Claude

  • if they are experts they are pretty retarded

  • Ok this girl is poo... I'm new to the sax and i want to learn to play it, There must be better places than here to learn can anyone help with websites?

  • mee too! im going to be playing alto next year in band.

  • me three!

  • buy the book near a music axchange or music store saying alto sax begginer -.- it teaches all the way to use a alto and scales and fingering i great at it :D

  • get "essential Elements 2000"

its 4 beginners and comes with a dvd and cd.

it'll tell u all this junk and waaaayyyyy better than this lady

  • i'm curious, what is the difference between a regular mouthpiece and a metal one? (i know no one cares, but ive played the alto sax for 3½ years)

  • difference in tone, neither is better. It just depends on preference

  • idk iether :o good question

  • aren't metal ones usually used to produce a jazz tone?

  • Yeah.. my band teacher said that.... i dont see how though...its just a different material.

  • how do you know when a reed is too old?

  • it doesn't get too old, it just wares out. You can tell when it becomes much harder to make sound with.

  • @ que2pineapple

if it's green or brown and pretty rotten you should change it.

    lmao ;)

  • I'm not sure a hole can go into another hole but we can imagine

  • 1st off is this a joke 2nd she did not wet that reed enough. If you want to learn the sax get an actual teacher the internet only goes so far.

  • thank you

  • The strength of your reed so doesnt make the player its all about the unity of the reed and the mouthpiece...More open mouthpiece softer reed.....Hell the tenor player on SNL plays a 1.5

  • i wish she would do that to MY reed!

  • sicko

  • thats nice to know...

  • jackass jake

  • wow i saw this and i reminded me of the ol days when i started out in like 4th grade

ive been playing for 15 years

i play tenor and i started on' 2's but i quickly went to 3 1/2 and invested in a metal mouth pice

and always get vendorien reeds rico's suck

kids dont listen to what they say buy 3 1/2 lol

  • i;ve been playing for like 5 years and i use a 3

SHoot they shouldnt start with a 3 1/2. Thats like giving a 8 year old kid a 12 guage shot gun. start with a 2 and then work your way up. And as for a metal mouth piece, greatest investment EVER

  • I started on a 2 1/2 and im at a 3 1/2 now so u kno x]

  • HELP PLEASE

Ok, ive got the sheet music for some saxalto music. it says Eb 1st alto on the left top... the staff has the typical treble cleff and then # or what appears to be the key of G.

BUT the notes don't follow. where am i? say, if there's a note in the C position (2nd space from the top) what is it in reality?

and why is it this transposed?

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is this right after the cleff and time signature, cus that means what notes are sharp or flat.

a # on a line means play all of those notes in the music sharp (unless told different) and the same for flats (b)

  • i think u can use the neck of the sax as a pipe.

  • You start out at a 1.5 or a 2 not a 2.5 or a 3.

  • i know when she said 3 i was like...

this is my fifth year on sax and i just started 3's

  • I bet she also recomends starting on Grade 4 music.

  • lol,

everyone knows to start on 3 1/5 reeds and play college level and higher music first day you play (even if its elementary school)

    fuck scales, lol

  • 1.5? i didn't know they had those. i started on a 2

  • I aslso started on a 2.

  • LOL

  • that is what my band teacher said on first day of band

  • SAME

  • yup same here

  • LOL! BAND IS THE SAME FOR US!

  • lol today at band i broke one before even blowwing lol i own the teacher 50 cents

  • i m a beginner , so what reed do i use and how do i put it in?

  • I believe you are supposed to watch the video before you comment :)

  • i think ur suppose to dip the reed into a glass of water

  • no you just put in your mouth and let your saliva wet it

  • Err, but you don't just lick the reed. Please, I'm not even gonna say any more, this is just brainless.

  • Bad advice on reed strength. I tell my beginners to use a 1.5 or 2. They won't be able to make a sound out of a 3! If you don't even know how to put on a reed, you're not going for tone, you're going for making some sort of sax-like sound!

Also, soak that reed, don't just lick it. If it's new, soak it in a cup of water for several minutes. Even if it's not new, you want it saturated, not just licked.

  • 1.5? I've never even seen one of those. I started out playing on threes.

But ya, the reed has to be a lot more wet than just a lick.

  • @NESJohnny dude its expertvillage there vids arnt any good

  • I soaked my Bari reeds for 2 weeks - no difference. Reason: no one told me they were fibreglass. Trust no one!

  • when you wet the read, you really need to soak it, and soak the whole thing, not just the tip. Some people when they're breaking in a new reed will even soak the reed for five minutes or more in a container of water, and others even store reeds in water.

  • um i play alto sax & no offense but this is kind of like a no-brainer...

  • doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that out

  • If you unscrew the screws, and insert them backwards, it will be forwards.

  • Done that. Now I play like Stan Getz (as he plays now). Oh, and be careful WHERE you insert the screws - it can make your eyes water.

PS. Stop reading these comments and start pracising.

  • Thank you. This was very helpful. :]

  • so you like the reed
