It was not the driver that "popped the back door".

There was a 16 year old on the bus with them that woke up just as the whole thing happened.

He woke up and rushed to the back to open the door.

He was the one that helped the kids get out.

It was all over the news.

I think the headline on one of the news sites was something like "16 year old hero".

The bridge was in the process of renovation. The DOT had not said that it was in danger of collapsing. The particular bridge did not lack funding. Frankly, it's far too soon to determine what caused the bridge collapse (personally I believe it was aged, and that the DOT, or whoever handles this stuff, didn't recognize the severity of it).

I noticed on CNN they have footage of the bridge comming down... Some security camera footage.. It also appears that 30% of yoru bridges over there are over stressed, too old and too many cars / traffic going over them. This may be a big wakeup message to the local govts to check them out before another one happens.
