  • Very inspiring and nostalgic for those of us who remember the war years- uncles in uniform, war bonds, paper and iron drives, food rationing, blackout drills and great animosity toward our enemies . One can almost see the troops march or sail within the music. This is a national treasure of remembrance esp today Dec 7

  • anyone know how to get this as a Verizon cellphone ringtone, without the hassle of subscriptions, etc?

  • let's keep it at 0 dislikes

  • Absolute classic stuff!!

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN PURCHASE THIS THEME SONG????????

    REBECCA ANNE...Thank you

  • You should know: This is the Theme not the "Theme Song" as there are no words.

  • Simple put, a GREAT Piece of music!

  • Man i LOVE watching this cause It Sure rocked my Winter and my times i was hospitalized Good thing i have this on DVD

  • My mother used to let me stay up and watch Victory at sea and see how we pounded the germans and the Japs.......

  • Enjoy your freedom? Thank a veteran.

  • I remember watching the first run TV series in the 1950s, have watched it dozens of times since on re-runs and DVD and it still gives me goose bumps.

  • @mmhansen2 Same here. Dad was a career navy officer. This series still gives me goosebumps even though I've seen it many times.

The CD of the music is great in the car.

  • They should KEEP showing ths on TV so our children know what happened and WHY

  • @n136aa I second that.

  • our band played this song. we rocked:)

  • @1xXlivelaughloveXx1 Our orchestra did the same, it was so fun!

  • I remember when it first appeared. They ran the entire series. Then, they ran the entire series again. Then, I believe, they ran the series again.

  • Peaceful and adventures...

  • Fantastic! An American musical icon.

  • Yes!

  • Thanks for posting! Brings back loads of good memories...watchin as a kid on our ol B&W TV. Loved the TV shows too, like Gallant Men, Combat, 12 o'clock High...all very cool shows! But I loved the Victory At Sea docs....they're perennial!

  • This takes me back. Also, I think it was called "The Big Picture" and in the beginning a huge aircraft carrier in rough seas takes a huge roller. Man if the ocean did that to a carrier I wonder about those poor guys in the tin cans.

  • Apart from the World At War series, this is the best TV documentary series of all time. Should be compulsory viewing for all schoolchildren!

  • I was born in 1943 when the war remained in doubt.

My father flew P-38s and C-47s in the Pacific, and the rest of my family did what they could for victory, from buying bonds to collecting for scrap drives.

This series takes you back to feel America at its best. Nobody claimed we were perfect, but compared with today...whew.

Rogers agreed to do the score and insisted against payment for it of any kind.

    He typified public sentiment.

YouTube does a service in showing us as we really were.

  • powerful series

  • Thanks for posting

  • I have recently aquired the full set of DVDs of this excellent documentary series! Top Class production. Especially the music! But the actual footage is outstanding as well! I live in the UK and I used to hurry home from my piano lessons so I could watch this series! Thanks for posting!

  • ME,TOO

  • true

  • D-Day, the 6th of June 1944.

The day American soliders and their allies delivered Europe from Nazi slavery.

  • Tuesday, June 6, 1944 was only the very beginning of that hard 11-month struggle to free Europe from the grip of Adolf Hitler and his "Nazi gangsters", to quote Winston Churchill.

Europe wasn't fully liberated from the Nazi horror until May 8, 1945, also a Tuesday.

I also have the full DVD set and fully enjoyed it, although it originally aired 12 years before I was born.

  • "The very beginning" on the Western Front.

  • It is amazing to be able to access this clip at all. It is one of the most enduring of my childhood memories! Thank you, to the poster and YouTube!

  • YOU CAN WRITE THAT AGAIN

  • I grew up watching Victory at Sea with my father, who served in the Navy in the Pacific at the end of WWII. No way was HE going to miss that show. As the "V" appeared out of the black and white sea, I would stand up and make the "V" sign with my arms.

  • One of my Jr. high school teachers was a WW2 Navy veteran. He used to get Victory at Sea on 16mm movie reels and show it to us in class...Thanks for posting.

  • Can you imagine if a teacher today tried to teach children about the heroes who died to keep this a free country? God forbid a teacher say anything patriotic in a classroom the liberals and the ACLU would have him or her terred and feathered.

  • Yes, its so sad but true

  • can you give us an example of an aclu lawyer taking a teacher to court for teaching ww2 history?

  • Love it!!!

  • What great music....
