Tammy, it looks and sounds Yummy! I don't drink alcohol, but I love it in baked goods and fudge, and the alcohol usually evaporates in the cooking. It's Just the right amount for the taste to be wonderful.
Thanks for the video. I just have to try it...........Angie
This looks sooo good!! I just got back from Gatlinburg, TN and I had some "southern" Pecan Pie that was so sweet it could put you in a diabetic coma! However, it was excellent! But after 2 bites I couldn't eat anymore. Just wondering if this was really sweet??
Yummy! I am from Louisville, KY, where we call this a Derby pie! It does not have JD, but it is awesome!this is soooooo good warm with a dollop of whipped cream.
Tammy we make this every thanksgiving without the Jack and everybody loves my "chocolate pecan pie". I didn't know that you could add bourbon and "jack" it up lol. They'll be in for a big surprise treat this year. Those Tennessee folks are like the Kentucky cooks, they put bourbon in almost everything lol Thanks!
That looks so delicious and rich! The alcohol cooks out, so no worries, as many have pointed out. Some folks seem to need to hear that at least one more time, eh?
oh brother, the questions about alcohol. peeeeeooople alc cooks off. ugh. it just seems like if you are so worried and opinionated about alcohol, you would know that heat cooks off alcohol.
in other news - this pie looks yummmmyyyyy! i am allergic to pecans, but would try this with walnuts! yums. :)
The actual alcohol evaporates when cooked you are then only left with the taste! I think it's pretty rude of some people to makes comments like "you let you're kid drink whiskey?!" seriously if you actually read a cookbook you'd know simple things like this Jeez already!
@AnimeSisterForever There is 2 tablespoons in an entire pie that serves 6-8 people. That wouldn't hurt anybody no matter how old they are. Max loved it.
@AnimeSisterForever - Alcohol evaporates at 172°F (78°C), so you wouldn't need to worry about the pie having any intoxicating effects if you included the whisky...
@jackiexgrace agree agree agree ! a whole 2 tablespoons ( if ur tablespoons are 20 ml each ) (40 mls ) in a pie cut into 16th is a very miniscule amount of alcohol that has been cooked anyway ummmm that would be 1/16th of 40 mls so that would be 2.5 mls which is 1/2 teaspoon ~ if u have 15ml tablspoons then that would be 1/16 of 30 mls thats umm calculator lol lol 1.8 mls which is not very much lol : ) if 55% alcohol content is burnt off ~ UGHH ~ a crazy little amount
I'm sure someone has already said it - but in the interest of making sure, I'll tell you too.
Alcohol, when baked emparts it's flavour, but the cooking process causes the alcohol to evaporate.
With this amount of alcohol, is miniscule anyways. But after baking? It's be non-existant.
(Now if there was a whole bottle of sherry in something, then you *might* have to worry, because larger volumes of alcohol mean longer cook times prior to full evaporation)
spray yr measurin cup b4 u put anythin sticky in so it comes out like a breeze
