  • The Mysterious Cities of Gold - Secret Passage - Valyom vs Mua remix on you tube

  • I used to love watching this as a kid in Poland, along with Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon, those were my favorites. Plot creativity certainly did decrease from that time tho, its a shame. Most shows on television for kids now are truly garbage.

  • I feel sorry for menator. He only wanted to look after the well being of his people.

  • Best cartoon ever

  • I've been in search of a cartoon that I used to watch when I was a little kid. I think it was this one, but I can't remember.

What I do remember was towards the ending there was a building, pyramid, castle or something built out of the shape of humans. It gets destroyed and they show the building falling into pieces made from those human shapes. That's really all i remember about the cartoon. Is this that cartoon?

  • @fjl05 Certainly, that's how the cartoon ends.

  • @nekoamine Thanks for the reply! They have this cartoon on netflix now. Gonna start watching it!

  • I used to eat cereal in the morning and watch this show before school. I totally forgot about it. I just found all the episodes and I will finally get to watch it in the proper order and finally see the finale.

  • This show was all Biblical and we never knew it.

  • Zia, An Incan girl named Zia... ??

  • OMG i freaking love this, i have been trying to remember it for years lol, i used to walk about singing this all the time when i was a kid,, omg those were the best days ever,, along with thundercats and defenders of the earth,

  • @Mothboy81 I to love love this show it was when Nickelodeon really had class not like today with gay Sponge bob mess

  • @STLEO1 lol thats true haha

  • Best cartoon song ever,I can play this song all day.

  • Check out the french version!

    /watch?v=L8oePo9p8rg

  • This was the greatest of all the teatime children's animated serials. It actually had a proper story arc, with a beginning and an end. And what an epic finale it was!!! I nearly wept during that final episode and I'm not afraid to admit it.

Never before or since has the cliche of riding into the sunset been so aptly used.

I actually wanted to be Esteban...

  • "Ahhhh-ah-ah-ah, Wishing for the Cities of Gold. Ahhhh-ah-ah-ah....Someday we will find the cities of Gold!"

  • If you want the season 1 French dub voice actors to keep their jobs, there are Facebook petitions available to have them do the next 3 seasons in French. And in this version, Esteban and Tao are voiced by females.

  • Three new seasons with 26 episodes each are planned. Will air in France and Quebec in around September 2012 and with an English dub with new voices, in around June 2013. Two cities of gold will be revealed in every season. But the upcoming seasons are in some trouble. The French studios have dumped the Japanese people from season 1, sacked the season 1 French dub voice actors and seem to be bungling every step in the process. but I hope that all works out and we get 3 great seasons.

  • DUDE I AM 26 AND I AM CRYING ..... AMAZING SHOW JUST AMAZING

  • Never saw the "last" show did they ever find the city of gold

  • Loved this show...could watch it very early in the morning or Sunday afternoons. Loved this show

  • zawsze chcialem byc taki jak esteban bajka mojego dziecinstwa

  • I used to watch this in arabic...I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! <3!

  • Maaan, I miss being a kid, when I see this!

  • This is a prime example of QUALITY TELEVISION for kids. I too used to get up at 5:45am so I wouldn't miss this show. Watched it from start to finish, and felt smarter for doing so.

Nick would rather feed kids mindless bullshit these days than run something this epic.

  • HOLY SMACK! Youtube is an awesome time machine!

  • I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS ON A BETAMAX WHEN I WAS A KID. :-)

  • Great show ! I'm proud it's french:)

Can't wait for the new seasons in 2011/2012 !

  • Is there a Monolith in the city of gold?

  • Never saw or heard of this show until tonight. On the other hand, I have yet to find anything on "Radio Boy" apart from one comic book I own, either.

  • funny, is it just me or does it seem to be based on alternative mythology theories, which are actually quite common nowadays? ^^

  • best show EVER!!!

  • Interezante historia en territorio Peruano ;)

    saludos desde Chile

  • I used to race home from school to watch this show! So many memories... I just found that you can watch all of these streaming on Netfilx!

  • papa gamayo

  • I was about 4 when this was broadcast in the 80's and I can only remember the tune and the odd parts of the intro bits...but the tune was that good that I used to sing it to myself and today I still remember it from back then. I had to look it up now Im 28 and I still love the intro tune. Fantastic. :)

  • I still sing the "Ahhh Ah ah ah ahhh" and I'm 41!!!

  • @BugsyBradford: I know, the intro's amazing isnt it? Its stuck with me all these years...lol

  • @BugsyBradford So am I my friend, so am I. Both singing and 41.

I'm going to South America in 5 months time for at least a year. It's taken me 25 years, but I'll finally be finding MY cities of gold.

  • Oh shit son! I remember watching this when I was a kid!

  • And it's finally on Netflix Streaming! (Well, the English version, which is the one I saw as a kid.) Woohoo!!

  • Heard the English version for the first time. It's not bad but i prefer the original version: the french one :D

Those qho don't know, listent to the french version

  • no it isnt better arabic, always best in english or japanese.....i like german too :D

  • I think this show pretty much summs up cartoons in the 80's: EPIC!!!

  • One of my all-time favorites! Love the theme song almost more than the actual show!

  • 6 people didn't have childhood or were living in the basement

  • De rég is volt eza sorozat.

  • amınoğlu esteban.

  • Loved this show along with Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea (Les Mondes Engloutis).

  • I remember when this was shown Nickelodeon when it was still a good channel.

  • /watch?v=UgbaYNEyb3g

  • Respond to this video...

  • This reminds me of Philip Scofield trying to sing the theme tune in The Broom Cupboard on BBC kids telly.

  • This and Ulysses were my favourite shows as a kid

  • This was my Favorite Show. I loved it. I watched when I was a little girl and lived in Michigian. Now I live in Kentucky, and nobody here knows what it is......Wonder why?

  • Comment removed

  • @allisonww

I watched it growing up in KY, but it came on at 5:30 in the morning here! Not too many got up that early to watch it!

  • @sassyfras77721

It came on that early in Michigan also. You are the first person that I have meet that lives in KY that knows this show. Where do you live?

  • This cartoon was amazing. Actually very educational as well, i used to watch it every morning before going to school and feel positively enlightened. Great theme song as well.

  • You can purchase the boxset from PLAY.COM £17.99 FREE postage. I have pre ordered for Christmas. This cartoon without doubt has to be the best ever. Educational and fantastic music score. Todays crap childrens tv has no imagination.

  • absolute gold, best ever 80s cartoon, theme tune and phillip schofield in the broom cupboard

  • This bring back a lot of nice memories from my childhood.

    Love it

  • just amazing & very interesting Classic show :D

  • @1000davy

    @Johnpicha

    You Start Work That...

    3-D Animation...

    Thank You...

  • what happened in the last twenty years

  • @jridge79

The cartoons got dumb, that's what happened

  • @jridge79

Cartoon technology increased and plot creativity decreased.

  • @shazam15 inverse ratio

  • @jridge79 Commercialism and consumerism, the use of popular "formats", "return on Investment", rules and regulations, political correctness, claimed educational values, MTV,...

I do like stuff like family guy and such but these days seem to lack something as creative and soulful as these kind of cartoons. I guess if the writers would have proposed this concept today, it would get shot down or get a sped up storyline with 5 times the amount of action and effects...

    I guess I'm getting old :o)

  • @cobh8crew2009 But let's not look at the past through rose-colored glasses; also there was always a lot of, well, _shit_...our minds just tend to not remember it. Those who are kids today will say similar things to you in 20 years - and not without some good reasons, there's a lot of good stuff being created today (for example where The Mysterious Cities of Gold came from...)

  • @zimolag Well fine then pass me those purple-colored glasses then...there right over there....

  • Ever since 2003, Kid's Animation TV has been going downhill FAST. And it's not going to stop. Unless a miracle happens.

  • *Sigh* This takes me back to when children's programming was actually more sophisticated than latex suits, lame gags and heapings of corn and ham. Love the 80s!

  • @cobh8crew2009 God I remember waking up at 6am to watch this before school back when Nickelodeon was good...Boy does it bring back memories :)

  • @leoguy1979 I used to watch this at 6AM on Nickelodeon as well! It's now streaming on Netflix. :)

  • @cobh8crew2009 You know why, it because for a lot of us who grew up in the 80s & 90s had very fertile Imaginations that the kids of today don't have.

  • @cobh8crew2009 you are soo right friend,i too was from this era and it was awesome,Seems kids programs got lazy and tacky since the days of TLCOG and MANY other awesome cartoons of the 80's.

  • @mrshef666 opps i meant TMCOG

  • Does anyone know for certain if the booklet, poster, postcards, map etc. is included in the slim-line dvd box-set of this cartoon series?

I'd reeeeealy like to know. Thanks!

  • God I miss that show.

  • @JeraPerthro

You shouldn't miss it for long. Next Spring the french team who coproduced that one with the japanese will finaly release a 3 seasons sequels.

Apparently this time Esteban, Tao and Zia will find a new city in China and another one in Japan.

But damn 30 years was a long wait to watch more of it ^_^

  • I FINALLY FOUND IT!! I barely remember this as a kid and I wasn't sure if this was just a tape that I had or if it was on T.V. or what. The only real memories I have of this cartoon was there was a dark skinned kid with a bowl cut and another kid that had a cool necklace because when I would watch it I would take precise bites of my Nilla Wafers to try and make it look like his necklace!haha

  • This is one of the few from my childhood that has stuck with me forever. I still cry when Pappacamayo dies, all the twists and turns that caught my breathe, and when they find The High Priest... *shakes head* I refuse to spoil it for anyone who's not seen this masterpiece. Seriously, our generation truly had the best cartoons.

  • WOW!!! Thank you!!!

I totally forgot about this show, and I tried for so may years to find out what it was.

Nobody knew ANYTHING about it, and now here it is before my very eyes.

    Nostalgia overload!!!!!

  • I almost cried watching this again...

  • @cobh8crew2009 Well it's plain obvious a lot less time, money and effort is put into modern cartoons.

  • Now THIS is a quality anime. You don't see them made like this anymore, and it's a shame. Now all you find are spike haired, bull headed males clenching their first claiming they fight to dull their emotional pain...oh yeah, they're that tough...bleh...

  • @ZelgadX

Damn straight! That or gender-unspecific losers asking who they are and why they exist. 僕は誰だ?僕はなぜ僕として。。。 僕は武器じゃない。。。

Makes me sick. Anime has died my friend.

  • @ZelgadX Indeed! I much prefer a 'Child of the Sun' that has problems with heights ;)

  • @LadyAryun the kid was afraid of heigts. i saw this on norwegian tv, and i remember that in one episode, the kid was climbing in the mast on the boat. he refuses to open the eyes. it is over 20 years ago i saw this episode, so i don`t rememer all.

  • @bjakk333 Oh in the first episode, the people in Barcelona hoist him up on this little pole and don't understand why he's freaking out. Poor Esteban.

  • ohhhh

  • @cobh8crew2009 Made by true creators with care for their work

  • did they ever find the city of gold???

  • @KingRalf00 Yes, they did find the city of gold.

  • Best. Box-set. Purchase. EVER. Period.

  • I used to watch this show too! I forgot about it entirely until i heard that theme song! I want more now!

  • Greatest anime ever.

Fuck you if you disagree. (yeah, thumbs are overrated, good old fuck you i tell ya)

  • I knew it in French and I watched it in Belgium. Les Mystérieuses Cités D'or. I live in NY permanently. My favorite cartoon. Noam sings the song in English and French. Children of the Sun! It's an AMerican, French, Japanese production by Shuki Levy and some other producer!

  • I never would've guessed that this is a japaneese anime.

  • @qwuezalothus half french half japanese 2 be exact

  • My friend told me there was a toy of the Golden Condor! I've searched and never found it.. He was a big fat liar.. it was 23 years ago and it still gets me! Somebody tell me he was lying!

  • It's Peru machu picchu!!!

  • This animation is a Japanese/French collaboration(actually the French company joined after ep.7) and the animation itself was all done by Japanese anime studio Sutudio Pierrot (not done by French campany DIC). So the opining animation was made to fit the Japanese version but I like the French version of music.

  • i loved this so much

  • we can say thank you to two french composer Shuki Levy and Haim Saban and is a cartoon of the french company DIC

    not American

  • @midnitegun watch the full intro for ulysses 31 and then this one seems about 5 seconds, lol

  • THANK YOU FOR DOWNLOADING THIS SONG IT BRINGS BACK CHILDHOOD MEMERIES

    THANK YOU

  • *All New "The Mysterious Cities Of Gold" 3-D

    Coming Soon...

  • @cobh8crew2009 Yes they were!

  • I used to get up at 6am just to watch this on Nickelodeon back when it was good.

  • @leoguy1979 I did the same thing as a kid! Wow!

  • Holy crap I remember this!!! Holy crap I'm old!!!!

  • As child, I only knew the music. Now that I'm 17, i have finally decided to watch this show. Great stuff! Amazing music, story, characters and graphics! Too bad I missed that!

It is one of the only cartoons I like watching at my age, even though it does not remind me any childhood memory (apart from the main theme).

  • just the narration in the intro is enough to spark a crazy amount of imagination... i'm almost afraid to watch the show again in the fear that it'll be a letdown compared to that.

  • As an adult I can scarcley believe that a production company put the miraculous work in to bring this wonderful tale to me as a child. It affected every aspect of my personality to this day, and for that, I am eternally greatful.

  • if your watching this and you were born in the year of the monkey 1980 .what happened to you people you all got fat and married .....we used to climb trees and play football now you work all days and watch tv eating beans..........

  • One of The Best Cartoons Ever!!!! I used to love this show, but it would come on when school was just finishing. I'd only get to see like half an episode. Still I always remembered it. Lucky for me they have it on DVD now. I'm currently watching it and savoring every moment. = )

  • Please someone tell me - something I never found out when I was a child? I used to watch with dedication - but I didn't get to find out - what did happen in the end? Did they succeed?

  • @myrnaloysboy yupp they found the cities of gold i wont tell you the rest . you should just watch it .theres a torrent of the whole series up online and has been for a few years now download it and watch it . your never to old for cartoons

  • This is one kids TV show that has aged very well. It really showed up a lot of garbage back then.

  • my ma wanted me to find this she says she remembers it from nickelodeon from back in the day it reminds me of the old school anime scene seems pretty kool

  • I used to watch this show every morning before I had to go to kindergarten.

  • i own (rainbow) (80 days around the world) and (super ted) all on dvd boxset and many of the turtles and original transformers and many other 1980's classics from my time.

  • please please please whare can i get my hands on the dvd boxset...............i must have it as its always been my childhood fave cartoon of all time!

  • Wow, this brings back memories. I remember this came on Nick at around 5am when I watched it.

  • I went and lived in Cusco, the ancient Incan capital in the Andes, for two months last year and I was reliving this cartoon and this song everyday. The culture and the history of the Incas, the Spanish invaders and the stories of the gold are still in the Andes to be lived and breathed. Everyone should have the experience of Peru and the culture of the Incas.

  • @n4979338 I did the exact same thing, except I lived there for over a year on and off. Soley because of the mysterious cities of gold.

I tried to explain it once to the guy that dresses up in the alley way off plaza de armas... He just thought I was a crazy gringo.

  • @mu101xer Makes perfect sense to me! There is no greater dream than to go in search of the mysterious cities of gold.

  • France and Japan "co-production" is too much representation. Because France is not really involved in making most. They took part in the middle of the story (from episode 7.) The original story of Odile Scott "Seven Cities of Gold," but the animation is only borrowed from the original geographical and historical background and main characters. Many are Japanese creators imaginary.

  • I've watched all 40 (or was it 39?) episodes. This is a truly inspired work!

  • Remember everyone. It's made in Japan

  • @zousandazou false : it's french too :)

He's far the time where animated were clever.

  • @zousandazou

Yes and no... written and conceived in France, and realised in Japan, because it costed less. :) It's made by Jean Chalopin, who made many other success like Ulysse 31, Inspector Gadget, Jayce and the Wheeled warriros, The Care Bears, and many many others (look at his wiki page)

  • damn i miss watching this with my daughter and hearing her sing this song this cartoon isso classic the monkey man lol i miss u juliana rose ill see u in september

  • Wooooow!!! I watched this religiously! :)

  • So funny that I found this video. The other day the song popped into my head. I remember watching this as a kid.

  • 0.41basically IS "WELCOME to the crucible, for day SEVEN of the Embassy World Snooker Championship"

  • I remember as a kid i used to rush home from school to watch this.Always used to sing a long the music. They made cartoons in those days, not anymore. This along with Dungeons and Dragons, Thundercats, He Man, Defenders of the Earth etc were also ones I used to watch.Classics in my opinion. Good old days hey.

  • Loved this show as a kid. I wish Nickelodeon would go back to the way they used to be back in the early eighties. I want my chihldren to see these shows too!!

  • i loved this show where can i find it on dvd

  • @nibelung34343 If you live in the UK, or can import, it was released as a full boxset around here a few years back. ^^

  • I'm from Portugal and I watched the French version of these cartoons back in the 80's... It's funny to hear the English version!!!! These cartoons were simply amazing, much better than the ones imposed on children now... Me and millions more were luky to have grown with such quality cartoons as these... ;-)

  • Holy crap! This at 5:30 then Mr. Wizard on at 6 am just before I had to catch the bus. All on Nickelodeon. Wow! Wonder where you can't do that on television is?

  • Thanks for the upload! Great quality!

  • eveytime I watched the opening song itd reminds me of back went I was in the 5th grade and used to to run home to watch this cartoon during the summer of 1985... good time.. what dont they dont make cartoons like this any more !!!!!!!!

  • Esteban!!
