  • look at how he grips the ball like its a tennis ball

  • dunks from this era look 1000000% better then today's dunks

  • that up and under against the Lakers is the greatest shot in the history of the league !!!! followed a close second by Birds follow up left hander against Houston.......respect !

  • 0:59 holy shit! he floats.

  • It has been rumoured, that in one Dr. J's first games with the Nets (of the ABA, and an away game), he actually (and on a run, of course) jumped from the head of the free throw circle to dunk the ball. After the game, a reporter, noting the Doctor precociousness, asked him: "Dr.J: How did you possibly do that?"... A little surprised, the Dr. stared at him for 10 seconds... then said "Hey man, there are times when I get so pumped [during a game] I'd like to think I will dunk from half-court."

  • Good video, bad "music"

  • witch pixel is Dr J

  • Want to make this video better? Turn the volume all the way down. Open another tab. Go to youtube. Search James Brown Payback. Play both videos at the same time. Enjoy much better.

  • A fantastic vido and a great opening photo, but an absolutely stupid song.

  • 2:11 Can't nobody this better

  • This is the man who started it all....not jordan.....THE ORIGINAL! jumped from free throw line at a time when people were not even dunking...dunked on the best...DAMN I MISS HIM! CLASS!

  • @rangersct Elgin Baylor and Connie Hawkins started IT..."J" just perfected it ! Find some old footage of those guys and you'll see.

  • @taliesen1953 gots to agree wit u on that 1

  • got dick

  • pause at 2:15.... LONG ARMS

  • Comment removed

  • why did he get rid of the afro :O

  • The shot at the 2:15 mark is the greatest shot ever made during a NBA game, period!

  • everything is easy when you have big hands

  • Thank you Steve Jobs, for putting a mute button on my computer.

  • Got Dick?

  • Hahaha the intro! Wft?! xD

  • @McDogginified : I completely agree with you. The amount of talent that classic R&B groups such as 'Bloodstone' had dwarfs this petty & vulgar garbage. It would have made a lot more sense to put a classic soul track on these snapshots of the great Dr. J. Nothing can compare to the old school classics when it comes to musicianship (Of course I'm referring about this particular genre of music.)

  • @McDogginified true but at least have some music that requires some degree of talent to make

  • If I was building a Dream Team I need a Doctor before anybody!!!

  • This video is why i get so mad at ESPN TNT and others when they talk about Jordan and never EVER Say this MANS NAME. He was destroying teams before people knew a Jordan existed..

Who will be the next Jordan who will be the next Magic. Did you people forgot about Dr. j???? Jordan was the 90s version of Dr. J..... !!!!!! So disrespectful .

  • @grownman455 My cousin who lived back then and my great uncle who is only in his 64 (my mom gave birth to me when she was a teen) told me about dr.j they said when they saw him they thought there would never be another him until they saw Jordan and said he was like Dr.J or probably even better. I actually like contact sports more but I only know about the new school like Wade and James.

  • @sonofaballer96 Yea that was always what people talked about could Jordan beaten Dr. J. Retired while I was still a little kid but I have watch his old games and he was a beast. I think would of been unstoppable in today's NBA. Not maybe people want to say it Lebron James is the next level once he gets his head together ..

  • watch with the volume off due to crappy 'music'

  • the afro ninja of basketball

  • that looks like Denzel Washington

  • @DABOMB1231000 omg, I thought it was just me. He totally does.

  • HOUSE CAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!!

  • To get all the highlights of Julius Erving you'll need a full week and Im not even joking.

  • He kinda looks like Jimi Hendrix, doesn't he?

  • Fuck You Physics! 0:39

  • Doc was the man. Whats the song at 1:08?

  • nets had thee dopest jerseys

  • I bet his wallet says ¨bad motherfucker¨on it...

  • The "Doctor" was the REAL DEAL!!!! I have many great memories watching him play! My favorite player of All-Time

  • I cannot decide if it was his hands or afro that made him amazing.

  • Dr. J sold out when he cut his afro. I wonder if a suit and tie guy made him do it.

  • I was trying to think of a '70s pro basketball "All Afro" team. Dr. J, Artis Gilmore and Darnell Hillman are the first three to come to mind. Ben Wallace has the best modern NBA afro.

  • @Jefgg Rich Jones Net/Spur

  • Dr. J's afro should have been declared a national monument and he should have been forbidden from getting it cut.

  • 0:01 got DICK?

  • loose ball going towards the 6er basket Dr J racing Charles Dudley & Charles Johnson GSW in Oakland Dr runs past the ball reaches back picks it up one handed off the bounce slams it with out a dribble . from just below the FT line. Most amazing play that only 14thousand GSW fans saw. It was his first game as a Sixer vs the Barry lead GSW. Barry vs Doc were ultimate battles they each enjoyed success against ea other

  • denzel washington

  • 2:15 was ugly

  • IM GLAD I GOT 2 SEE THE MOST EXPLOSIVE PLAYER IN THE WORLD PLAY FOR MY TOWN MANY GREAT GAMES I ATTENDED

  • @melvin1123 NO disrespect Melvin. But damn u old

  • @mj4tru THATS RIGHT 43 YEARS WISE YOUNG BOY

  • @mj4tru so is your mother lol

  • Dr J was something special.

  • Before there was AIR, there was definitely HAIR!

  • When I think of basketball in that era it was Dr J with the leaping as Afro!! He was the MJ during that time and was/is a class act during and after his time in the NBA!

  • whos that chick??

  • His first rookie year in the ABA was 1970-71 season. He joined the team shortly after the Squires drafted him in '71. They had Charlie Scott, The Ice-Man, and Dr J on the same team! Dr J did not play much that year. There were less than 15 games left when the Doc joined that team as the ABA did not have rules against it. That is also why he was eligible for Rookie of the Year in the 1971-72 season. The Doc was John Wall fast his first 2 years...unreal and I saw it in person up close!

  • I was a huge Colonels fan!! I saw the Doc in person, 2nd/3rd row a lot of times! He was so fast! especially his 2 ABA rookie years. By the time he hit the NBA he didn't jump as high and lost a tad of his speed. In basketball experience is just as important as athletic ability. (who can argue that 25 yr old MJ was a better athlete than at 30? but who can argue a 30 yr old MJ was a greater threat to win a championship than 25 yr old MJ)

  • just bought his jersey 2day

  • got dick o.O

  • the NBA's Denzel Washington

  • He pretty much dunked on everybody.

  • you cant stop him, he will find a way to the hoop no matter what you throw at him

  • Sorry, young bloods... Julius ErvIng is from MY time... not yours. So try and put the music that best suits this time period.

  • His arms move sooo smooth i can't tell right from left.

  • JULIUS ERVING THE #1 KING OF SLAM DUNK

  • The Doctor was the greatest. So why tarnish his image with that sound track of farting buffalo and geese or whatever it was.

  • poetry in motion. that cliff hanging one handed palm dunk... wow...

thank you for replaying the underhand reverse three times, it never gets old.

and i'm not even from philly.

  • I love the beginning

  • @amtcle95 me too

  • BIG ASS HANDS

  • @itsmecarl25 vince carters hands are 9.5 inches from base of palm to end of middle finger,Dr,J's were 11 inches. That's the size of some baseball gloves!

  • The music blows. Doc doesn't deserve crappy gansta. HE would tell you so.

  • Great dr J but poor and bad music, listen, whenever you do a video of whoever or whatever from other decade or era, put music from that period, it will create the proper atmosphere for the whole video. Its like a medieval film with contemporary music, no sense at all.

  • Davieee Fl in here....check local hitz

  • Stupid intro, shitty song

  • 0:55 no one is safe from the crossover, not even the referee.

  • great intro, very classy

  • When i think Basketball in the 70's... I think of this man!

  • remove this bullshit, the disgusting pic

  • Had to watch the vid with the sound muted. Dr J was and still is a class act -- not trashy like the sound with this video..

  • dam his jump shot is SMOOTH!

  • Denzel Washington could play as him in a biography movie

  • @estaco94 I think the same.

  • @estaco94 Denzel could play the retired Dr J. Denzel's 56 years old!

  • @farneyblakeley if u watch he got game he almost looks exactly like him

  • What a fucking afro.

  • The Jimi Hendrix of basketball.

  • magic arms and hands

  • wats this song called ??

  • most rediculous hands ever

  • i got plenty of dick baby, come to daddy

  • I love how the defender tries to defend from behind twice and gets burned twice @ 1:12

  • thumbs up for afros back to the NBA!

  • @tann2j Dr. J could kill you off a thumb up.

  • damn i remember this song Drag-on wtf happend 2 him

  • dr j, ray allen aka (jesus) and denzel washington look like they could be related!

  • dont understand what the pretty girl with low self-esteem had to do with anything

  • anyone hear of that boingvert jump program??? it's supposed to be crazy

  • This is a LEGEND!

  • 1:58 kareem how the fuck did he tht shit?

  • look at him get right back on defense, no celebrations. I guess defense HAS actually existed in the NBA at one point

  • Denzel should play him in a bio pic

  • @Stefan932 Denzel is 56 years old. DJ is only 5 years older than him. Would be a shit biopic with a 56 year old actor playing the part of the best athlete of the era.

  • @baleirinha or you could look up nate robinson

  • @baleirinha you should really stop

  • @baleirinha fuck iu

  • I met him. He actually came 2 my teams practices. His son played for my team.

  • NBA Jam NEEDS to add Dr J to their games!

  • Dr. J was too gangsta

  • Air Magic!!!

  • The start of this video was a bit disturbing and we could do without that ridiculous, nasty rap "music". But there is no denying the sheer grace and beauty of the Doctor!

  • The greatest moves in NBA history....hands down!

  • Dr J is a dapper dresser, these days he wears sharp suits, fancy boots and a cowboy hat.....

  • Just the way Kobe has always been compared to Jordan, Jordan was always compared to the Dr.

This man changed basketball forever and inspired generation after he finally hung his sneakers.

  • iverson is nothing compare ith julius and jordan

  • A guy calls himself "DRAG-ON"...Yeah, it drags on alright...What a chump.

  • u r an idiot! Iverson is a criminal!

Julius is a Roll Model. and the best small forward ever!

  • @russyruss Iverson would break Julius Erving's ankles just like he did to Jordan

  • u r an idiot! Iverson is a criminal!

    Julius is a Legend!

  • Dr. J is a legend and no disrespect to this man but Allen Iverson is the greatest sixer of all time

  • @eagleboy201 YOU ARE THE QUINTESSENCE OF IGNORANCE...Next you'll be telling us that the "music" playing is great too!

Iverson isn't even worthy enough to carry Dr. J's shoe-bag.

  • @djfakt Dr. J already admited Iverson is the greatest sixer in a interview

  • @eagleboy201 I doubt it, and had the opportunity to see most of them. Julius was being polite when he said that. Iverson was a very good player, but also a selfish one, who hurt his team more than he helped them.

There are very few elite players, and Dr. J was one of them.

  • @eagleboy201 Iverson is nothing compared to Dr. J. He was just being humble, but that is a bad move because fanboys like you will use it against him.

  • @sysweed no he was just being real! he even let Iverson wear a #6 sixer jersey in a all star game before

  • @eagleboy201 iverson compared to dr j are you serious not even on the same level

  • @eagleboy201 dude like imagine Dr.J saying "I am the best human that ever wore the sixers jersey"... it would sound wrong, people will think he's selfish-loves the fame, and stuff and people will start hating him... if iverson was interviewed he would have said that Dr.J was the greatest sixer. so shush up Dr.j compared to iverson is like an elephant compared to an ant

  • THE DR J IS MY FAVORYTE PLAYER IN NBA JAM 2010

  • one of the best players ever

  • one of the best players ever!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome video!! The music SUCKS!!! Who listens to this shit?!!

  • 0:50 no player in the league today can do that

  • @haphaestusmm dunk?

  • @bigfrotes9912 no the part right before that where somehow controls the ball one handed, a few players dunk like that regularly

  • Theres rare of greats dunks rigth now because theres a thing like "Big Mac" and "McDonalds"

  • The man!!!

  • Dr. brought the FUNK flight to the NBA! NBA will never be the same, again! LEGEND!

  • 2:23 - 2:25 is the best !!

  • Ignorant ass music!

  • best hands ever. michael was a better player but you could punch this guy in the hand and he wouldn't let go of the ball

  • As a 76ers fan, I enjoyed seeing the Doc doing his thing in this video.

  • Dr was the first generation of human fly.

  • This rap with the cuss words in it just seems so wrong in this Dr. J video. I'm sure Dr. J wouldn't want all this cussing in a rap that's supposed to represent his video. Dr. J was never for all of that, he was a man with class, and this rap track goes against him being portrayed as a class act.

  • 2:01 the defenders are just helpless to the quickness and power.

  • very begining is very unnecissary

  • @Michael117american I agree, puts bad taste to the legendary Dr.J video.

  • @Michael117american I don't know man .. I got a boner when I saw that!!

  • @Michael117american u gay ?

  • @Michael117american nothin personal right its kool and all but that was kinda gay

  • has this dude won a championship?

  • @binosho yes he won one championship in 82-83 against Lakers

  • @SugarRay0389 ok,thanks.he's a great player anyway

  • @binosho 3. 2 in the ABA with the Nets, and 1 as a Sixer

  • @mana2432 ok thx

  • dis foo looks like denzel washington from "he got game" haha

  • Another one-of-the-best (but underrated) layups of all-time 0:40

And the dunk immediately after is one of the greatest classics ever - Two steps from the 3 line (base line almost), crowd already cheering before the outcome, the cradle, the leap, the windmill, he was the show of that era!

  • i think ur a lil too horny man

  • gladiator <3

  • mike jordan and dr. J....best hands ever!!!

  • ball be lookin like an orange in Dr. j's hands, that guy had massive hands, there are 0 i mean 0 guards before or after him that could hold the ball like him. that 2 steps with the ball in one hand enabled him to score at will inside.

  • @wesleygman5 I shook his hand in 1988 at VA Tech and my hand was the size of a baby's hand in his!!

  • ø„¸¸„ø¤º°¨¸„ø¤º°¨
