local pc/ps shop in my town was illegaly installing modchips back than in 99 for few bucks.mine was there modified too and guess what??year later COPS!:D showed up in my house to take my PS.lucky for me it was broken couldn´t load a damn game so it was not a big deal to give them.motherfuckers had a list from shop with all the customers names.poor kids ahahahaha

@dime363 The early models could play any game but would play some games in black/white for e.g. a PAL model would play NTSC in black and white. Check on wikipedia.

help me please! in the burnt games i have they don't work fine and to games happen these things:

rescue shot:it takes about 2 hours to load.the music is gone

bust a move 4:some sounds are missing and after finished a round it freezes for about 15 seconds and then it works.

pacman world: it lags on cutscenes and sometimes while inn cutscene it freezes.

Also (just a note) there are only verry few games the old early none stealth chips cant play, the rest are fine and require no bypass codes i just happen to own both hardmod and softmod only found it out later after trying dino crisis.

I got advice for people who find chiiping their ps1 hard and thats buying a (game hunter) device, it connects to the (I/O PORT) on the back of the ps1 and allows you play copied games and also use gameshark codes.

I have an old ps1 chip that isnt stealth so i have to use the game hunter gameshark bypass codes for specific games e.g Dino Crisis.

dude. every single square peace on pcb is not a capacitor.. :D

if there is Lxx next to it, it's an inductor.. (first cap mistake) if there is FBxx - its just an zero resistance bridge (second cap mistake) (xx stands for number)

what model do you have? I know you said its an SCPH7XXX, and i can see its one of the fat ones, is it the one with or without the serial port? I'm thinkin about attempting to make my own modchip, but i cant find any plans anywhere to make them. I'm sure i can make it and get the parts from radio shack. I have both the fat ones with and without the serial port, but the one i have without the serial port likes to corrupt memory cards lol. I bought a BreakerPro - do NOT BUY ONE...

My PSX is modded, bought it off a neighbour years ago. It has a colour mod for PAL-60, for NTSC games, and I want to reverse it so I get NTSC output instead.

If I can just cut that bastard (the heat shield) off with scissors, and leave it off for good, then I will be a happy camper indeed.

@sonic4sale Mine came with the wire. But you can use 25-30 gauge wire for the connection, mine was 30 gauge.

Do you know how to patch psx games?? many games are protected? Like crash bash i try to burn it and it wont work..

@noobest200 I havent run into any issues on the playstatoin with burnt games. What kind of mod chip are you using?  How are you burning them? Are you using torrents, or the real disks to burn? Torrents are usually ecm'ed (a speical kind of compression). You may have to find the the "unecm'er" to burn to a disk that will play. Burning real disks, I just make an ISO using MagicISO then use Nero to burn the ISO image.

@RPGJAR yes you can... you just burn the iso/ bin cue files with something like nero or image burn... some files do require a little tweeking to get to work though... this comes in handy when you have the original disk but its scratched and wont play anymore... as long as you own the disc still its legal...
