  • So cool seeing all of this . I went to jamaica in 1991 with my (then) Jamaican husband....It was a real eye opener for a country girl from Australia

  • am proud to be a jamaican. this is the land of my birth love it

  • i'm not jamaican but this is interesting...i was thinking about nigeria when i saw this

  • penny are u mad cuz i was exactly right. nobody is attacking america just pointing out facts u idiot

  • Why do peoplle think it's always Americans making nasty comments? Most of the times when I check the channels, its either canadian or english and even places like iraq or some dirt poor eastern european country, andthen sometimes you cant tell if it's an american because so many people are immigrants. Everybody is just ready to attack America.

  • Thank you America for good movies and music. America has no history, no culture, 1/4 of ur people are fat slobs and what's ur national dish u savages??? Cheeseburger with fries. lol. Fuck that place. LMFAO the avg american is under educated, under paid, and over patriotic lol. What are u proud of??? The meth labs in the midwest or the racists who hate their president because he is mixed?lol Or maybe ur proud of the giant new jail just built that u pass on the way to ur dead end job everyday?lol

  • Also since places like america are so gr8. Why don't u break ur leg and go to the hospital? Tell me how much that costs!!lol or do u have kids? When they go to college and graduate I bet they'll be paying off college loans for the rest of their life. Fuck outtta here. All America has is alot of prisons, alot of guns, pretty highways and a majority racist and ignorant population. Oh yeah and everywhere in the world almost has faster trains than USA.lol

  • Haters

  • For the haters on here listen, this is downtown the more ghetto and older side of Kingston. Most of Kingston rivals any major world city. Secondly, for a predominanty black country Jamaica is extremely developed. Go and you will be shocked. Thirdly what Does Detroit look like? Lets try Newark, NJ or Gary Indiana? These are American cities. U want to see a piece of shit visiti every single major US city.

  • WOW THIS IS EXACTLY LIKE GEORGETOWN GUYANA!

  • jesus third world

  • That's because every, and I emphasize EVERY pre-dominantly black nation is 3rd world. South Africa is the only exception in terms of infrastructure and technology and this is because white Afrikaaners and Euros established the modern constructs of that society. In every nation where the black population increases, the level of destitution runs nearly parallel. Nobody can refute this fact and one has only to look at numerous world examples for proof.

  • That place looks like a cesspool.

  • whats the first song

  • I have never been to Jamaica! Not that I couldn't go. Other family members have gone to Kingston before! My sister has taken trips there to visit her Jamaican in-laws, but she secretly goes to eat the delicious jamaican food! It's the truth. They will spend $300 a night at a good hotel there for a week so that they can be catered to and to eat the delicious meals. Thanks for the video! I really enjoyed it!

  • Hmm..doesn't look so bad to me. Peaceful. Looks like any given city in southern Florida

  • Jamaica is no worse than mexico, columbia or brazil. You're hispanic, I'm guessing you're mexican, think about the conditions in mexico. I'm sure I don't need to tell you about that.

  • @joserrgn hope you came back alive

  • @joserrgn wish you would come back on here and tell us of your experience there

  • When I went to jamaica, my tour rep adviced me not to go to kingston. I thought I got a good insight what it is like by watching these videos. I like the old buildings and how many old buildings remain. I did do a tour of Falmouth. Thanks for posting it.

  • this not a representative of all of Kingston, most parts are modern, and sophisticated. New Kingston is a good example. But it's a shame that they allowed the criminal elements to take over downtown, while they fled uptown. Most cities have a great downtown area

  • I like downtown Kingston. I have no problem with it. My friend sells down there and many people from the coutry and all over sell in the market. Like everywhere else in the world you have to be careful when you go into town but love the place.

  • what a dump!

  • downtown is kingston is an eyesore

  • Jamaica still look sweet! Some people always a try mek we look the worst.

  • YO! DE PLACE LOOKING REAL FUCKED UP

  • When are they going to begin to restore downtown. I hear there is a major restoration project planned.

  • LOL those taxi man drive so crazy...

  • COOL HISTORY

  • The main part of the clip was filmed last year, 2007. I inserted an excerpt from the 1962 movie, Dr No (the first real Bond movie), just to contrast with how the area looks now.

I didn't imagine people would think the whole clip was from 1962!

  • There is no way this is 1962...come on! 1962 would look older no doubt. one love man!

  • mi use to idle inna di park a mornin time before mi go school or scul school. bomboclaat a long time mi noh si mi place

  • lol... and a wha dat de gal did have on wen de vid start and said Kingston 1962...

  • That a downtown kingston dats why it look so, New kingston look good, but nice vid about down de so mii cant tell last mii use to go a tha market down so.... lol... u radio inna de car kinda loud... • 'smile'

  • lawd dis mek me home sick is sure ya sure dis shoot las month it look ol eh

  • Is jus you an me look ol! Yes, I shot it four months ago.

  • Cool video but your history has errors. The first ska tracks were cut at Federal Studios (Foreshore Rd. now Marcus Garvey Dr.) which is now the premises of Tuff Gong.

Coxson Dodd opened Studio One on Brentford Road circa 1964, but Duke Reid did not open Treasure Isle studios (No. 33 Bond St.) until 1966.

  • I wrote that Duke Reid recorded SOME of the first ska tracks. True enough -- he was a pioneer, together with Coxsone and Prince Buster.

In part III of this little drive downtown, I visit Studio One and get a guided tour of the soon-to-be-opened (but not yet built!) museum dedicated to Coxsone. His wife is still running the place.

I'll try to edit the clip soon and upload it.

    Thanks for your interest.
