Oh god, I miss this. Back then is when people still cared about games. Now every day it's "omg activision and sega shit out 3 games this week go buy them all right now".
Nintendo really knew how to do the promotionals. While they were on VHS... while Sony was helping N' with the CDNES.... then Playstation, and PS Mag, shipping demo CDs. RIP Nintendo. All the best ideas, stolen.
There is so much 90's in this video...delicious delicious 90's....*nostalgia* I remember getting this in the mail, came in a jungle green box with the leaves and all that all over it. Popped this in my VCR and was just like "HOLY COW GAMES WILL NEVER LOOK BETTER THAN THIS!" Well, they may look better...but they certainly have gotten a lot less fun on average. Thanks for posting this.
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great game series such as Donkey Kong Country. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
Beta elements: 2.44 donkey can't kill enemy with jump, actualy he can in final versions. 8.09, blue balloon different sound. 8.25, when level start, there are some debug numbers on the right. 8.50, i don't know if im right, but the music loops in this point, maybe there weren't use the same music as final, or it's edited in the video. 9.52, WRF 655 BANNANAS??? I Guess the game wasn't so grateful with free lives. I don't remember the game very much, there been 17 years, thumbs up please
I remember watching this promo on tv before the game came out! I think I must have been 9 years old. This is a fun game. I used to rent it from the video store a lot when I was a kid, and I just recently bought a used copy at a flea market. I was playing it today, and it brings back memories. So much fun. :)
man this promo brings me back such great memories of the golden age of games in the 90s and back when rare actully made really really good games now there nothing :(
I got one of these videos in the mail in September of '94. Donkey Kong Country went to the top of my Christmas List immediately. My Mom latter told me that they had to do a lot of looking around to find a copy.
I remember getting this tape in the mail, and wanted to go down to Redmond and go on a tour. We were so hyped when the testers were sitting around the table talking about how you had to get it!!!! Kids nag your parents every day until you get it! They didn't need much convincing because they were blown away by the video too.
@chupchupchupnanny I too remember getting this video in the mail, and shortly after watching having mom drive me to blockbuster to rent it. ahhh the good ole days...
I got it too! I was probably like 12 or something. I never got to play the game till like a year later, but I remembered all the little secrets they told you in this video
This is a pretty crappy video because they're too cheap to go to Rare and actually talk to the developers, they just talk to some QA guys who happen to be in Nintendo's Redmond office.
I am going to bitch about Rare some more..In 2007, Tim and Chris Stamper, the creative force behind Rare, left the company. Thus Rare isn't really Rare any more. Thus, fucking greedy moneygrubbing american company Microsoft pretty much ruined the original Rare.
It doesn't even make sense bitching about Rare anymore. The company is not the same, most of it's staff is gone and we'll probably never play a game with their style and humor again. Such a shame.
@markusmachadoReturns Look to the timesplitters series. The developers of the series are made up of people who left Rare and were involved in making Perfect Dark and Goldeneye.
@SOUTHWESTENZ Well I found out its my cousins friend, and he attended my school (where i go now!) his name is Neil Betteridge! I make games on Game Maker Pro, so I might ask my cousin to contact him for ideas! Sorry about the misleading comment. I'll delete it. (That was about 2 minutes before I found out, and I was so excited i put he was my cousin)
It's kinda funny knowing that the original game came out on Nov. 21, and the Wii re-make of it is coming out the same day, for the 16th year anniversary of it's release.
I totally remember getting this video in the mail back in the day. I had seen previews of DKC in magazines and I thought it looked alright, but this video TOTALLY sold me on the game and got me hyped like no game ever had before. Nintendo definitely succeeded.
The yanks took all credit for this game, even though it was designed and written by English programmers (rareware anyone?). All the yanks did was test it !!
I am pretty sure this was the promo video that all Nintendo Power subs received as a free gift prior to the release of the game. I remember getting one and I think its still in my moms basement.
I'm so glad I never watched this back then and other media stuff like it and was able to enjoy the "magic' of the game alone without any outside influence.

@wezite1983 im not going to put myself at the level of a brit...considering how low it is all i have to say is remember the american revolution? nuff said
@bounty2444 Shut the fuck up you nob head!!! Stop talking shit about GREAT Britain you fucking retard. You talk as if you won that war yourself. Your shitty country couldent even win a war against the gooks Nuff said ya dick head.

@bounty2444 u guys cant even stop one man named osama binladden or however the hell you spell his name i, bet your a 350 lbs sitting eating burger king and filling a divorce slip
@wezite1983 The game was developed in the UK, but published in the US. The US team is responsible for all the localization, marketing, etc., which would explain this video. The only thing they are taking credit for is pushing out this promotional video so N. Americans would be more inclined to purchase it.
@dragonheartman Even then his point about being in the country is a bit silly, the area were rareware is, is "Birmingham, England". with 1mil population, officially its a city.
@WiiFolderJosh I haven't even played this, but I don't see how ANYTHING could be better than the Rare DKC games. They're my favorite ever and man those games are just perfect.
@WiiFolderJosh Of course the game is going to be better. They have 100x more advanced technology than 15 years ago. DKC was cutting edge for its time. Retro Studios is trying to be "America's Rare" and they are doing a pretty good job, now that Rare sucks. Pretty creative and imaginative for an American company. I wonder if they have as good sound composers as Rare did? But until they come up with an original game like "Banjo and Kazooie" or "Battletoads" I'm going to say Rare was better
This is the best looking game I have ever seen. Nothing will ever be able to top in. This game has better graphics than the xbox 360 and the ps3 combined.
I missed all the great things that Nintendo gave out to Nintendo Power subscribers. It was sad when they gave up the publishing. I've got a bunch of videos like this one, I even remember a local TV station played this video late one night. I was quite shocked to see it and even though I had already watched it a million times before I watched it again.
Donkey Kong Country 1 was the best! its a shame 2 years later DKC 3 was pretty much a failure because of the nintendo 64 launch

Rare was clearly depicted as located in England in this video, and the word is spelled "British."
not everyone thinks you are worth lying to. *Some* people will do it to themselves regardless, and we leave your moron ass by the wayside.
Don't ask me to think more critically simply because you can not, people are not here to make sense of the world for you.

"Stole the banana hoard", wait........why does that sound oddly suggestive?

This is the best looking game I have ever seen. Nothing will ever be able to top in. This game has better graphics than the xbox 360 and the ps3 combined.

9:52 He got more than 600 bananas

@romanemul How's that possible? Once you get 100 bananas it gives you a life and it resets to 0 xD
Must be a pre-production version or something. xD
