Didn't know he was that multi-instrument. Or, actually, I didn't pay attention. Hey, Loreena McKennitt! You need somebody to play the mandolin or mountain dulcimer? Here's your man!
He's got an unique style but first and foremost he's a brilliant song writer. It means he does not and can't even hide behind gimmicks. A bit like the Beatles.
He's the God of stringed instruments. He's not necessarily the best guitarist or best mandolinist or, in this case, best dulcimerist but knows how to play the notes and make people go, "wow... that's some tune".
What he meant by it is that Peter plays like somebody who's heard it all. He knows what has already been done and can find new music in the spaces between.
after listening to the new songs here on youtube, i have no idea what song this would go to.. just fooling around i guess? heh. i like how michael acknowledges youtube's existence. he knows we're all here!
well if they're still making a painful attempt at staying together and recording (sigh) more records, we can hope they can recapture at least some of the magic from New Adventures in Hi Fi, or at least UP. Not bloody likely, though :(
Luckily it seems you've been proved wrong, they do seem to be making a Hi Fi type record, although iv also been a fan of the recent records, oh well, each to they're own :)
REM are the greatest band in the world ever, to me anyway! It's just a shame that Bill is no longer with the group, I really miss seeing them all together!
CAREFUL- Peter's instrument may be out of tune. It could go airborne at any time!!
Just Kiddin'- I love these guys and have since 1985...wish I could say 1980, but I was only 12 then and listening to AOR crap. Countless trips between Athens and Tallahassee bring back unbelievable memories.
I would spend the money on the airfare/ hotel if I could get a Dublin concert ticket.
Can't wait til Dublin... Woo... Was at Wychwood Festival on Friday, and saw Pater with Robyn Hitchcock.. And I was very close, and got very excited.. and i'm in row C for Dublin.. so closeness again..
Uauuuu, here in Spain, you guys have so many fans. We need your new album soon, please. I saw you in Torrevieja, a couple of years ago (and Michael mentioned gay marriages!!!) We love you. Come back soon!
they're always at their creative best when they experiment with new sounds and song structures. Maybe the new album will sound like Arabic folk rock and baroque pop with themes of cyberspace transcendental mysticism. I love when REM expands my consciousness.

Eddie Vedder said it best:
He plays like somebody who works in a record store.

Well, uh... Pete worked in a record store when he met Michael, so I guess that Eddie was just being as honest as possible...?
