  • The University of TEXAS archives There's a yellow rose in Texas, that I am going to see, No other darky [sic] knows her, no darky only meShe cryed [sic] so when I left her it like to broke my heart,

And if I ever find her, we nevermore will part.

Chorus:She's the sweetest rose of color this darky ever knew,Her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew;You may talk about your Dearest May, and sing of Rosa Lee,But the Yellow Rose of Texas beats the belles of Tennessee.

  • i sould so see the south making this song during the civil war all the texans singing this hoping to go back home victorious to their wives i love the south

  • @onodrim20001 NO this song is honor of Emily West Morgan the mulatress salve, "captured" by Empereor Santa Ana during the Texas Warof Independance. Ms West seduced the Emperor, incapcitating him, leading to Houston 's total victory at San Jacinto. This the song of TEXAS victory not the confederacy

  • Thank you for having the courage to do this song the way it was written!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THE SOUTH SHALL RISE!

  • When I was at Glendale Union Academy, Glendale, California, teacher Edwin Harkins played this recording. I bought "The Union" and "The Confederacy" as a result of his sharing this with our class. Producer Richard Bales verified the text of this song before recording it. They are the song's original words.

  • @Davie1954 Yes, this is about a slave that helped with the Texas Revolution.
