A CEO, a tea party member, and a union worker are all sitting at a table when a plate with a dozen cookies arrives. Before anyone else can make a move, the CEO reaches out to rake in eleven of the cookies. When the other two look at him in surprise, the CEO locks eyes with the tea party member. “You better watch him,” the executive says with a nod toward the union worker. “He wants a piece of your cookie.”
she's an old fool that is no longer alive, but has a huge following of other fools who live in society and civilization and yet seek to be self-sufficient without knowing what that truly means. Basically we all benefit from the hard work that each and everyone of us do. We depend on each other to make our contributions and have our success. I wish Americans understood this.
If you consider a certificate of live birth, which says that a live birth has taken place but does not specify the place birth was at a :birth certificate" in which a doctor says they witnessed the birth of the child. I'm not sure how you equate that with racism as opposed to a sincere inquisition as to where our Commander in chief, was born. Why won't our CINC provide a birth certificate if his birth is a clear and concise case?
I did find it amusing that Rearden had a schism in his ethics. He'd ruin himself to keep his word and be honest in business, but he had no problem at all breaking his marriage vows...
Just got back from watching this movie... and I must say that it was HILARIOUSLY BAD!
Ayn Rand must be rolling over in her grave at the wooden dialog and horrific acting (with the exception of Taylor Schilling) on display in this movie. This movie is the living embodiment of the mediocrity that she spent her life rallying against.
@smb12321 I suggest that you provide a link to the "review" that you claim I plagiarized. Deflecting criticism of the movie by attempting to discredit my opinion is a weak minded tactic.
@Diatonic5th Sorry, I should have said your review sounds similar to almost every review (please google "atlas shrugged reviews"), Almost to a "T" they say the performances are wooden except for Schilling. Others add mediocrity and horrific acting. (I haven't seen it yet). Friends who saw it thought it grand but then they're not movie critics. Some audiences cheered but they were probably evil Tea Party folks babbling about dumb things like liberty. LOL
@mkloppel Oh, my god! You lie, you lie, you lying sack of shit. If there was a standing ovation it's because the audience was celebrating that the fucking movie had finally ended.
When that beautiful CGI JohnGaltLine was racing across the majestic Colorado countryside, and came to that elegant, graceful, magnificent bridge, the tears flowed, and one of my favorite lines from the Baen books novel "Fallen Angels" went through my mind over and over...
both sides are lame but the dems at least learned from their mistakes, the right wing is still trying to take us back to KKK era policies (shit on the poor, beat up union members etc)
@amitbarfs Interesting comment, being that the KKK's very roots were born of the democratic party. You might want to do a bit of research on a subject before you post a comment for the world to see.
i'm talking about the rightwing, they are very racist these days. almost like the KKK was back in the 60s. thankfully the democrats learned their lesson but hte republicans are now embracing the morally repugnant ideals of KKK.
@amitbarfs These days huh? Like when the TEA Party came about? Strange, when I try to picture what you'd look like I see a person wearing a tin-foil hat. Enjoy your kool-aid, I'm going to get back to my life.
i'm just saying, in modern era the rightwing is very racist. look at what they say about the president's birthplace. as if hawaii is somehow not part of USA just because it has many minorities. if the rightwing wasn't racist i honestly wouldn't have a problem with them. but the racism really sticks out like a sore thumb. also the homophobia. the rightwing is very immature and morally repugnant to me. thats why i think they remind me of KKK.
@amitbarfs If racism is your biggest concern you are an imbecile. Racism is WAY down the list of important things. Quite frankly I would rather hang out with someone who hated white people but supported totally unregulated capitalism than a white collectivist liberal.
@amitbarfs That's right, just you wait, when we Klanspeople take over we are moving forward with "Emancipation Retraction" legislation. Then what huh? Where is your god now?
@Auggie56 I'm not sure what you asking for. Why I think amitbarfs is an especially pathetic troll? Well, for one, besides the usual pathetic, illogical things a Lefty troll tends to post, he/she posts utter nonsense like "I have free will, unlike yourself" when attacking those who disagree, in addition to patently trollish things like responding to someone bringing up rights by posting "Rights are overrated." (Those from watch?v=aq0kBkUZbvQ .) It's just really, really lame trolling.
Folks if you want to identify one single reason it is hard to promote objectivism you need look no further than imbeciles like Cal Thomas. Thomas is totally misguided and no real understanding of freedom. God does not give rights, men earn them with blood and hard work. You fuckwitted Christians who are weekend objectivists are no different than the Statists you pretend to oppose. YOU are the reason Obama was elected.
@Huboons Actually, it's people like you that make Objectivism impossible to mass communicate, because you're too hung up on making everyone think the same about one subject that you can never really talk about anything else. For all of Ayn Rand's positive attributes, she was a clinical megalomaniac and a control freak, and it shows in her treatment of others who had the misfortune of disagreeing with her on a few things.
@hellsunicorn Rejection of any god is one of its main tenets. The fact that you didn't know that shows you have no understanding of the topic. "How did the first man earn his life?" - There was no "first man", the species evolved from primates and their lives were earned through the development of larger craniums, the use of tools and the development of trade. When collectivists use fear to keep others from exploring Objectivism, Christian knee scrappers are the poster children of fear.
@Huboons Well since you're in the business of splitting hairs, how did the first of the species earn their lives? At some point, in order to be intellectually honest, you'll have to put your hands up and admit that you can't answer the question. My general beef with most Aristotelian cultists of one type or another, is that eventually they will arrogantly assume that they determine who they are.
P.S. - Rejection of God also appears to be rejection of logic by your example.
@hellsunicorn - I do determine who I am. By definition I am the only one who can be demonstrated to have done so. My life of achievement based on rational decision making is objective proof of this process. Care to provide any proof that a deity has "determined who I am?"
@BeethovenWannabe I can think of 3 in the Senate and a handful in the House, but otherwise its all Keynesian Crony Capitalism, if the last word can really be applied to it.
I don't agree with Cal Thomas. I'm not an atheist....but his statement about God is a statement of faith, not fact.....but he says it with all the snootiness as if it was a fact.....annoying...
Maybe you could just TELL me what it's about 'cause I really hate reading bad fiction and overwrought prose...

@NoMoreBlatherDotCom The definition of libertarian is someone who believes in individual rights. Whether you believe that for personal gain, utilitarian reasons, or out of a sense of morality, you're still a libertarian.
@shamgar001: it's great for libertarians that they believe in "individual rights". The problem happens when those "individual rights" interfere with others' rights.
For instance, libertarians frequently claim that they should be able to hire anyone they want, such as (what we Americans call) illegal aliens. They present that as a purely personal transaction, when in fact those personal transactions affect everyone else in the U.S.
If all the libertarians went Galt (in Somalia) it'd be great.
@NoMoreBlatherDotCom I agree that allowing free immigration would have some negative consequences if not enacted in the correct order.
My issue is your claim that people should distrust libertarians. If anything, they are the only ones wyho can be trusted, since they operate according to consistant principles.
@shamgar001: I don't trust other groups; there are few political types of any stripe I'd trust with even a Big Mac.
However, libertarians cannot be trusted *even more* than other groups because their ideology itself would lead to massive problems for the great majority of Americans.
There's nothing inherent in liberal or conservative ideology requiring loose borders; those members of those groups who do support that are perverting their ideology because they're corrupt.
LOL Typical leftist trash. If you can't argue against facts, then destroy them. Only fascists are into book burning and trying to quiet ideas they disagree with.
Just saw the first showing in CT. It was very good. Objectively, no pun intended, I'd give it a B+. Hopefully it does well at the box office and parts 2 and 3 get bigger budgets so they can really hammer it home!

Liberals "accept" and "relate to" psychopaths and pedophiles, huh? Don't you think you might be overgeneralizing just a tiny bit?
A statement like that makes me believe you're either one of two things: a common troll just trying to be outrageous or one of those morons who equates political affiliation with character and morality.
True. Political adversaries tend to rely on silly stereotypes and meaningless hyperbole to attack each other.
Personally, I try to avoid blanket generalizations like "liberal" and "conservative" anymore. Painting the entire spectrum of political opinion in either black or white is a childish approach, at best.
CommonRaven (one individual and not all conservatives, mind you) seems to think equating "Liberals" with pedophiles is some kind of inarguable truth. I'm calling bullshit...
Friendly reminder, guys: Ayn Rand was a welfare leech who took tons of money from the US government under another name for disability. So not only is she a shit writer and also an idiot, she's a hypocrite as well!
@Jack194343 Really unneccessary and childish language, this is why the internet is anonymous huh? A little harsh a comment for a video about a movie premier. Grow up sir

Libertarians support loose or open borders, something that would:
- greatly increase social spending (they aren't making ending the welfare state a precondition to loose borders)...
- give even more power to the far-left and the Dems...
- give even more power inside the U.S. to the Mex. gov't...
- even further increase the wealth gap in the U.S...
- and much, much more...
Don't trust libertarians: *by definition* they only care what's best for themselves, not what's best for the U.S.

@Jack194343 Wow, stole a review, eh? Straight from the comingsoon review.
Busted. Your last two sentences are straight out of the 7th paragraph under "Analysis."

@CommonRaven

@WoodyLittle How dare conservatives generalize. Only us gun-toting, bible thumping, redneck, extremist, right-wing nutjob, poor exploiting, feeding granny dog food, racist, sexist, homophobic, selfish, greedy conservatives are guilty of doing that, eh?

@Protege385

Jack194343 10 months ago

Care to cite some evidence or a source supporting this claim?

@Jack194343 Funny how you come here to insult and attack the character of her person rather than her points.
Refute her or sit down and shut up.
