  • I haven't heard this song since I was little, and it really reminds me of my Dad. And how he got after our mom left us, and my little brother. That was 18yrs ago . . . and he still hasn't got over her, she ripped his heart out =(

  • this is the best song ever

  • For all the times I let my father down.

  • Happy Birthday E L V I S!

This one recorded Jan 15, 1969... On my Dad's Birthday, (My Dad born just one week AFTER ELVIS!).

  • And, to think Elvis said "I do not know what music is. In my line you don't have to know it" Was he being humble? Or, did he rightfully claimed his place as THE KING? Do you know, I named my son Elvis (though he can not sing like Elvis). But then who can? I still love him

I cry every time I hear this.

  • You think this version is sad, you ought to hear the version that his daughter made with him singing this beautiful song and the Ghetto as well. I've known of this song for many, many years and from the first time I heard it to this day it still brings me to tears to hear it. And more so when it is sung with Lisa Marie who has her Dad's sweet talent as well!!! Lovely version here and lovely version with Lisa as well!!! Check it out on You Tube.

  • Elvis is the only artist that can make people cry with a few words, this and In The Ghetto made me cry :(

I wish I lived in his time and saw him live. A true legend and he will never be forgotten.

  • What a great song! Never heard it before today and I'm 42

  • I've never heard this version before, ever!

  • Thank you Jackie, great job as always. :-)))

  • Great job as always Jackie, 10 Stars. This has always been one of my most favorite songs that Elvis ever recorded. This song was written by Mac Davis. The other three songs that Elvis recorded that were written by Mac Davis were "A Little Less Conversation", "In The Ghetto" and "Memories". Mac Davis hosted his very own music TV Show for a couple of years back in the 1970's and my parents have attended one of his concerts.

  • It is available on Always on My Mind, Elvis: Worldwide 50 Gold Award Hits, Vol.1, The Memphis Record, The Top Ten Hits, From Nashville to Memphis: The Essential 60s Masters, 2nd to None, Artist of the Century, The 50 Greatest Love Songs, and Suspicious Minds (1999).

  • Written by Mac Davis. Elvis recorded it January 15, 1969 at American Sound Studios in Memphis. Ronnis Milsap sang harmony and Ed Kollis played harmonica. The single release had a 13-week stay on Billboards Hot 100 chart, peaking at #6. It reached #13 on the country chart, and sold over 1,000,000 copies. It was the A-side to Rubberneckin.
