  • do you run electric fuel pumps, seems you have fuel starvation at higher rpms

  • Have you tried running tri-blades?

There's a guy that made a model scale merlin engine, that would be great for a spitfire but the cost for making four of them would be prohibitive!

Good job, I used to RC as a kid and still have a scar on the back of my had from the Irvine .25 glo-plug engine!

  • this model is fantastic, i am in the stages of designing one, i found some old blue print i made up a while ago =) i think im using electric though =) abit more reliable.

also, you appear to be missing a cockpit my friend

  • I have had a good idea! i want to have a lancaster but i don't want 4 engines so i can have engines in the middle and free spinning ones at the side as they normally only have the inner ones started when taxiing, then when it goes down the runway it will spin the props in the wing looking like a real one!

  • Why use diesels? They are hopeless, the one I had refused to start most of the time, gloe engines arent much better, but they are 100% better than diesels!!

  • I am using Diesels because compared to Glo engines, they are quieter, more torque, swing a bigger - more scale sized prop, have a small silencer which fits completely inside the cowling - more scale like, run well when very hot which the cowling causes by being tight fitting, and very low fuel consumption so can get longer duration using the fuel tanks which are small but take up all the available room in the nacelles.

  • I forgot to mention - you can see in the second video just how easy it is to start the engines - one flick and they are off. No battery, no wires to get tangled moving from one running engine to start another = pretty safe and easy.

  • @silver760

    You mean, you couldn't start it! :-}

  • @direktorpresident Exacly,it was a pain in the ass to start, stayed with glow engines.

  • Sweet music to my ears! Did you use a single fuel tank, bladder tank or individual tanks? Thanks for posting.

  • Glad you liked it.

Each engine has its own tank in the nacelle.

My friend Bob made each tank to fit the space available, from folded aluminium sheet, welded, then with epoxy to be sure.

  • why cant you state Toy plane in the title

  • its not a toy :P its a RC model

  • someone so needs to make a model engine that sounds like a merlin!

  • wots happened to the main cockpit?? lol its just a hole with a guy in it.

    nice work anyway guys!

  • dude thats nice..wish i had the time to build 1 like that.all i got is a piper cub and a few simple kits

  • Is this kit available anywhere?

  • It isn't made any more as far as I know.

The original manufacturer was Aerotech in England. They went bust about seven or eight years ago.

I did see their kits being made again by someone else a few years later, then it went quiet again. Tim

  • yeah , u can buy a model liek it i think , just google search S&B, i have one of there planes, a me 163c Komet, made of indestructible EPP, search komets on here

  • holly , thats huge!!

  • bloody noisy thing.
