  • good playing!!

  • what an interesting instrument, i never noticed before now that dulcimer frets aren't evenly spaced like on the guitar or banjo.

  • they're spaced unevenly so the instrument isnt chromatic, they play like the white keys on a piano i believe.

  • Thanks so much for the wonderful lesson.

    Peace,

    Spang

  • Thanks, glad that you enjoyed my video!

  • whoa this sounds just so...beautifully...something i would love to dance too if i could dance XD i wish i could play something like this on my violin!!! or guitar...lolz XD awesome job!!

  • Thank you! Fun one to play as well : D. Get some tab and start learning for your violin, would love to hear what you come up with!

  • I'm impressed! You can play "Shady Grove" with out a capo, just use the C-A-D tuning. I been listeing to your videos...great playing and great sounding dulcimer!!

Aloha~Terry Duggins and the Zither Band

  • Thanks for watching, glad you liked it! I found a weird way to play Shady Grove a while back that uses D-A-dd tuning, what I do is just play it starting at the 7 fret, and use the 6 1/2 for those extra notes you need for the song. Thanks once again for watching!

  • The way your are talking about is in Dm, you are basicly doing what dulcimerhawaii said without retuning. But, the C# on 6 1/2 is not used, but the natural C on 6 is used. It is an octave up from the DAC tuning, you also can do this with a 1 and 1/2 fret withou retuning, because the 1.5 on the middle string is a C that you need, same rule applies to the 8.5 fret. This can be played in Dm without retuning also.

  • thanks for sharing this, I never seem to get this song to sound good.

  • Thanks for watching! Its a weird song, because of that drone effect you have to try to cause when playing it. Thanks!

  • Fantastic! I hope it's not rude to ask, but where can you find the tabs for this? Do you know of a book? I don't think I could pull it off by ear. . . Great job!

  • Thanks, I only know of one book that has the tab for this ( though I am sure there are lots out there ) And that book is, Mel Bay's You Can Teach Yourself Dulcimer

    Hope this helps.

  • Wow, thanks for the quick response! I'm going to try to go tomorrow and get a capo and that book if it's in stock there. Thanks again! You play beautifully!

  • i love shady groove one of my favs

  • Yea, its a great tune!

  • Beautiful - I like the traditional (especially Celtic) songs played on dulcimer.

  • I am happy that you enjoyed it.

  • I got a complaint on the last shady grove, saying that they liked it, but they wished it was more traditional. I promised the person I would make one more version of Shady Grove for them. It is D A D D tuning (individual 4 string tuning), capo one. I will not be taking the other version down because I found a lot of players enjoyed that version as well.

(I didn't get a camera man this time because I didn't want to bug him so quick after another episode, but I hope yall enjoy any way.)
