A lot of people equate this to just the Democratic party because of liberal in the name, but it was actually born out of Reaganomics. These policies removed the Alexander Hamilton manufacturing and economic policies that kept us protected from foreign manufacturing. It favors a market that allows corporations to easily hire outside the country, and not have to deal with workers rights here in the US.

It's commonplace to see them touting Large Corporation X building a new facility in China or elsewhere in Asia or India. It's really disgusting. As a result of this outsourcing, we are now seeing a severe shortage of skilled workers (welders, fabricators, machinists, etc.) available in the U.S.

The money isn't just sitting collecting dust. The stimulus was supposed to go out in stages. So no, all the money hasn't been spent and it wasn't intended to all be spent at one time. One reason for that is to make sure as much as possible it went to go projects and not fraud.
Many economist feel there should be a 2nd stimulus, that the first wasn't big enough. Even conservative economists agree that the stimulus has been a good thing.

The single biggest flaw in progressive theology is to tax the living batcrap out of everything moving.
With more liberal policies, like regulation, the market remained stable until the 80s. Even though top tax rates were well about 90%, the economy continued to expand after WWII. Remember, initially HW Bush called supply-side economics "voo-doo" economics. Conservative economists ridiculed the "laffer curve." And after W's tax cuts are allowed to expire, top tax rates will still be below what they were during the Reagan administration - especially what they were after Reagan raised taxes.
There are a number of reasons progressive policies haven't been implemented: the super-rich, those making a million or more, have too much to lose. It's better for them to spend money supporting conservative policies and convincing people making less to vote against their economic interests.
In fact, after the market crash of 1929, during FDR's administration, a number of progressive-lite policies were put in place (mostly to the benefits of whites, but be that is it may).
Yes, Obama did keep a lot of Bush laws and ideas - which I disagree with. I agree that the Dems should pay their taxes, but I don't see what that has to do with policy. It's not been long enough to see the full impact of the stimulus. The control the Dems had over the House was mitigated by a Repub Senate and pres. I'm not sure how much power you think the Dems had, but it wasn't much. What we're have now is the impact of policies made prior to either Obama or the Dems retaking the House.

A lot of people equate this to just the Democratic party because of liberal in the name, but it was actually born out of Reaganomics. These policies removed the Alexander Hamilton manufacturing and economic policies that kept us protected from foreign manufacturing. It favors a market that allows corporations to easily hire outside the country, and not have to deal with workers rights here in the US.

It's commonplace to see them touting Large Corporation X building a new facility in China or elsewhere in Asia or India. It's really disgusting. As a result of this outsourcing, we are now seeing a severe shortage of skilled workers (welders, fabricators, machinists, etc.) available in the U.S.

But just for myself, I wanted to be sure. So I didn't just trust MSM or Dems. I did the reading and research on my own. Ask your librarian for help cause a lot of people have written books and skewed or ignored the facts. So don't read Dinesh Souza (really, don't) and trust that. He's partisan. If you don't wanna read Paul Krugman, that's cool.

The money isn't just sitting collecting dust. The stimulus was supposed to go out in stages. So no, all the money hasn't been spent and it wasn't intended to all be spent at one time. One reason for that is to make sure as much as possible it went to go projects and not fraud.
Many economist feel there should be a 2nd stimulus, that the first wasn't big enough. Even conservative economists agree that the stimulus has been a good thing.

There has been redistribution of wealth upwards - so instead taking "hard working" Americans hard-earned money and using it to keep people out of poverty, we've been taking hard-earned income and giving it to the rich. During the last decade, the proportion of Americans in poverty has increased.

For example, the article you messaged to me - the NYT op-ed it sites ACTUALLY said the cuts on the wealthy could be allowed to expire, but in order to pay for obligations to the boomer generation, everyone's taxes would have to be increase. TO PAY FOR OBLIGATIONS.
Allowing the cuts to expire will cut the deficit by 25-30%. And if take the laffer curve seriously, we've long since passed the optimum point. Taxes on people earning >$500k is far too low.

Cali's problem isn't progressive policies. Their problem is that ridiculous ceiling on property taxes. While Cali is a blue state, I'm not sure a tax ceiling is blue policy. Be that as it may, when it comes to Fed money Received Per Dollar of Taxes Paid by State, Cali and other blue states get the least. At 9 of the top 10 who get the most are red states. (NM went for Obama in 2008, but is otherwise red.)

Here's your compelling reply. You cannot possibly tax the nation into prosperity. When you raise the taxes on businesses while you believe you are taxing the rich the small business owner is going to get killed. There goes your revenue base. Taxes cannot uphold the private sector, where production occurs.

Let's remember - what the "moral majority" claimed to oppose were social issues, not progressive tax rates, per se. And for all the bemoaning of taxing dividens, you gotta agree with Warren Buffet that his tax rate should be higher than his secretaries.
What we need is not just progressive tax rates, but more tax brackets. I do agree with those who worry that small business owners shouldn't pay the same tax rate as Rupert Murdoch. We need more brackets at the upper strata to account for that.

With more liberal policies, like regulation, the market remained stable until the 80s. Even though top tax rates were well about 90%, the economy continued to expand after WWII. Remember, initially HW Bush called supply-side economics "voo-doo" economics. Conservative economists ridiculed the "laffer curve." And after W's tax cuts are allowed to expire, top tax rates will still be below what they were during the Reagan administration - especially what they were after Reagan raised taxes.

There are a number of reasons progressive policies haven't been implemented: the super-rich, those making a million or more, have too much to lose. It's better for them to spend money supporting conservative policies and convincing people making less to vote against their economic interests.
In fact, after the market crash of 1929, during FDR's administration, a number of progressive-lite policies were put in place (mostly to the benefits of whites, but be that is it may).

Yes, Obama did keep a lot of Bush laws and ideas - which I disagree with. I agree that the Dems should pay their taxes, but I don't see what that has to do with policy. It's not been long enough to see the full impact of the stimulus. The control the Dems had over the House was mitigated by a Repub Senate and pres. I'm not sure how much power you think the Dems had, but it wasn't much. What we're have now is the impact of policies made prior to either Obama or the Dems retaking the House.

Deregulating the financial market, not enforcing safety regulations - all that got signed off under W Bush. During his administration, the rich, very rich, and very very rich benefited the most from the tax cuts. The gap between the rich and poor widened. If the tax cuts expire, the budget deficit will drop by 25-30%.
Conservative economists agree that the stimulus worked, or at least prevented a larger recession.
Dems only got the House in 2006, not Congress.

@ drhu - No, the trouble didn't start in 2008. For example, few groups were complaining/warning of the impending meltdown due to subprime lending and the housing market well before 2008. Coal mine collapses, oil well explosions, financial market meltdown - all that was the result of 30years of deregulations and weaking govt agencies.
W Bush inherited a budget surplus, got us into 2 wars without paying for either, cut taxes without paying for them.

Like I said, contributions from individual journalists don't matter to me because they have that right as individuals. So I didn't get the number on MSNBC. But, I did find the numbers on their parent company GE, and it contributed to both parties, mostly Republicans until 2008 and 2010.

To that end, MSNBC originally planned on being another Conservative network, but when they found they couldn't compete with Fox, they decided to fill the opposite niche, and looked to attract the liberals. Of course, they still actually make some attempt to balance THAT out with a morning full of Scarborough, who's admittedly more sane on MSNBC than he was on Fox, at least.
So ultimately, it's not surprising to think that at its core, there's still plenty of GOP support.
