  • Nice bugs mate. The noose should be made compulsory, does not harm the cray and allows release if in berry or soft. Thanks for the vid.

  • woohoo...use your hands you pussy...

  • well done good vid mate diver to diver

  • fuck the scuba divers n crays. i freedive. the real way it must be done. fuckn pussies.

  • @Garethbarske

or maybe you cant afford dive gear

  • that was so sick man

  • when my brother catches crayfish he put a net in the water and thousand come out when he pulls it out or just grab them with your hand

  • Catching cray on SCUBA should be illegalised.

  • ignoranr swine

  • just coz u cant dive for em lol

  • they wer then maybe?

  • Those nooses arn't legal ae mate, use your hands

  • They were legal when it was filmmed num nuts u may be to young to remember ... ametuer

  • freakn watch your mouth

  • hmm... dont know about your little contraption..

in wellington we use our hands..

  • Loved the WOOHOO!

Great video. Shows very clearly the use of a snare to catch a lobster. Better than my attempt at filming it anyways,

  • ok sweet just thought i'd check, because i dont think you can on south island, thats alright.nice vid, and nice cray

  • it is technically a lobster but everyone just calls em crayfish alright.also i are you on south island, because if so i dont think your aloud to use scuba gear for getting cray and im not sure on the snare either.

  • You can use scuba to get crays in NZ this is up near the top of the north island. Also when this was fimed nooses/snares were legal however they have changed the law and you can no longer use them hope you enjoyed the video!

  • that is a lobster. you can tell by the claws. crayfish have huge claws and are about 6 inches max. lobster have small claws but are 2 feet+

  • Your right, it's a crayfish. The main diffrence between them is crayfish are freshwater, and lobsters are saltwater. There is no such thing as a freshwater lobster, or a saltwater crayfish.

  • ya there is

  • Then tell me the name of one genus of saltwater crayfish.

  • Albert Cray Einstein .

    Oh......you said Genus....never mind.

  • @andrewajt62 wrong on both counts

  • I personally love crayfish (not to eat) but as an owner I think there sooooo coool!

  • thats a lobbster not a crayfish

  • Are you sure thats a crayfish? I go to Lake Tahoe every year and none of them I caught were nearly that big. In fact they were like 1 inch and under...

  • This is in nz- salt water cray fish. the type u would have been getting are fresh water crays smaller but just as tasty!

  • if you didnt have the noose that cray would probably still be there!!they are an unfair advantage to the diver and should be illegal!! if ya cant catch a cray with your own two hands then leave it alone!!!:(

  • nooses were legal when this was filmed u muppet!! and yes i am quite proficient at getn them with my hands as well know me b4 u judge me... lemon

  • true m8.sorry bout that.didnt mean to get you upset.each to there own aye!!

  • not upset m8 just getn the point across! have a gd 1!!!!!!! :p

  • Haha, those snares are shockers mate, theyre illegal too. use your hands

  • M8 they are the cleanest way to catch cray fish! i believe it is better to use them then ur hands for the sole reason being u cause less damage to the cray when pulling them out and if u find they are in berry or soft(ie illegal) u can put them back in better condition. note the cray caught in this vid only lost 1 leg where if u catch them by hand u risk ripping of feelers legs etc and still might miss them.

  • oh my gosh are you from the north if not your plain dumbthere crawfish YALL lol yeehaw

  • is their legs falling off normal? I have two as a pet and one PULLED OFF ITS LEG. But please, will it be okay?

  • Nice work! Loved the 'Woohoo!'. Lmao.

I do the same down here in South Australia, but I use snorkel, not scuba. (Not as deep, obviously.) I've been doing it 5 years and have only just started using a snare like the one in the video. Damn it makes it easier. I used to catch all mine by hand. (Still do with some of em, if i can't get the snare past it) Nice video!

  • cool

  • Where abouts was this and how deep were you diving?

Interesting video, did you use the noose from behind (couldn't tell)

  • Hi this was filmed in the bay of islands nz in 2005 approx 20m by friends of mine while i was at anutha cray nest

yes u use the noose frm behind( open noose fully and move it down side of cray(or open when at back) either the cray will walk back into noose then close fast and hold or slowly bring noose foward and close u cant miss with them really just avoid the feelers or theyll bolt happy hunting :)

ps at the very end u see in the catch bag... its stakt!!!!!!

    live like kings!!!!

  • Thanks for that, I know this sounds stupid but I thought you put the noose over the feelers because I've never seen them used before. I will definatley be taking my noose on the next dive now that I know how to use it, hopefully with success!! Cheers!

  • i think there illegal now in nz but its a croc they are the safest way to catch crays eg less chance 2 damage them if they are in berry or soft -less chance u get bit by congar eels etc so f@#k it i use them :p

  • Damn your right, I just had a look at the fisheries site and is says "It is not permitted to use lasso's to catch rock lobster." which I agree is stupid. I don't know how many leggless, feeler-less crays I've left behind, a noose would be way better for the cray!
