This is a really great technology that allows an engine to combine both fuel economy AND power.  I really wish more manufacturers used this. This is way beyond what most manufacturer's variable valve timing.

Some people post how a V8 would be better - but imagine an engine with both displacement and VTEC. There's no reason to have one or the other when we could have both.

You can hook vtec up to a switch... but its absolutely useless... vtec wont make much if any power any lower then 4000 rpm.. plus you will use up gas.. and oil if it burns oil in vtec... its eco friendly. most people shift around 3 k- 4k rpm driving normal, so you dont need power, so if you want power your going to go above 5000 rpm anyways, Which is why vtec is there to give it more power, ill agree with people when they say vtec sucks, my Sohc vtec sucks.. barely does anything but make a roar.

I-VTEC is as soon as you floor it vtec engages... unlike other normal Vtec engines. it goes at normally 5500 rpm, or wherever you set it at.

DOHC vtec has both exhaust and intake valves open up when vtec engages...

SOHC vtec only has the intake side open up...

Honda was the first Motor company ever in the world to invent Variable Valve TIming And Lift it was started through there motorcycles side it had nothing to do with automobile engines the technology came out in the 1984 Honda CBR400R and it wasnt even called VTEC it was called REV-Revolution Modulated Valve Control holler at me when u have facts .

Honda didn't pioneer anything besides making gay little cars appeal to some.
