Whatever you guys with keloids do don't get surgery to remove them. I got surgery a year ago not knowing what I had was keloids. I only found out after they send what they removed to the lab, before that both me and the doctor thought they were cysts. Anyway after the surgery they came back. What else can you expect by cutting a scar, it will just create a bigger scar. I will get treatment again but this time I will go for the type that freezes the keloid to remove it.
I am back. I just got one of my keloids removed from my left ear. The doc numbed my ear first, then he cut it off. This procedure was not expensive at all. It cost $535 for the surgery. However, it is good to have insurance bc the meds that you need to prevent the keloids from coming back costs $500 as well. Next surgery Feb 11th 2012

@hitheresailor There are two meds that are required for use of 8 weeks. One is an anti- biotic called Mupirocin. This meds prevents infection on the incision site. The other med is called Zyclara. It is very expensive. I have insurance and the insurance didnt accept the generic brand (Imiquimod), So my dermatologist had to re write a prescription for Zyclara. This med cost $800. I had to ask for a discount card from the doc's office to cover the $300 co pay.

Awww! I have had keloids on my ears for about 8 years as well. I finally got my own insurance and saw a dermatologist 2 weeks ago. I just had my first child in 09. The scar from the c-section healed as a keloid and it was still pain after for years. The doctor injected my scar on the stomach. I have a surgery for one of my ears on Jan4. After that one, I will see how it is healing, then I will do the other ear. Deb your story like really touched me. I was embarrased as well.
@debobanks I basically took bayer asprin and wet it a bit (only a drop) crushed it and created a paste like substance then I placed it on the keloid, everyone said that the asprin trick works and so does the tea tree oil so I decided to use both. I also put a few drop of tea tree oil on the keloid while the asprin paste was on it. I did this every day twice. and I put tea tree oil on the keloid like every 3 hours or so and it flattened then disappeared. Hope it works for you :-)
You make me feel strong, your bravery inspires me. I have one on my chest too and I feel okay about myself and all, but on the odd occasion when someone asks about it, it makes me kind of self-conscious. The last instance was some dude from my husband's work asking about what happened...if I had heart surgery or something. I wanted to tell this fool yeah, the doctor made the cut up by my throat to get to my heart. Anyway, you're lovely and thank you for blessing me.

Wow, You are really brave, I have keloids too, they are very simular to yours. I have seen a lot of attractive women like ourselves who have keloids on their face and chest, and shoulders, most are like you unafraid to show them. I show mine sometimes, but for the most part I do not like showing them. Partly because they came from acne and acne is dirt. They look like dirt spots on my skin.
Hey I'm 16 and I had one right in the middle of my chest also. Same size and everything except I got mine from chickenpox. Anyway I had surgery about 2 years ago and it got bigger but flatter then recently got steroids injected into it every month or so and one have is almost completely flat. I have a few "bubbles" if you may but those are where the biggest part of my keloid was so I'm guessing it will take longer. Have you ever considered shots or surgery?

.I also have keloids on my chest and back. I have gotten my keloids injected by the dermantologist and I REALLY RECCOMMEND IT. It is not really painful, just uncomfortable but it only lasts for a second and within a week or 2 after the injections my keloids were flattened and they look so much better! I was so happy because I have struggled a lot with insecurities about them. If your keloids are thicker then you might need 2 or 3 injections. Hope this helps!
I commented on Debra's video a while back and wanted to post an update for anyone still looking for a solution. Back story is that I got keloids on both ears from piercings when i was about 12 years old. I successfully got rid of them at about age 16, but was dumb enough to re-pierce at about 19 and I got them again. There is a way to remove them, theres this study that if you freeze the keloid it will fall off, although your doctor has to freeze it. I recently had a keloid due to a navel piercing but my piercer said to get bayer asprin wet it a little to create a paste and cover your keloid with the paste. I worked for me, it gradually got smaller, and went away. I also used tea tree oil, it helps ALOT. Because a keloid is puss filled and bayer asprin & tea tree oil draws out the puss from the keloid.

I do have two 2 inch long keloids on my chest and one 1 inch wide keloid on my right arm I will be getting shot with fluid to make it go down on the 13 of may.
I have a four small keloids on my right shoulder. They started out as pimples when I was 25 yrs old and darkened. Now two have joined together and I'm worried that they others may link up and form a larger keloid. Is there anything that can be done to prevent this, that you know of? Also, my grandma had a couple and my dad has a few. My brother and sister both have one tiny keloid (on the forearm and belly) so I don't know about it skipping a generation.

A while back I fall down and scraped my leg, I was bleeding and all, but after a while it become a keloid. My parents said it’s because I never cleaned it up with any antiseptic. Since then I am not able to wear mini skirts. But thank you for your bravery.

you are very brave for this. Have you ever heard of a rare condition called NF1 > neurofibromotosis. I also have keloids which got bigger after having children. check it out you may have the same condition.
Was there anyway for you to tell if you have a risk of keloids? My mom wont let me pierce my ears because she thinks I have keloid skin, because she has it and my grandmother has it. But the thing is all my scratches and cuts and abrasions, etc. all heal perfectly normal and flat. When I was little I've slipped and scratched a long scratch down my back on a fence post, it was bleeding through my shirt, and that injury has healed with no indication that it was there.

I had one on my chest like yours and I had it injected with Corticosteroid injections and then I put the silicon sheet to flatten it at the same time. Two injections and two months later it was gone!!
Another thing you can do is get it surgically cut off and then immedietly after start steriod treatment. My bro did that and they didnt come back. But as for on your face, Corticosteroid injection and a silicon sheet it will go away like it never was there almost.
This may sound stupid but the one on your chest looks pretty cool, like an amulet on a necklace without the necklace part. When you bared your shoulder though I winced, our bodies do some pretty cruel things to us sometimes. You should be proud.
I commented this on another video, but I wanted to post this here as well. I've had keloids for 6 years from acne, and nothing I've tried over the years has helped. I found some reviews of this stuff called black keloid paste sold by The Jamu Shop and decided to give it a try, since it wasn't that expensive. It's only been about 2 weeks, but I'm noticing a difference. I also noticed that I have to avoid things I'm allergic to in order for me not to take steps backwards in my progress.

@debobanks Hi deb.. I went for a dose of radiation on the keloids at my neck line. The radiation last about 3 mins.. max!! then went over to have them removed.. 3rd time.. So tomorrow I go back for another dose of radiation.. and then 2xs next week.. a very small dousage to the area,, Docs said it won't go through my body at all. this should kill the problem.. i will lose some hair in that area but will grow back...I hope this is it!!!! keep ya posted..

I wish I could be more like you. I've had Keloids for about 7 or 8 years now... My keloids are all over my shoulders and back, and although a regular tee-shirt will cover them up, they still bring my self-confidence level down. But I guess that's nothing new; Being a teenager in todays society, you almost feel as if you have to be perfect to fit in with everyone else. The only thing that really bothers me is when someone touches me, because I think they will deem me as a freak or something.. :(
A co worker of mine who is drop dead gorgeous has a keyloid on her chest(the same spot as yours)..doesn't bother me at all. She still rocks v neck t shirts. Her infectious personality makes you forget that she has any physical flaws. I don't think there's a guy at my workplace that hasn't had a crush on her at one time or another myself included. The same goes for you. Your attitude and strength along with your cute face makes you attractive.
All I can say is that you are extremely brave and I know the pain of having to explain to others what something is and why but You seem pretty well adjusted. You go girl! Wear your skin proud! I too have keloid scars on my shoulder blades from acne. I also, up until last summer, avoided tank tops and bathing suits. I finally said, screw what others think! I cannot help the way it looks...so I had to learn to just love my body and the scars that come with it :)

Hey girlie!!! I have keloid skin too. Its very hard to treat. I have one on my chest and under my chin. They aren't something to be shamed of. You should use Extra Vigin Olive Oil and Garlic to treat them. I promise this works. Good luck!

There is a way to remove them, theres this study that if you freeze the keloid it will fall off, although your doctor has to freeze it. I recently had a keloid due to a navel piercing but my piercer said to get bayer asprin wet it a little to create a paste and cover your keloid with the paste. I worked for me, it gradually got smaller, and went away. I also used tea tree oil, it helps ALOT. Because a keloid is puss filled and bayer asprin & tea tree oil draws out the puss from the keloid.

I have a four small keloids on my right shoulder. They started out as pimples when I was 25 yrs old and darkened. Now two have joined together and I'm worried that they others may link up and form a larger keloid. Is there anything that can be done to prevent this, that you know of? Also, my grandma had a couple and my dad has a few. My brother and sister both have one tiny keloid (on the forearm and belly) so I don't know about it skipping a generation.

Hi girl, like you I have keloids, the diference is that I have them in mi neck., it's a problem for me because in this zone i don`t have hair (other hair cover that zone), and I must be carrefull to not be notice, You are very brave, and that's admirable, good luck :)

A while back I fall down and scraped my leg, I was bleeding and all, but after a while it become a keloid. My parents said it’s because I never cleaned it up with any antiseptic. Since then I am not able to wear mini skirts. But thank you for your bravery.

you are very brave for this. Have you ever heard of a rare condition called NF1 > neurofibromotosis. I also have keloids which got bigger after having children. check it out you may have the same condition.

Was there anyway for you to tell if you have a risk of keloids? My mom wont let me pierce my ears because she thinks I have keloid skin, because she has it and my grandmother has it. But the thing is all my scratches and cuts and abrasions, etc. all heal perfectly normal and flat. When I was little I've slipped and scratched a long scratch down my back on a fence post, it was bleeding through my shirt, and that injury has healed with no indication that it was there.

I had one on my chest like yours and I had it injected with Corticosteroid injections and then I put the silicon sheet to flatten it at the same time. Two injections and two months later it was gone!!
Another thing you can do is get it surgically cut off and then immedietly after start steriod treatment. My bro did that and they didnt come back. But as for on your face, Corticosteroid injection and a silicon sheet it will go away like it never was there almost.

This may sound stupid but the one on your chest looks pretty cool, like an amulet on a necklace without the necklace part. When you bared your shoulder though I winced, our bodies do some pretty cruel things to us sometimes. You should be proud.

I commented this on another video, but I wanted to post this here as well. I've had keloids for 6 years from acne, and nothing I've tried over the years has helped. I found some reviews of this stuff called black keloid paste sold by The Jamu Shop and decided to give it a try, since it wasn't that expensive. It's only been about 2 weeks, but I'm noticing a difference. I also noticed that I have to avoid things I'm allergic to in order for me not to take steps backwards in my progress.

@debobanks Hi deb.. I went for a dose of radiation on the keloids at my neck line. The radiation last about 3 mins.. max!! then went over to have them removed.. 3rd time.. So tomorrow I go back for another dose of radiation.. and then 2xs next week.. a very small dousage to the area,, Docs said it won't go through my body at all. this should kill the problem.. i will lose some hair in that area but will grow back...I hope this is it!!!! keep ya posted..

I wish I could be more like you. I've had Keloids for about 7 or 8 years now... My keloids are all over my shoulders and back, and although a regular tee-shirt will cover them up, they still bring my self-confidence level down. But I guess that's nothing new; Being a teenager in todays society, you almost feel as if you have to be perfect to fit in with everyone else. The only thing that really bothers me is when someone touches me, because I think they will deem me as a freak or something.. :(

A co worker of mine who is drop dead gorgeous has a keyloid on her chest(the same spot as yours)..doesn't bother me at all. She still rocks v neck t shirts. Her infectious personality makes you forget that she has any physical flaws. I don't think there's a guy at my workplace that hasn't had a crush on her at one time or another myself included. The same goes for you. Your attitude and strength along with your cute face makes you attractive.

All I can say is that you are extremely brave and I know the pain of having to explain to others what something is and why but You seem pretty well adjusted. I have keloids on my face and on my back also and I was extremely disfigured at one time but had an excision done on facial Keloids and it helped dramatically it has een 10 years since but they are returning or I should say growing everytime I cut myself shaving etc...keep on keeping on Much Respect

I used to have big keloids on my ears and i became really self-conscious and at the time there was no one who knew what it was like and i would get tired of people askin what is or sayin ew you have an infection, no i have keloids. I did try injections which did not work and i had lost hope but about a year ago i got the chance to have surgery and im proud to say they have not returned. Just know if you decide to treat them or not you are still beautiful and im glad you made this video

Hello, I used kenalog injections and my keloid is really flat now.
After the keloid is flat your doctor can do the Surgery to remove the keloids. Attention** The surgery should not really be done with the removal of the whole lesion, but instead partially, preserving the edges. Doing this your now flat keloid will be reduced by more than 50% and it will not grow because the edges of the keloid were not cutted!!

You go girl! Wear your skin proud! I too have keloid scars on my shoulder blades from acne. I also, up until last summer, avoided tank tops and bathing suits. I finally said, screw what others think! I cannot help the way it looks...so I had to learn to just love my body and the scars that come with it :)

I have keloids on my chest and shoulders. I had them cut out and removed followed by radiation, but unfortunately they grew back.
I suffer huge amounts of pain with them all the time especially when I'm pregnant. They seem to grow and hurt so much more whilst pregnant.

Find a good plastic surgeon make sure he has free consulation look on line and do your research it's worth it,I had a keloid aslo I had it removed but my doctor sent me to the hospital after the surgery to be given radation for them not to return,I'm fine now,make sure everthing is done right there @ the hospital,you don't have to live with that,I promise

I had keloids that were removed and they never came back and then like an idiot i got my ears pierced and they started getting swollen and i took the earrings out and the swelling went away, then i got pregnant and i started to feel little knots forming where the old piercings were, the holes had closed years ago. Once i had the baby they went away completely...whew! Pregnant again and the knots started forming and got even bigger after i had the baby!

wow, i'm so inspired by you. i'm in high school, and every girl has perfect skin. but i'm the only one with some bacne and a couple keloids on my back (they're not too big, a couple of them look like acne, one is the size of a dime, and one is the size of an eraser head)
