  • Why do you minus 3 from each side? why 3, why minus anything, and then why are there fractions all of the sudden? im lost

  • We are making a table that shows ordered pairs that are solutions to the linear equation in two variables. I picked the numbers at random. When I said, "what if y = -7?" That basically means, if I plug in a (-7) for y, what value does x have to be to get a true statement.

    We started with the equation: y=2x+3

    step 1: replace y with (-7) so now

    -7=2x+3

    step 2: isolate the x variable, this means we need to eliminate the 3 on the right side first, since it is added to x

    -7-3=2x-3+3

    -10=2x

    x=-5
