@apocalypsebr1 They probably range from 11-17 inches, females are much smaller than males. They need at least a 50 gallon enclosure because they are larger than the green/brown anoles.
@apocalypsebr1@apocalypsebr1 No problem! :) 20 gal is fine for a couple months maybe, they grow really fast. It seems to me like their whole personality changes when they are in a large enclosure. They are much more happy and relaxed. In a small enclosure, they are constantly in "stress mode". I made a short write-up, go to the address in the info area right under the video, it gives some care suggestions. And feel free to pm me with questions, these are one of my favorite reptiles.
@Rubixite not that you don't seem to know what your talking about but my knight anole is different than most. I had him for 7 or 8 months now and he's about 8-9 inches, and he is ok when I handle him though I'm not sure I'd let him run about my home yet! What are your thoughts?
@hughjass812 They are much more calm and will tolerate handling a lot more easily when you get them young. It sounds like you got him when he was very young if he's still that small. Most people only have the opportunity to buy wild caught adults which is unfortunate. Let him run around! Although you might want to keep it in a closed room so it doesn't go too far. They'll usually just find the tallest thing in the room and head upwards.
can you please help me i just got mine today and he (looks wild caught) how could i tame him or her and do you also know how to distinguish their sex ?
@hubjubjub Well I've had her for years and I got her when she was young, so that helps. I don't actually take her out much, she likes to just hang out in her cage. When I do pick her up, I gently move my hand under her front legs and let her just sit on my hand, chasing & grabbing them will stress them out. They are not known for their tameness, some won't ever mellow down.
I bought one instead of catching one and he's in a 90 gallon cage is that okay? I'm probably just gonna let him go because he was wild caught in the first place
@hubjubjub Yeah 90 is great! They can be a little bit shy, especially the wild-caught ones, so they like having lots of plants and branches to hide behind and climb around it. Well, you know how it is, I'm sure they are often up the tree tops around your place, but you rarely get to see them. Most are wild-caught, it's sad. They are cheap so no one really bothers to breed them. I just got a male for the female in this video, so maybe I'll get babies in the future, we'll see! :)
@hubjubjub If you want a tame lizard, don't get one of these. If you already have one of these, just be nice to it. Don't chase it around the cage, take it out slowly, and let it sit on your hand, don't "capture" it. If you're slow and gentle with it, eventually they'll calm down, but they don't really get "tame", persay.
@hubjubjub Oh leave it in your yard, you'll probably get to see it a lot! They get really miserable when you put them in captivity. Also they need a really large cage, at least 50 gallons & 2 ft tall, also they don't really like glass. They are much happier out in your yard. Wild caught ones will usually bite a lot (yes - blood) and can carry a lot of parasites as well.
@djmitchell13 Green anoles and knight anoles are just two of the nearly 400 species of anoles. There are many differences among all the species. Most noticeably, knight anoles are larger than the green/brown anoles.
@rastakid420 Some are, if you get them when they are young, they are a lot easier to tame. I have one, but i ddi get him when he was older, and he is easily frightened, but it getting better. And they can bite sometimes.
@rastakid420 No, they don't calm down well at all. Leopard geckos are great, also check out crested geckos and gargoyle geckos. They are larger than the green anoles and they have very nice personalities. They also come in a large range of really awesome colors, and don't need huge cages like the knight anoles.
I'm considering getting a few knight anoles. what edvice can you give me? and how hard are they to tame? By the way, yours looks very pretty and healthy!!!
@ReptileGirlGecko She's used to me somewhat... prefers not be handled though. She loves getting out and exploring, and it doesn't seem to bother her too much if I'm around.
@xTriKzZTa Yes they are usually very nasty and can deliver some very good bites! You shouldn't have it housed with a gecko though. It's not good for either, and one will frequently die.
@Meticullamaster It's 24x18x24. Almost 50 gallons I think it works out to. I also have a 24x24x48 which she likes a lot better. They like a lot of vertical height.
@trachlan They need at least a 50 gallon. With lots of vertical space too, 2 feet tall at least. They do best in a very large enclosure up to 4 feet tall.
@hubjubjub Most pet store sell them occasionally, but is better to find one that has been born into captivity. They don't always adjust well to a cage if they are used to being outside. Captive bred ones are usually a lot healthier too.
Yeah most are nasty little critters. She's bit me a few times... she's got a decent chomp.
15 gal is way too small!! You need to give them some room to jump around lol. 50 gallons minimum is recommended. Check Craigslist if you live in a convenient area... there's a lot for cheap right now.
How in the world did you get it so calm??..
mine only grew from about 7-8 inches before it died.. :c
