This is an interesting conversation as they all make good points. I would like to see them discuss the bias against white running backs and cornerbacks sometime. That's something you don't hear much about, but how many times does a white running back get moved to fullback, or a white corner get moved to safety? It happens just like the black QB being moved to another position.

White players face the same problems at the other positions. Running back, wide out, etc... you don't see any of those guys coming on espn crying about it. If your white, and you don't have the genetic makeup to be a tall outside receiver you can forget about being a receiver in the league. Same goes for running back. unless you are an absolute stud you'll never be anything more than a blocking back in the NFL. The biased works both ways and if anything its more partial to the black athletes.

Unlike most of the other mobile QBs in NFL history, Tebow doesn't try to avoid contact. At some point, he's gonna get LIT UP. Steve Grogan was a runner--though with a totally different body type from Tebow--when he came into the league. After having his skeletal system re-arranged, though, Grogan had to become a classic dropback passer.

Even now, I'd take Brooks over some of the backups and even a few current starters: Derek Anderson, Marc Sanchez, Bruce Gradkowski, Shaun Hill, Matt Leinart, ANY Redskins QB, etc. I can only think of one black non-starter who had a long career: Rodney Peete (for some strange reason), and I'd say he was one of the less talented black QBs.

As Kordell said, Tebow's skill set in years past was seen as a DETRIMENT; now all of a sudden it's something that's "going to change the game", "something that breaks the mold." Why? @pollutedprophet The game hasn't changed much in the last 10 years. Truthfully, the last major change as I see it was when Randall Cunningham showed...almost 30 years ago. Super Bowl winning QBs usually DID have good arms AND feet: Staubach, Theisman, Montana (although no one but me seems to remember), Steve Young, Bradshaw, HOSTETLER, and ELWAY...ALL of those guys had good mobility (though not all were considered "runners"). And none of them were in the league 10 years ago.
the only thing the last played is that John Fox can't call offensive plays. The same conservative run run throw on 3rd and long is 70's football. Thats how he was in Carolina. The only difference is that they threw in one wrinkle, one single option play. If you want to run the option FINE, but there is more to the option game than the one play they went to over and over again. If Oregon ran that type of offense theyd go winless.

White players face the same problems at the other positions. Running back, wide out, etc... you don't see any of those guys coming on espn crying about it. If your white, and you don't have the genetic makeup to be a tall outside receiver you can forget about being a receiver in the league. Same goes for running back. unless you are an absolute stud you'll never be anything more than a blocking back in the NFL. The biased works both ways and if anything its more partial to the black athletes.

Despite all the vitriol against Tebow, one thing IS certain. He is going to have to learn how to play NFL at some point. Unlike most of the other mobile QBs in NFL history, Tebow doesn't try to avoid contact. At some point, he's gonna get LIT UP. Steve Grogan was a runner--though with a totally different body type from Tebow--when he came into the league. After having his skeletal system re-arranged, though, Grogan had to become a classic dropback passer.

Even now, I'd take Brooks over some of the backups and even a few current starters: Derek Anderson, Marc Sanchez, Bruce Gradkowski, Shaun Hill, Matt Leinart, ANY Redskins QB, etc. I can only think of one black non-starter who had a long career: Rodney Peete (for some strange reason), and I'd say he was one of the less talented black QBs.

@sugarcubicle It was NEVER quite that easy for the QB in THIS clip: Kordell Stewart. In his case, his critics were all saying the team won IN SPITE of him...never mind that he accounted for 32 TDs in a season once. He was an a'ight QB...who vacillated between being incredibly spectacular and incredibly BAD. Consistency was always his biggest issue. Point blank, though, what you're saying isn't true, if there's one guy who knows it, it's Kordell Stewart!

@Odawg96 It hasnt been "easy" for Tebow, he wasnt given the starting job for showing up, he only got it when Orton screwed around and lost 4 of 5. Even now, his position as starter isnt secure. I'd say (except for the religion controversy) Tebow and 'Slash' are treated roughly the same.
The whole idea that white people just hype him up because he is white is insane. White people have legit QBs to hype up, guys who deserve it. Its like accusing black people of hyping a mediocre RB.

@sugarcubicle I didn't say it was all that easy for Tebow, but I DO feel like he was handed the reigns in Denver. And I do believe that this is the most OVERBLOWN hype I've ever seen. There was hype about Kordell but not so much about his QB play and definitely NOT for reasons off the field. Tebow's gotten too much credit. Truthfully, it's a lot like Elvis Presley: Tebow is doing what many other black people before him have done, but for some reason, he's been annointed.

@sugarcubicle I'm referring SPECIFICALLY to Tebow's style of play, nothing else. As Kordell said, Tebow's skill set in years past was seen as a DETRIMENT; now all of a sudden it's something that's "going to change the game", "something that breaks the mold." Why? That's the question that no one wants to answer honestly. That skill set was seen as a detriment to most black QBs (Briscoe, Cunningham, Evans, Stewart, etc.) and even some white ones (Steve Young and Tarkenton).

They tried to move Tebow at every level. 10 years ago Marino, and Moon were the ideal QB's statues with big arms. Today, you need feet like Rodgers or Brady but even with that said Tebow's style still is viewed as a detriment! how many people think he doesn't belong in this league? They're ultimately gonna be right. Lets face it, but as long as he is winning ride the wave. It won't last forever tho

@pollutedprophet The game hasn't changed much in the last 10 years. Truthfully, the last major change as I see it was when Randall Cunningham showed...almost 30 years ago. Super Bowl winning QBs usually DID have good arms AND feet: Staubach, Theisman, Montana (although no one but me seems to remember), Steve Young, Bradshaw, HOSTETLER, and ELWAY...ALL of those guys had good mobility (though not all were considered "runners"). And none of them were in the league 10 years ago.

the only thing the last played is that John Fox can't call offensive plays. The same conservative run run throw on 3rd and long is 70's football. Thats how he was in Carolina. The only difference is that they threw in one wrinkle, one single option play. If you want to run the option FINE, but there is more to the option game than the one play they went to over and over again. If Oregon ran that type of offense theyd go winless.

Its kind of tough to be 1-4 and keep a Heisman winning, two time College Champ sitting on the bench. His entry into the NFL and his chance as starter are justified. His insane popularity is not.

Tebow has a long way to go, probably will flame out sometime next year. But he was giving a chance because he had college resume that very few have. Two national championships while playing in the toughest conference in college football and arguably one of the best college careers ever. As far as Kordell, is he complaining that he wasn't given a fair shot ? The guy started 87 games over a 10 year career while being a gigantic pain in the azz to work with. He was'nt half as good as he thought
