So many reasons i love this show,..Nicholas Lyndhurst coupled with my fascination with World War 2....and a definate air of the nineties all in one programme!
Ok, so I started watching the series 9 days ago, finished ALL 6 series, and am now starting again, great escapism!! Thanks for uploadnig :D and thanks Neonkt for the rest if you get to read this!!

I'm not even 30 and I'm already looking back.I wonder how i will be in another 15yrs. Good oldschool show tho. Peace
@HumanRaceOfYourKnees The 90s were a period signified crappy techno, indie games, the death of classic rock, and as that annoying time in which people who had left the 80s were waiting for the 2000s to begin.
@HaniiPuppy Nirvana, Oasis, Blur, myself and others would disagree. Conversely, I can find almost nothing from the 80s musically which to me is more than passable.
Final episode is shown again on ITV2 this Wednesday folks. That episode always reminds me of the movie 'Frequency' with Dennis Quaid. Hankies at the ready...
@fallios Yes there would've been a point when he was in both at the same time but OFAH was on its way out at the time, only doing the xmas specials I think.
god, why why why why why !!!!!!!!!!! I can't stop watching goodnight sweetheart. I think this is the 6 or 7th time in a row. Thanks for uploading these, great stufff
Just finished watching all 6 series of this superb program on here. I never appreciated how excellent it truly was, and how every episode is interlinked. True masterpiece and worth watching
Sorree but I LUV "Rodney" inna nice suit! Yesh yesh I know this ain't OFAH but seein'em inna delivery fella's uniform just put me in mind ... it's ok, .I'm justa ol' lady.
Its funny how they made Yvonne more and more horrible as the series progressed. Maybe so the viewers didn't end up disliking gary... At the start she is quite nice to him
watch this everyday on itv 3i lyk the last one they made i think myself thats the best one but enjoyed all ov dem good show should make more shows lyk this beatie(lee)
I remember an episode where something went amiss with the time portal and we see wartime Phoebe appearing from the back shop doorway in the present day- the studio audience went crazy!! It was soooo great; i loved this show :)
I remember watching this when i was a kid growing up. I forgot all about it till i saw it on TV the other day.
I used to love it when i was younger but i can't remember much of the storylines cos i was that young before but i remember it was really good and the one i watched on TV the other day was still good now when i watched it :D
So ordered couple of series on dvd ;)
"SETHGITTE" God you really don't like Nick Lyndhurst do you! Some harsh things you have said there, Jealous now are we?!
Nick lyndhirst. Nick the prick I call him. Had his only fine moment in Only Fools and Horses when he played Dleboy's bitch. He has no talent, and he is too tall and gangly to be a proper actor. He also has the face of a packet of cheese and onion Walkers crisps.
Amazingly the Ford Escort Van seen in this episode was still in use until march this year. The enquiry is complete The vehicle details for K554 CRX are: Date of Liability 01 03 2009 01 03 2009 Date of First Registration 29 10 1992 Year of Manufacture 1992 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1391CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour SILVER Vehicle Type Approval null
i always wonderd whot it would be like to go back in time to something like the war but i dont think it was just as great as we all think just listen to that comedian that said he had a dreafull time and all the peaple being bombed all the time .but i would love to see gary come back in just one episode just to see how things got on for him and his wife after all this time they should bring it back time for a potition i think haha
This new series caught my attention straight away-I love anything to do with time travel as long as its not too far fetched-But what lets it down for me is-Why is Gary the only one that can go back and forward in time? And to top it all-he has a mate that has his own printing firm and is capable of printing off as many fake fivers for Gary whenever he asks.
Goodnight Sweetheart is my favourite sitcom. For me it wasn't always hilariously funny but it's so easy and relaxing to watch. The overall time travel concept in it is highly original and when I first watched it in the mid 1990's it was this that drew me in. Watching these episodes again has also made me think that Nicholas Lyndhurst would make a very good Doctor Who. Thank you to you and the other users who posted every episode of this wonderful TV show. Good job! :)
Same here - I didn't simply watch it for the comedy side of things, I enjoyed seeing the re-enactment of London life in the early 1940s; history has always been a subject of great interest to me, especially social history.
However, Nicholas Lindhurst as much as I like him, comes across as a little bit of a weak actor. It suits him great in Only Fools, but he just doesn't fill the criteria for me - always seems a bit hesitant and nervous on set. He's still a great all-round bloke though!!
In the last episode Gary is back in 1945, unfortunately when he trys to return to the present the portal is closed. So he is stuck in 1945.
In the present Ron tells Yvonne the truth - which incredibly she believes. The last scene sees Yvonne standing in the ally in the present - while Gary is standing in the same ally in the past.
He didn't choose to stay, he bottled out at the last minute and chose to abandon Phoebe and his son to go back to Yvonne. However, when he got to the portal he was too late; it had closed. He was left in 1945 as Shoulder says, forced to take responsibility for the family he started.
yeah but he didnt choose to abandon pheobe either, he was just going to keep on as he was, going between the two. but then like you say he was forced to stay in 1945.
He stopped an assasination attempt on someone, and later on hen he tried to get back the portal was gone, and that the reason he got sent back in time was to stop the assasination.
one minor mistake in this is we believe Gary first meets Ron at the party but in the next episode we are led to believe theyve been friends for ages, but this especially the first 23 series was brilliant.Thought Reg and Ron were as much stars as Gary, phoebe and Yvonne
i used to watch it when it was very first on! lol, thensome repetes recently lead me to find them here on youtube, and ive been watching them here...for a few hours lol, how about you?
i sort of started to watch some of dervla's old works after she was on doctor who's christmas special last year and found this..got hooked..i watched up till series 3 here and spent literally hours on youtube..good show..but found it silly after they changed the actress' though..
i didnt realise that,im going to go back and look at it again! haha
it is strange when people suddenly swap people to play the same part, sometimes it can destroy a show, but it went on for 6 series! haha so it couldnt have been that bad a change,im sure she had her reasons for leaving=[
ive been watching it all here but im only up to the first episode of series 3 haha,i remember a laterone with noel coward and he is trying to stop his picture being taken,i think thats my fav
Which one? There were two Yvonnes; the first one I think was Michelle Holmes but can't remember the other one. They also recast Phoebe- originally Dervla Kirwan and later played by Elizabeth Carling. Does anyone know if the changeover happened at the same time?
I just noticed that Nicolas Lyndhurst has a strong cockney accent in the first episode which he drops in later ones. By the next series he's completely middle class - different from Phoebe, who remains east end throughout.
Unfortunately not. I don't know why, except that it seems to have only gotten a limited viewing by PBS stations, so they may figure it wouldn't be a popular choice. I don't even think BBC America has run it.
In the last episode of series 2 construction is seen as the old buildings in that area are taken down to make way for the new 'modern' shops. In the Christmas Special (between series 2 and 3) is when Gary rents the shop that has the portal out the back and this remains until the end of series 6.
I had a thought today. Well you know how Gary steps into victorian England in series 6 and you know Gary gets stuck in the 1940s at the end. Well when he stumbled on the victorian era he came from the 40s - not the 90s. So he may be still able to do that. if this was a spin off then he would be going back to see yvone lookalike and it would be full circle, imagine how screwed garys head would be then.
It wud be great if they brough it bk for onwe mroe series but at same time it cud spoil it. timeportal shut n thats how itb shud be left. not giving too much away if u never seen it b4. but it wud probably spol if new series
I Love Goodnight Sweetheart , Dervla Kirwan steals the show so the transition between series 3 & 4 is difficult but still good. This is also an excellent progression for Nicolas Lyndhurst . Thanks for posting this great show.
By the way, am I the only one who loves Yvonne as much as Phoebe.
Phoebe depends on Gary much more but Yvonne is more independent.
I loved Dervla Kirwan and Michelle Holmes!! Great Actresses!!

This programme is truely...terrible and Gary Sparrow is behind every atrocity ever.

Why oh why can't I find an alleyway that leads straight back into the 60s!!!!

I just noticed that Nicolas Lyndhurst has a strong cockney accent in the first episode which he drops in later ones. By the next series he's completely middle class - different from Phoebe, who remains east end throughout.

No he doesn't.

British television is categorically more inventive, and this series is a great example of that fact.

Is this available on DVD in America?

Unfortunately not. I don't know why, except that it seems to have only gotten a limited viewing by PBS stations, so they may figure it wouldn't be a popular choice. I don't even think BBC America has run it.

how did the entrance portal change from down that alley, to the back of his shop?
CharlieSlater 3 years ago

A ridiculous plot, but so brillantly scripted and acted by some top people that it became a cult hit. Absolutely loved it!

I often thought it might be interesting if Yvonne, once she knows the truth, seeks Gary out as an OAP.

I Love Goodnight Sweetheart , Dervla Kirwan steals the show so the transition between series 3 & 4 is difficult but still good. This is also an excellent progression for Nicolas Lyndhurst . Thanks for posting this great show.
