haha Feng I was just taking notes on the techniques you used to practice, and when I got up to the skeletal/muscle system drawing of existing animals/people I summarized it as 'Using photos of animals/people and reverse engineering them and drawing the skeleton & muscles inside...'. Then a few seconds later you said 'I find it quite fun, because you're almost reverse engineering a design...'.
How do you paint something in photoshop only with values and without even using many layers? I tried to but colours seem to stack and after a few brush strokes it's impossible to continue without a new layer....
What do you mean? You just correct the wrong value by painting over that value with the correct one. Or painting the wrong color with the correct one.
It was my fault. I have changed the settings of brush paint by mistake and after I realized it and swift it back to normal, brush strokes stack correctly now.

In those photo studies, do you sample the colors/values or pick them completely by yourself?
