fry a hard drive, then fry a DVD, then fry an old computer with so many problems that its not worth fixing. I would say fry it while its running but you dont want this here high voltage running thru the AC mains.

The worst thing that could have happened was that the metal casing go so hot that it ruined the stuff inside, since it acted as a Faraday shield.
