I have found that to get an awesome sound out of this, or most octave pedals, is that you have to run it thru another fuzz or overdrive. If you blend them properly, it sounds stellar.
we all live in the era now of accountants and bean counters and people who trully know nothing of the products their trying to pedal to us pardon the .......... anyway its never about how good a product trully is its more about how many units can we move wether the prduct is good or not who really cares everything gets discontinued after its no longer flavour of the second and well it all ends up on evilbay anyway if you lived in a era where people cared you would know the difference

It'll sound better if you turn the volume all the way up... And it has nothing to do with Jimi Hendrix, or even come close to his sound... I like this pedal.
I have one in parts somewhere. . . it broke. . I took a look inside and never came up with the interest in putting it back together. The Octavia seems to be the way to go.
Hendrix is the only guitarist who had enough talent to make these actually sound musical. Hendrix wanabes stay away--or risk sending your audience scurrying for the exits!
THE ONLY REASON THIS PEDAL SOUNDS BAD IS BECAUSE HE DOESNT KNOW HOW TO USE IT. I had this pedal a couple years ago and it was awesome. Set the volume to 1 o'clock and tone to 7-9 o'clock and there you go! the classic Jimi octavio sound!!
And it sounds good with another Overdrive BEFORE not AFTER it!! Bad demo is all.
@Euphoriaman... and that is only a part of the story. Can't believe that some people here don't even take into consideretion the rest of the set-up... P90? well, maybe why not, but then... wich amp... and what about the position of the microphone and bla bla bla. these vids, most of them, can show only 10% of what you can acheive with that pedal or that guitar... the rest is up to your intuition and experience... and taste. Great pedal and, at least, decent demo!
Well I like the sound of the Fulltone ultimate octave. I also watched a few more demos on youtube. So when I saw an octave fuzz pedal in my local music shop i had to try it. Was very disappointed it was so harsh and shrill. Even with the tone knob on my strat at 1 it was still too harsh. The fulltone i would say is definately worth the extra cash.
Do you mean awful compared to other octave fuzzes such as the Fulltone Octafuzz, the Voodoo Lab Proctavia and the Dunlup Octavio or don't you like the octave fuzz effect in general, cause it is so weird?
Octave effects work best when the guitar's tone control is on zero, sounds like he's got the guitar tone on full so you don't get hte octave. And who the hell demos a Hendrix pedal on a Tele with P90s ? And the guitar is terribly out of tune. Typical Queerwire review LOL. Oh well at least he didn't spend the first two minutes opening the box and talking about the packaging and warranty card like that other Queerwire dude.
It clips the signal hard against the transistors to produce fuzz, then rectifies it through a transformer to add an overtone one octave above the original note. It doesn't exactly produce a second note, unless you give it a very pure signal and then reduce the amount of fuzz dramatically (usually by lowering your guitar volume). What it does is create a strong harmonic in the distortion that produces a particularly nasty fuzz. It's the same principle as a Superfuzz, just more mellow.
This might have worked had he cranked the Bassman. It should have enough low end to give this a good sound, but he barely has it turned up. He's not giving the amp a chance to give the pedal a chance. I am a Fender guy myself. I have this pedal, and my Fender Deluxe just doesn't have enough gain, even at high volumes. When I put this in front of my Vox Valvetronix (It accepts pedals well, surprisingly) on UK 70's and give it just enough gain this pedal will take off.
very ugly sound. its simply not nice in anyway really. If you can play, like jimi did, it maybe fine, but its simply not nice and hardly ever used by anyone because of this, a gimmick more than not.
I'm sure that if this guy knew how to use this pedal he'd get a nice tone. For one, he says himself its supposed to be used on an overdriven amp. Two, he boosts the treble super high. Even when he uses Tube Screamer he puts the tone control all the way up! He's playing on a telecaster, one of the trebliest guitars ever! Three, I could be wrong about this, but fender amps are notorious about having ugly preamp gain, and with the volume low like this he's probably overdriving the preamp.
I have this extra pedal, but this guy should use cranked amp and play on neck pickup, near 10-17 frets. This pedal is the best for solo, not for chords
Very dufficult to hear a not-annoing sound of this - in this clip. Maybe from the amp? Always the tech21 and not a tube amp, always to much highs and treble...
I don't think it's the pedal's fault. He didn't set it up right and worst of not playing it right. Of course if you are not the fan of Jimmy sound, there's nothing we can say to mend the situation... ;-)
