  • The ps3 version doesn't support 2 player play which sucks donkey balls, actually none of the SNK minis support true simultaneous 2 player play which is stupid.

  • these guys were soo bad ass that they got teleported to another world to fight a babbling rock head, in the sequel.

  • This game is fuckin' hard!

  • I loved this arcade game, 2player was awesome. I never made it to the helicopter though, way too hard...Commando was also good! Double dragon, original Street fighter, Rampage, Shinobi, Golden axe, Gauntlet, Atered beast, Robocop...

  • Fuck this game. The control is WORSE than dragon's lair, and I am not even kidding. The simple act of turning around feels like you're in a semi-truck trying to do a U-turn indoors. You walk slow, and I mean SLOW. Like, Uncle Fester could take a nap and 3 shits in a race with you and he'd still win, even with the poison debuff. Of course, the enemies are TWICE as fast, and the projectiles are even faster. On top of that, you get 3 lives, NO continues, and you die in one hit. GOOD LUCK!

  • A-B-B-A = Eternal life =)

  • the arcade versions of this and time soldiers was my shit back in the day.

  • @thekrinker thats funny cus i had the arcade before and sold it and i thought it was fun. then again i was like 4

  • Actually, the arcade version of this has just been released as a PS3 mini on PSN, and I'd imagine it's got a port to XBLA now, too. Still handles a little wonky, as L/R rotates your character, and man, is it BRUTAL.

While the NES port was somewhat beatable, unless somehow you got spawn-stuck in the center and unable to move during that part where you move through the side gaps of the fort walls (breaking bug!), the arcade version is a quarter-munching nightmare...

  • ... Between the infalliable numbers of enemies, and how beefed up most of them are/were (ones armed with Super Grenades, especially), there are some sections that are absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to get through without simply quarter-grinding your way through them. And the side-oriented arrow traps seem both invincible and undodgable; there's no way you'll move through them quick enough to escape being killed, and there's no break in their firing rate either.

    It's still fun, though.

  • Where is Ralf and Clark and Leona?

  • Better off as a Virtual Console Arcade version for the Wii.

  • The one big thing I like about shows like this is that they show what the game is and how the gameplay works. When I see a game in a used game store and never heard of it, this show and others like it help me get an idea as to whether or not you would be interested in it. For example, I've been watching this one now and having seen a few copies around in a few stores in my area, I think I may go buy this game at some point, thanks to this review. It seems interesting.

  • You can get the arcade version of this game on PSN now!

  • Comment removed

  • feel stupid. never heard of this. cod roots haha

  • @nschuel

    Seriously?

  • Ikari III is actually good.

  • 1:42

SEE I TOLD YOU TANK BEATS EVERYTHING

  • playstation blog just said this game is coming out on july 19th it says it will be one of the minis but idk if iyt will be the old school one or what.

  • One of my favorite games as a kid, why isn't it on Wii VC yet?

  • Judging from how well duke nukem did I suppose not but then again we should give serious sam a chance at bat if serious sam does well then we should the door for ikari warriors will be opened.

  • On PSN on 7/19. :D

  • I had this on C64 back in the day, fucking loved it but it was crazy hard.

  • this was the "call of duty" of the day, this game was AWESOME!!!

  • great game

  • I liked Guerilla War better but this was a good game too.

  • i like Guerrilla War better

Better powerups, tanks, levels, graphics, and overall movement is better. This ones good too though

  • @SolidSnake684 Guerrilla War destroys Ikari Warriors. That is my go to game for shooting everything that moves. That flamethrower rocks!

  • @glitchedgamer i know man the flame thrower kicks ASS

much better than the piece of crap flamethrower in Contra

  • there is a rare overlooked coin-op version, the gameplay is unique

the rare controls seem to be gone....

  • i have the game for the nes and it is good

  • Ikari Warriors... :*-)

  • I prefer Guerilla War. The same top-view running, gunning, getting into tanks gameplay, but much better.

  • @icgd1337r Yeah, and it had better hardware for the arcade than Ikari Warriors.

  • @icgd1337r Absolutely. I remember Guerrilla War being the business back in the day. The original Ikari just looks too stark. 2 and 3 were pretty good, though.

  • sandly the IKARI WORIORS team united with the METAL SLUG team in the last 3 metal slug games

  • @CaptainPoovabladoo it would be better if clark had his sunglases

  • I spent $2 on part II. It was HORRIBLE! I gotta get my hands on part 1. My step cousin had it and it rocked hard back in the day.

  • @WebVMan That is because Micronics developed it for SNK on the NES.

  • ABBA? Mamma Mia! It gives you lives!

  • Maybe this question has been asked a million times before, but when I had this game as a kid (1986ish) I , (like many others) got to the very end of the game, only to find that the road stopped. In other words, I dead ended . I was alive, all enemies dead, but there I stood, after killing off the "main bad guy"..no where else to go...I had to just turn off the game. No announcement that I had won or anything...just sat there...

  • It is so sad. He can walk in the water but the tank can't? That sucks!

  • ...I can't stand the way you're pronouncing Ikari. It's ICK-AH-RYE, not ick-ary or whatever it is you're saying. Jeez.

  • this game was so bad ass! the nes version was awesome. too bad the nes sequel was jacked up.

  • he didnt mention smash tv about the move one way and shoot the other

  • how long do the enemies reel back for after being blasted hehe

  • Back when Ralf and Clark were known as Paul and Vince in the American version for the NES.

  • Ikari wariors is one of my favourite retro games. I most enjoy playing it on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, the rubber keys and joystick are a great combination.

  • Played the crap outta this game in co op mode.. abba start.

  • Awww ABBA, that code saved my life many of times

  • Every time I almost beat this game I'd get stuck due to a glitch and it was great. With ABBA you could keep going, but it was only a matter of time before you got glitch-fucked.

  • just like gorila war

  • Review the Atari 7800 version :D

  • The Atari ST version wasn't bad, but not great either, what I found best for some reason was the Amstrad 464CPC version. No idea why.

Both of which look different from this NES version. Not necessarily better graphics, but the maps feel different and there are IIRC, less objects in this version.

  • Great memories i remember playing this game for hours on end with my little sister. come to think of it though we never did beat the game, always got stuck in one of the walls. Gotta love the nintendo gliches.

  • @TortureFromWithin I even tried to beat the game with game genie codes. I ended up getting very far in the game and then getting stuck in a wall after dying. Lol. I wasn't happy either. I feel your pain.

  • I Hate Hotcakes it sounds painful -.-

  • I had this game, but for the 2600. Now THAT was a BITCH to play! The control stick only shot diagonaly 50% of the time! But what a game huh? I was such a manly figure!

  • It looks like when you defeat an enemy they do the hammer dance.

  • Guerrilla war by SNK on the NES was much better

  • Actually that's where from SNK brought Ralf & Clark characters of KOF series :)

  • This game rocks. Check out my Rock Version of IKARI WARRIORS

  • ralf and clark ftw wish leona was in it

  • i thought this said iraqi warriors

  • @ajbalagtas ha, that would be so funny though. Can you imagine, little turbin warriors

  • I have Guerrilla War, Its part of this series only you are Cuban and have infinite lives.

  • i have this game

  • Hi what's the name of the song at 00:11? sounds nice

  • yeah, me and my buddy played this all the time when I was a kid; you're so right though, it has not aged well. I have no idea why we played it so much. possibly because the "meatheads with bandanas and machine guns" theme was really, well, pretty cool when you're like 8.

  • I personally like Heavy Barrel a lot better

  • An nes game where you play as a shirtless guy with a bandana and a machine gun....that's great SNK but i have to be honest Konami made a game with a very similar concept that was a whole lot better.

  • I'd love to see this game with updated graphics sort of like what they did with Bionic Commando, maybe they could call it Ikari Warriors Reloaded or Rearmed or something like that.

  • Good memories. As a kid, me and dad could play this title for hours each night. (Though, it took Jetboot Jack for him to play without me around.) And, I do agree...if Contra can get modern games, Ikari is well overdue.

  • are Clark and Ralf - king of fighters(neo geo mvs) !!!!!!!!!

  • The arcade version is awesome. The NES version... not so much...

  • Great review I really enjoy it..

  • Lol, I got this game yesterday for 1.2 dollars, totally underpriced, while I got Dragon warrior 2-3 for 6 dollars each. (I live in japan.)

  • i have that game...i like it....the red dude looks like my uncle...except that my uncle got fat not too long ago :D

  • Is there anyone on this planet who can beat Ikari Warriors without using any cheats or codes (including the ABBA continue code)?

  • I love this game its so awesome i have it for nes

  • One thing thats cheesy, is the fact that the dude with the red bandana has a gay cop mustache.

  • snk moved their ikari warriors characters to good games like metal slug and kof. This game sucked back when it was new and it still sucks.

  • @syxx573 You are a faggot who sucks at it

  • As someone who has no nostalgia clouding their opinion, I gotta say: THIS GAME SUCKS. Well, at least the NES version does.

  • I'm probably one of the few people out there who liked Ikari Warriors I and II for the NES.

  • ahhh, the memories staying up with my brother trying to beat this game. the music is so retro. haha.

  • galactica phantom! ralph jones!! meet the king of fighters with clark steel!!

  • There were this cheat to have unlimited lives. It was pretty easy...like just pressin ababab or like. :)

  • I'd like to see someone complete this game using just the first set of lives/guys you get. I remember using the "continue trick" over and over and over and sometimes getting stuck behind some of the walls with no enemies to kill me... then you had to wait for the missiles to come flying at you and you BEGGED to get hit, sometimes you did, and sometimes not.

  • lol whats with the death animations

  • This brings back some memories! Hot game in the neighborhood growing up.

  • this NES version really sucks compared to the Amstrad CPC 464 one.

All elements are ugly: character, the tank the colors, the way the ennemies die...

  • @tetohmu I liked the Atari 2600 version of this game.

  • Wow, I haven't seen this game since 1987 and it's amazing how the memory I have of it is so different. Back then this was considered quality graffics & the truth is that we all loved it & played for hours & hours. What was good about this game was that you could play doubles and it was perfect. I can remember playing with my best friend at the time. The good old days when nintendo ruled the world. I miss those days a lot but now it just wouldn't measure up to our advanced brains.

  • It's funny how now this game looks so fake and stupid. It's truly amazing how technology works with the mind. I bet twenty five years from now the games today will seem so small and unappealing compared to the games they will have in that future. Can you imagine the virtual reality games that we will be able to hook up our heads to. It could easily become like the movie The Matrix. Or like Star Treks Hollow deck. It's truly amazing how much games have improved and they keep improving.

  • @demiandarko1 what crazy shit did you smoke and how the hell did you get 7 thumps?? how does this game look fake???

  • Retro...loved this game when i found it in the arcade....wonder if Nintendo have it on the Wii online back catalogue

  • @noelio67 probably not since it's made by SNK and they like to kiss microsfot's ass.

  • god this looks like shit

  • ikari warriors 2 and 3 stank

  • Actually, I don't want to bother looking through the comments if someone mentioned this. But the protagonists of this game, Clark in blue, and Ralph in red, did make the roster for playable characters in Metal Slug 6 & 7.

  • Good nitpick man....well noticed

  • Oh god yes I agree the new controllers would make for a better Ikari Warriors...

This was the first game I bought when I bought my NES, they where out of the systems that had SMB and I couldn't wait any longer lol

Honestly I felt kind of ripped off when I bought it on the NES the game is great the controls are what was the let down.. Heavy Barrel is very close you might like that one too. or Jackal or Time Soldiers.

Anyway MAME FTW ;) and thanks for the memories! Good review !!!

  • like contra

  • ralf kof?¿

  • i have this on dreamcast, hehehe :)

  • no interlaceing when playing on a amstrad system ;)

Or: use a good emulator! :)

BTW: you are so right :D it was the greatest game.. i played it 1000000 times =)

  • i don't think anyone beat the entire game without using the code...fuckin' extremely difficult, some would say impoosible

i remember at five years old listening to the game music, while my older bro. died continuously

  • It's time for more brainiacs with phasers and sweater vests, don't you think?

  • ABBA when you completly die it adds more lives

  • @jubei455 like what? you just listen to dancing queen or somthing and the game gives you more lives? sweet

  • @josher2021 thats what u press when u want more lives when you die on this game A B B A

  • @jubei455 yes I was making a joke you see, the band that sings dancing queen is call ABBA

  • @josher2021 i know they used that in a code video

  • @jubei455 then why are you commenting me back, do you really trhink im that stupid to assume that abba isnt a button combination

  • I have to say as far as NES games where the heroes are shirtless men with bandannas and machine guns, Contra is a wayyy better game than Ikari Warriors.

  • I wonder if anyone on this planet has been able to beat Ikari Warriors for NES without using the ABBA continue code or the stage select code

  • Loved this game in the arcade. Played many a quarter on this, Rush n' Attack and Bad Dudes a lot.

  • Good game, but damn if it ain't hard.

  • gurilla war for the NES also by SNK, is almost the same game

  • i love this it realy takes me back thanx

  • Classic. Remember playing this on the snow days when school was closed. I would be on this for hours at a time.

  • Arcade version or NES?

    Just curious.

  • I was not fortunate enough to own an arcade booth at home back in 1990, so I it was NES.

  • I fucking hated this game on my NES.

  • wow this takes me back. I haven't played this since I was 6.

  • playing this game on nes was the worst idea ever but the arcade is the bomb with alittle weed lol

  • There's actually a bug in this game that makes it impossible to beat without the cheat code. I worshiped this game in the arcades back then--but this NES version was a disappointment. (But I still played it for HOURS AND HOURS)

  • ABBA bitches..

  • I had this game when I was a kid and hated it. It'd be impossible without the infinite continues code. The Knife was the best upgrade, probably.

  • i like it but rambo first blood part 2 for the sega master system was better it was almost like this game but a little better

  • Press A-B-B-A each time you die for unlimited lives.

  • nuqDaq 'oH puchpa''e'

  • Was HEAVY BARREL a sequel to this game? Same mechanics.

(Heavy Barrel was one of my arcade favorites back in the day!)

  • No. Ikari Warriors 2 and 3 was the sequels to this game. Heavy Barrel was another game that played a lot like this game from the same type of genre. Heavy Barrel was one of my favorite arcade machines, back in the day, too.

  • get nes joystick for this game :D

  • i must have passed this game like 200 times. it was addicting

  • In what other game can you drive around in a PINK tank & helicopter and still feel like a MAN?

  • @gutterguy720 None other.

  • your videos are so good that i need a auto rating software to give all 5 stars^^

  • I loved this game alot.

i used to end the arcade in 1 quarter.

when i played it for nes and made it to what i thought was the end in 1 game with out using the abba cheat i was blown away. 3 times the size of the arcade makes this game awsome

  • This game is horrible.

  • i know it ain't the same but you can play as the guys from this game on King of Fighters as well as Metal Slug 6 & 7

  • I got my copy some five months ago. Man, I remember the crazy difficulty from my childhood when this first came out.

Never saw the arcade version of it, but I DID see an arcade version of the third one. That looked pretty sweet.

  • hell yeah this games still koo. I loved it in 2 players and when i ran outta lives i'd press a and b and steal my brothers extra lives lol.

  • No fair, I wish I grew up in the 80s :(

  • you can buy a joy stick for the NES, does that not work for turning the turret?

  • One of my all time favorites on Amstrad CPC 6128!

  • Didn't Metal Slug do the same thing with the tanks.

  • [comic book guy]

    Gayest. Tank. Evurr.

    [/comic book guy]

  • I like the Atari 2600 version better.

  • I just can't stand the speed of the character! Man, IT'S WAR!!!!!! You cannot walk your way through! You have to run, sometime crawl and always shoot people in the face. If the character is supposed to be so confident that he walk with no shirt, all oil up at a speed that he can be admired by every insects of the jungle, they should have give him only a knife with limited use, that would have been a good reason for been hard!! I prefer the sequels and Jason 13th which, means a lot!

  • Gotta love how 80s video games were filled with Rambo knock off and the 70s games had Star Wars knock offs.

  • give me 'victory road' bitch

  • i wish we could get a konami vs capcom or Capcom vs namco!

  • I really like Ikari Warriors but if I had to choose between Ikari Warriors and Contra I would choose Contra without thinking twice. Really fun game though, it reminds me a lot of Commando for the NES.

  • did you know Ralf and Clark from The king of fighters series are from this game? i think Heidern and Leona are too but im not for sure......

  • you're right...I just found out

They're called the "Ikari Team" from 94 up to now...

  • I like Heavy Barrel more. That game was kick ass.

  • If you look at Super Stardust HD it has the same control idea as the arcade version of Ikari Warriors.

  • Guerrilla War is like a much improved version of this game, graphix are much better in it.

  • That cover seems strangely similar to the Contra cover.

  • um... they didn't release it for the PDP-1!

  • they sounded better to... mmmm take in that good SID chip sound!

  • Of course, this was the era when the C64 was slaughtering the consoles, and most console games were better on the C64!!!!

  • No comment about the look of the tiny pink tank?

  • lol its should be red

  • Pink tank FTW !!!

  • yea they made nice conversion for nes

  • The people have spoken! Guerrilla War must be reviewed.Since Mark didn't even mention it,he probably hasn't played it yet.

  • Yeah it would be nice to see some games like this now days. Last thing I played close to this on the PS3 was Commando 3 and it was too dam easy. Anyhow awesome video man.

  • I like the spins of death.

  • Trade em, don't sell em! Get you're game on!

  • A B B A !! Quick!

  • Please also do the Atari 2600 version. That would be awesome!

    Thanks :D

  • Thanks for posting this good review. I played Ikari Warriors many times.

  • I have an ikari warriors arcade machine but it doesnt have rotating joysticks...

  • Is it the first game?

  • Whats with all the Pink in the game?

  • i soo wish that i could get an original outrun hydraulic or afterburner arcade machine.that would be awesome!!!

  • I didn't like this game, but it had a certain sort of classy unlikability. Like how you know fine art is good by how its treated and presented, and how you know a video game player is good if he has "itz" "v2" or altcaps in his name.
