@ktbug10585 thank you for the answer. I'm using mac and its magic keyboard which has no numpad whatsoever and magic mouse that has no middle mouse click. So far its been a nightmare trying to navigate blender using them. Any suggestion on what I should do?
@AwesomeRoyur I'm just starting out as well. My MacBook Pro doesn't have a numpad, there's no numpad mode anymore, and I couldn't find a way to map a keystroke (say, "fn + number") to numpad entries. Then I learned there's a fix in Blender.
Start a new default project with command+n, then hit command+comma to enter preferences. Under "interface" there's an option on the left side called "Emulate Numpad". Check it and then make sure you "Save As Default".
Hi there! In the default mode, you can use the number pad keys to rotate the camera view. If you go under the VIEW menu, you can see the different views assigned to the different keys. To inch around like I did at 1:47 you use 4 and 6 on the number pad section of your keyboard. I hope this helps! I know it can be crazy confusing.
You can extrude the adjacent faces all selected at once without any harmful concequences by using the "Extrude Individual" button on the Mesh Tools pannel, instead of just hitting the E key.
Then scale them all at once with S in their "Individual Origins", extrude again and let go (just E), and use ALT+S to scale them inwards (Individual Origins as well). This will make it less painstaking and time consuming.
Very good and informative tutorial. This helped me alot with my work for school. Thanks!

What did you press on the keyboard for 1:05 and how to rotate the dice like 1:47? I find navigation for blender is a nightmare compare to others...

I'd like to give you just a few tips:
You can extrude the adjacent faces all selected at once without any harmful concequences by using the "Extrude Individual" button on the Mesh Tools pannel, instead of just hitting the E key.
Then scale them all at once with S in their "Individual Origins", extrude again and let go (just E), and use ALT+S to scale them inwards (Individual Origins as well). This will make it less painstaking and time consuming.
But you've done a perfect job, anyway. :)
Cheers

@smthngdffrnt Search for "UV mapping". I think that may be what you're looking for.
