In a long fight it was more effective to hold on using mana emeralds and mana pots until you went straight to 40% mana and burned evocation. Burning your evoke as soon as you can could allow for multiple uses in a raid encounter.

Maybe because Mage armor is a huge DPS killer, Molten armor is the way to go if you want max DPS from your Mage. Glypth of Molten Armor provides an additional 2% crit which means in total 5% crit but what do I know? I only pull 4500dps on Patchwerk.

well, why do you use ure mana emerald on 2.5k, much better to use it when u have like 5-7k or somethin because then u have the cooldown much faster next time u use it and u will never go oom, (with pots too ofc) but when ure out of emeralnd u create new ones.

with the new patch out making pots a one time use mana conversation has gotten hard luckily for mages though our mana gems are not effected by this and we can use them repeadetly with the exception of a 2 minute delay the best way i have found for keeping mana up is popping 1 gem at about roguhly 75% then as soon as the cooldown is up if you are not already oom pop it again then when you are oom use evocate then pop another mana gem when its up at this point conjure more and pop a mana pot

if you by any chance have a frost mage with winter's chill. imp scorch will be useless as the fire mage has increased dps without using scorch and the frostmage can use any frost spell for winters chill..however the basic mage rotation still remains 5scorch debuffs 8fireballs scorch rince and repeat

thanks for the tips and stuff. on my mage i have a pretty sweet setup, just 2 of those Xi'ri's gifts, basicly. same effect, anyways, its nice because you can chain them for the most part. but just wandering, why would u map cone of cold and dragons breath? the CD isnt worth it and the effect is better on dragons breath.

whats ur chars name,i want to do an armory to see what gear you have to hit so low (no offense). and get new spec for icy veins. plus raid buff will get you much more mana regen..also being smart to use mage armor...plus for your gear and more than likely raid experience, it would be smart to go 40/0/21 arc icy veins

with that you don't really NEED mage armor imo molten becomes more important

but i guess it depends on the length of the fight

but if your a good mage you can conserve mana without having mage armor

and actually it wouldn't be smart to go 40/0/21 because that spec only compares to fire if you have 2 pieces of t5 and a good enough mana pool to sustain the spamming of arcane blast

i find a 5 fireball 3 scorch rota works well for btoh clear casting and crits :) plus u keep scorch up ^^

Thought it'd be good to add as well to try and save your cooldowns until the boss is at and below the 20% mark for when Molten Fury kicks in (assuming your Fire spec of course), the added 20% extra damage can lead to alot of DPS when trinketed with combustion and icy veins if you're the 2/48/11 spec

Except in instances that aren't Kara, bosses have upwards of 5 million HP. Your cooldowns are up more than once during a fight. Twidling your thumbs until 20% just to do a bit more damage is a waste of time.

Plus, this video was posted 4 months ago, a lot has changed since then, I don't know why people feel the need to continue commenting here.

Mages dint need mana regen. We have our gems and evocate and mana pots that we can use to keep our mana up. Its not worth the lost talent point to take the regen when we have all these thing to keep our mana up. If shit really goes south go invisible and drink but if your doing that things are not going as they should...great vid.

With the changes to spirit in 2.4 that might be true, but the crit bonus from MoA would probably give more mana regen via Elemental Mastery. Also, as a DPS role you're obviously going to want to do what improves your DPS.

This is purely speculation though, I've never read up on the benefit of Mage Armor vs Molten Armor in extended fight situations.
