  • There's another version of this song on video, but I haven't seen it in years. The band is in a studio but only Michael's face can be seen for the most part; the others are behind screens. Still, an amazing song from the I.R.S years.

  • Both versions are on the 'Best of the IRS years' DVD. I simply adore the other one where Stipe is actually doing the vocals in the take, as he couldn't stand lip-synching. You can watch it on youtube, just paste R.e.m. - so. central rain (I'm sorry) in the search field and it appears on top :-)

  • I remember, I remember...too. The band once referred to the second album as almost a country music demo. But there are nice things there. And So. Central Rain is one of their finer songs from then until now.

This vid caught my eye, too, cuz if you spent any time in the South you knew or knew of someone who had a yardful of whirlygigs. The vid made the song adhere to something plain and beautiful and vanishing in the South, even if rendered in this vid's arty way,

  • I remember this song and clip.

REM first albums was the better !!

    :)

  • again, a thousand thanks. kiss.
