dont get me wrong, i greatly appreciate today's gymnastics. however, to me it seems like back then's gymnasts were so much more solid and confident in a way. i'm not quite sure how to word it, but a solid, more original way, like they did it for personal benifit and gain as opposed to nowadays where it seems like all the gymnasts we see today are performing tricks just for the sake of performing tricks to say that they did it and show eachother up.
@ffalcons102 I think the way gymnastics has developed since this era (in the montage) gymnasts need to put in the difficulty to get all bonuses to separate them from each other, whereas in 89-92 it was still artistic gymnastics. they did difficult stuff but there was room for grace and beauty as well, and it made it so much more special to watch. just my personal pov
OMG it creeps me when the moves went so well with the music, almost choreographed to it! Especially Silivas' floor~ I can't put into words how much I love this montage! Thanks!
@Hasoginy It was chorepgraphed to the music back then. Music was important for the overall feel of the routine. Nowadays it is more of elevator music and you can hit any accent in the music at any point (almost) Silivas was gorgeous. Watch Dobre from 1987 Worlds when she won, her choreo is perfect to the music. And also Omeliantchik from 1987 as well. This era was when the difficulty and the artistry went hand in hand!
wow its just crazy that in 91-92 chusovitnia and bontas were doing full twisting double layouts which are still one of the hardests moves in womens floor today and that was almost 20 years ago... and i havent seen any girls this year competing it yet
That's absolutely right. Larissa Latynina is the most decorated of all time, and Svetlana Khorkina is second. Not 100% sure of the exact number but I think Latynina has 25 and Khorkina has 22.
Probably my favourite era of gymnastics.

gymshiv 2 years ago
@gymshiv She and Oksana Chusovitina were the first to perform it. It's actually named after Chusovitina.

I like the music! Grew on me, too.

Awesome as always. And I can't believe Chuso is on a most successful list from '89 to '92, it's just a testament to her insane longevity.
