yeaaa rigghtt! today's wwe roster would destroy old school wwf roster. old school wrestling is way more dramatic and there's less action in their matches. the old school cats are cool and all but wrestling has evolved since then.
Can you imagine "Dr.D" David Schultz, Rip "the Crippler" Oliver, Killer Khan, the Great Kabuki, the Von Erichs, the (original) Fabulous Freebirds, "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer, among others, facing TODAY'S WWE roster? In my opinion, the "old school"-ers would ANNIHILATE those WWE pretty-boys!
Why do people (want to) make an issue of, whether or not, pro-wrestling is "fake?" In my opinion, pro-wrestling is NO DIFFERENT than (watching) the movies. At least in pro-wrestling, unlike the movies, there's no such thing as a "stunt double."
He purely was. This is a fab upload, pure and utter hardcore. Always favored Dr. Death Steve William over Dr. D Schultz but this was a great bout.
Sister Sherri left us a few years ago; Buddy and she are irreplaceable, same as my precious cat who left us on St. Patty's Day. Her name was "Little Mishkee Morgan" 1993-2009.
I love it how Dave protected the business on the Morton Downey Jr. show, even after he was pretty much done due to the Stossel incident. He denies the practice of blading, but as the match clip begins, guess who does does the gig job.
did big time wrestling have differnet cameras then portland did. I grew up watching portland and never seen the other camera angles. was the show produced different in washington?
im disapointed that david schultz said bad things about buddy rose and his time in the nw in dr.d's shoot interview....the angles and the heat in portland were off the charts!! its like david forgot about these years..i had the good fortune up in vancouver bc to see dr.d on stampede, portland, and vancouver territories and he NEVER had as much pop as he did in these areas. HE WAS WAAAY OVER!!his wwf stint was garbage.
if he dissed the playboy and pnw it was sour grapes any other wrestler will tell you it was the best territory ever to work for. typical dr d sour grapes...
reminds me of the Stampede Wrestling territory! man, i miss those days! Dr.D OWNED Stampede! nobody could beat him, not Leo Burke or Mr Hito nobody! he would have been the first Stone Cold in the WWE if he hadn't have caused himself to get into trouble and get fired there!
u guys are stupid. Takeing territory was a fantastic idea. And a great move by vince. By doing that WWE and WCW became larger than life in the bussines world and in every americans home. They made a lot of money. And entertained us all at the same time.
WCW never had a territorial system. You mean the National Wrestling Alliance. The territories were doomed because of cable TV. Portland was one of the best and the fact that they were able to stay in business through 1992 is remarkable. Jim Crockett deserves a lot of the blame as he shut these guys out and just expanded with his promotion.
slight correction if i may, lowell......it was the National Wrestling Alliance. 'WCW' was a 'superpromotion' of jim crocketts NWA mid atlantic territory and remnants of the georgia and florida NWA offices
no problem lowell...when the terrirtories died,my love for the behind the scenes business of wrestlng died. Angles ended and wrestlers lost ' loser leaves town' match and fresh workers would come into your area..NOT THE SAME OLD TALENT FOR 10 YEARS OVER AND OVER.....just had to vent hahaha
unfortunately up in vancouver bc we didnt get a chance to see the last few years of the portland territory. 'Bigtime wrestling' moved from kcpq 13 to ktzz 22 (which wasnt available to canada) around 84 -ish which really sucked.
@slick, the last time I saw it Sandy Bahr owned it 1993, or so and the matches were being taped in Vancover Washington. Then it went bankrupt again. Poor Buddy Rose was about 450LBS.
@slickshapiro you said it and people forget that about the territories. The nwa alliance of territories kept angles and wrestlers fresh by letting them move around. It was the best..
that's right...they showed this in Canada and I remember watching this. But it got cutoff for some reason. Alot of guys came from Big time wrestling like Curt henning, Greg valentine, etc
As a wrestling fan who grew up in Florida and rarely got to see PNW, I really appreciate seeing what a great territory this was. PLEASE keep it coming.
Dayum! Old Portland Wrestling footage on YouTube! I recognize Tommy Rogers and Dizzy Hogan (Brutus Beefcake) but can't recall some of the other ones here.
What's with the fucking hairstyles?! Big Daddy would have licked the shit out of these swishes. *EASY....EASY....EASY!!*

Shultz was the first to talk and act the way he did, Austin was basically a copy.

@supahip do you really why did portland not use these cameras all the time? was it as cost issue? Do you know larry neat or rich patterson?

@xxllmm4 there never used to mats outside any ring until the WWF got soft in the late 80's
