I've become a massive fan of the Killers since about 4 months ago, and whilst I used to listen to frankly rubbish 'emo' 'alternative punk' music, they've really opened my eyes (no pun intended) to fall back in love with decent music like Bright Eyes, Kaiser Chiefs, Bombay Bicycle Club etc etc, through their influences and style. I love the Killers' cover, because I love their style, but I always love the originals and Bright Eyes are such an amazing band :)
The killers did a great cover, not better nor worse, it stands on it's own. More to the point I hear Freedom in the middle east in this song........Wrap your head round that.
props to the guys who wrote the song but the killers version is way better but thats comin from a die hard killers fan. if i was a country scotish guy i would like ur version better, but im not.
For real, Im a musician myself. I know when I cover a song, its not to outdo the original, its because I enjoy the song so much that I want to make my own version of it. As for this song, it obvious rocks ass. The first bright eyes song I ever heard, and one of my favorites. My gf let me listen to it, her name is Sabrina, which is also inside the CD cover of the album "Casadaga" from which this song comes. Reminds me of her now =P
The thing I like about the Killers version is that the Killers made the decision to do a Bright Eyes song. It shows they have good taste. I don't think the Killers went into it thinking they were going to outdo this masterpiece, they just wanted to interpret a song they liked in their own way. I love Bright Eyes and the Killers, I think both versions, though different, are still a thousand times better than anything being played popularly today. Don't hate. the Killers are Bright Eyes fans too.
What?? a you serious? The Killers version is a fuckin´ bad Pop-Rock crap, with absolutely no true emotions, better listen to the passion of the instruments, boah i really cant stand the Killers version it causes pain in my ears, Oberst should ´ve never allowed them to make a cover of his terrific genius prophesising song
Couldn't have said it any better myself. By the way, whoever gave you thumbs down is obviously an ignorant twat whose head is so far up their ass that they can't even tell that Bright Eyes is clearly better than The Killers...
Honestly though, I don't think ANYONE should do a cover of ANY Bright Eyes song. No one will do them anywhere close to justice.
I really think there's no idea in comparing The Killers to Bright Eyes, since their music are so apart from each others... I do think, though, that both versions are awesome. :)
does anyone know if he performed this on any talk shows or anything? like late night with craig ferguson or letterman or anything. i always like watching those performances... i know he did hot knives on letterman, so i guess it seems unlikely that he did more than one cassadaga song on that show.
Hah, I could never dream of fabricating such a genius song. No, this is the song "Four Winds" off the CD "Cassadaga" by the band Bright Eyes, fronted by Conor Oberst. I just posted the lyrics and Googled some pictures - I had nothing to do with the actual song. Thanks for the praise though!

I love the killers, but nothing, NOTHING, can compare to Oberst. He just has so much raw emotion in his voice. Fuck, he's cool.
That's my opinion anyway. :)

Best song I've ever heard. I listened to the Killers version, and it was total crap in comparison, and I really like the Killers.

That's an excellent point; I always try to relay that to people when they complain about covers...
