This definately isn't a popular subject matter and yet it may be one of the most important to discuss. I believe that this movie doesn't shy away, instead it compells us to look through Walter's eyes, instead of merely having to look at him. Kevin Bacon dives head on into this role and is astonishing with it. I believe there is a difference between someone who has a problem and wants to change and someone who merely hurts people.
I have wanted to see this film for some time now. The deeply taboo subject matter indicates directorial courage. If I was a victim, or indeed a relative of the sort of man Kevin Bacon portrays it would be be very hard to see him as anything other than a monster. But I do not believe paedophiles or born evil. Im not a bleeding at all but rather than just stating the obvious- that what they are doing is vile, I think their psychosis needs to be explored. These people are not normal cont;

Although im yet to see it, I think the film is brave in so far that the director knew the subject was so controversial. Another example (though probably less taboo) is The Devils Own in which Brad Pitt plays a ruthless IRA terrorist leading a double life- you don't sympathise with his character but you do see that people who do terrible things, when all is said and done, are still fundamentally flesh and blood. None of us can fully understand the contours of another life.

True- I agree they are demented. This is why I hate the tabloid press. In the United Kingdom we have had cases of innocent people being falsely accused by idiotic lynch mobs due to irresponsible sensationalising by certain papers. That makes me very uncomfortable as well. I think there needs to be much more severe restrictions on the way these cases are handled- there needs to be tougher punishments, but unless trials need to be reported in a responsible way.
