Well, it´s pretty impressive buuuuut... he picks up the tonality of the ringtone and with the basic chords improvises a song (beautiful) but he doesn´t converts the ringtone, just plays something in the same tonality.
@CabLuigi I don´t want to give the impression that I´m trying to undervalue what he has done, I wouldn´t be able to do that, not even in my dreams XD, but with the chord progression is not as difficult as it seems to be (sorry for my poor english, I´m spanish...)
@newFranzFerencLiszt There are many pianists that are absolutely amazing at improvising. I have a friend that plays random things for me every once in a while.
he;s obviously a genius...amazing talent....he can play the piano in his sleep...i imagine many early composers where like this...music was a way of life for some back then..no tv or internet...they must of learnt and knew all there was to know..the rest was down to imagination and composition...this guy is very good and truly understands what music is...his way of interpretation and adoption of any music old or new for a unique theme is very refreshing and memorising...
@whataboutredlorry If you are a musician by trade, you eventually learn to hear exactly which note you hear, down to half-notes and stuff - it's like learning a language like Chinese, where slight variations make different words. When you start, you will have difficulty hearing any difference. But with practice you will start to hear it. Transferring it to your instrument of choice is not difficult after that. You are used to it - it's like typing blind on your keyboard.
THAT is a musician indeed. Speaking the langiage fluently, the one spoken now as well as the one they spoke a few centuries ago. Amazing

Notice how his left leg marks the cadence points by swinging. Could almost be used to teach students to analyze phrasing.

it's really just a straightforward i-iv-V-i progression, can be readily adapted to any style. but he's still extremely skilled.

Most improv rearrangement of prior experimentation; he's familiar with subject and in his comfort zone.

The actual improvisation isnt as hard as many would think. Whats impressive, is the speed at which he did it!
To get what he did, I would have to go at least half the tempo

Hey, Richard Grayson should improvise Sesame Street Theme in a 12-tone serialist style. Then he'd get my respect.
