Praise too to MJ for extending the art form of the video clip. He may not have been a visionary but he gave others the space and time and the money to stretch their wings. This is my all time favorite Jacksons clip and one of the top five videos of all time because of the chances it took. It might look corny now but in time people will see what a brilliant piece of art this is.

I remember when this video came out in 1980, before MTV, before promo videos were anything more than just a band playing on a stage. Michael Jackson single-handedly turned music videos into a true art form, and this video, before Billie Jean, Beat It, and Thriller confirmed his mastery of the genre, proves he was light years ahead of anyone else in this. A powerful video, a wonderful message, with music that rocks.

Even Michael Jackson knew this, he tried to have fun with it in the mid-80's when he planted his own stories about sleeping in hyperbaric chambers and wanting to buy the Elephant Man's bones, all lies he himself created in order to show the media to be gullible.
