  • suena a berio

  • the murderer of Puccini

  • The Berio version is a disaster. What nerve. I knew him and he turned from a good composer into a hack. Leave the opera as it is!

  • Of course, it's fascinating and beautifully orchestrated, but it all just seems to wander. I think Puccini should have reconsidered killing off Liu. Her death rather throws into greater relief the generally self-centered characters of Turandot and Calaf.

  • now it begins sound like Berio rather than Puccini

  • It was in the Kiel Opera House in Germany earlier this year. The tenor is Emmanuel di Villarosa.

  • It makes more sense than Alfano's, doesn't it? I mean, a great happy chorus at the end doesn't suit the tragedy that happened during the last act, I think.

  • I actually don't agree, I mean the people are just standing here. In Alfano's version they're glad that they are freed from the princess's cold reign... She got warm and now knows what love is.

But notwithstanding, Berio's version is also good...

It's only a matter of taste, which differs between people.

  • It's really great to have a version of this up on YouTube ... thanks for posting! Do you happen to know the orchestra / conductor / venue?
