  • good to see two of the best family cars in australia being used properly. i am and always will be a holden fan so its sad for me that the ford is slightly quicker over the quarter even though it lacks the v8's instant punch. as for the smoke out of the clubsport i think maybe all of those burnouts might have bent a pushrod with the constant high revs the ford will never have the intoxicating roar of the chev v8 though and the commy looks ten times better. both awesome cars and it is just a mat

    The engine is an LS3 V8 engine produced by General Motors who owns both companies, which is in both the Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette.... So yes, it is a Chev engine.

  • @chinchillawrangler the falcon has had the supercharged 5l (302) for almost a year now. i can see what you meen about the awd but rwd is just so much more fun to drive imo. i raced a boss 335 gtp in my xr6 turbo the other week and considering he had 65 more kws than me he didnt beat me by that much, although i got a perfect launch and he prob had t/c on and wasnt trying his heart out like me haha

  • @ohhdayyum +1, a lot of Holden fan boys don't realize there is a torque restriction, fuel cut restriction and many other restrictions on the car that are given from factory and are simply removed for about $700 without a dyno tune, $1500 with a dyno tune, dyno tune both those cars, and the Holden would eat dust.

    Turbo lag is also fixable with aftermarket gear too, 20k saved buying a Ford over Holden, easily fixes Fords hold backs.

  • How come in the drag race in all the in-car footage the F6 is rapidly gaining and about to overtake the HSV, yet from the outside cameras, they are the same? Are they trying to make it look a lot closer because they don't want to show how much quicker the turbo 6 cylinder is than the traditional V8?

  • At 1minute 30 seconds they takeoff but the ford doesnt take off until a split second later. The driver had not pressed the throttle until the holden already had half a car length.So of course the holden will be in front. Even a toyota corrolla would have the jump on the f6 because of that reason.

  • The F6 does take a moment to get spooled up and onto the power, but that launch in the drag race was just a bad reaction from the "race car driver" [cough].

  • @tkotomy No shit the F6 has a turbocharged engine, think about it. The Holden uses a V8 so it has more upfront power, the F6 uses a Turbocharged in-line 6 so the power increases exponentially off the line. Nothing is as simple as it looks, learn more about cars then come back.

Don't act like an internet hero thinking you're going to tell me specs of an engine that anyone can find out and you're gonna sound like a boss. I work on these cars all the time and i know what they're capable of. The F6 launches much quicker off the line than shown her. Hit the drags and you will see F6's leaving Holden LS's in the dust. This test was not accurate.

  • @tkotomy Incorrect, the Ford has a turbocharged in-line 6 cylinder engine. This means although it has less power up front, it will stack on eventually. So if a V8 went up against a V8 it would be a fairer race then this and it would be exciting to see the results of.

A stock FG F6 launches much quicker off the line than it did in this test. The guy driving it didn't know how to launch it. I understand that you think that the Holden LS should launch it off the line quickly because it's a V8 however the I6 has monster torque as well.

  • @jessy351 Think of it son. In this race Holden had the power quicker so it started to go faster. The Forsd had a Turbocharged in-line 6 cylinder car which produced power quicker once it started. A V8 against a V8 would be a more fair test then this was.

  • i would like to know why people think aussie cars are cap they look good, generally bloody reliable and are quite well built and most importantly front engine/rear wheel drive, BMW live by this platform its a shame more cars are made front wheel drive these days.

    I love both these cars id properly lean more towards the f6 simply because that straight 6 is a magic bit of kit try finding an engine with a flatter torque curve.

  • For fuck sake they both have their advantages and disadvantages. A car is not necessarily better than a car because it is slightly faster.

    Holden: Shit Gearbox, good grip, Ford: Not as good grip, good gearbox. Holden: better off the line with V8 power, Ford: better at maintaining high speed quicker because of Turbocharger.

Also, the holden race cars use ford internals like rear diff, rear suspension, front suspension, cylinder heads etc. Holden has the better drivers and support which is what wins the races, not the cars. The cars are virtually the same except for the shell and badges.

  • I have an Xf Falcon and A HQ Premier, Both mint im talking about the commodore not All Holden's im Saying top gear got there facts wrong when talking about the car, saying it was all Aussie v8 muscle its a fucking yank v8. and the new falcon is more Aussie then Holden it uses a German gearbox, The Drive Train of the new Holden's are American even if the shell is designed and made in Australia. All commodores except the current generation where based on European opals.

  • why did they do this? i hate doing a comparison of an Inline6 Turbo against a V8 Clubby. compare the Clubby to the GT or whatever FPV has as a big V8 (dont be like NOOOOOB, i just dont know FPV's lineup that well). two extremely different engines. and compare the Inline6 with... nothing because its awesome and unique in its own right.

The straight 6 engine block is based on an engine block that was originally designed by Ford North America, but since then it's been heavily modified by Ford Oz. The rest of the car is pure Australian design. The Holden uses a Chevy made engine.

  • FPV would only have the 4 piston brakes in this video you can get premium brake package with bigger 6 piston brakes and the FPV would still cost less and stop quicker and do this test with the new 5ltr GT and it would smoke the club sport of the line and the f6 would beat the club sport in the more realistic rolling star race at 20kph+. plus with the FG falcon you can hold the steering wheel properly the interior fittings aren't loose and are made of good quality materials it just more ergonomic

    Ford Falcons are designed and built in Australia and use a German gearbox. Holden/HSV are Australian designed and built and use an American engine assembled in Mexico (or Canada?) so yeah.

  • I really don't think the Aussie Topgear is all that bad - it sure is better than 5th Gear! It was just doomed from the start... it was trying to aussify top gear. If you compare this to series one and two of British Topgear, you realise this is actually very good... but nothing can live up to the brilliant show that British Topgear is these days, let alone do an Australian version of it.

    Not really a bad show, just an impulsive idea IMHO.
