As mayor of Wasilla, Palin cut property taxes by 75% and eliminated personal property and business inventory taxes. She eliminated enough wasteful spending to fund improvements to the roads and sewers, increase funding to the police department, and create storm-water treatment to protect freshwater resources. She also had her consituents actually vote on whether or not they approved of constructing an expensive municipal sports complex. Wasilla grew from a small town into a prosperous city.

After her two terms as mayor, she was appointed to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, where she discovered the unethical special interests of some fellow republicans. She actually joined with a democrat, Eric Croft, in order to expose them, and they finally resigned. In 2006 she ran against democrat Tony Knowles for governor of Alaska. Even they he grossly outspent her, she won with a margin of 7.4%, becoming the first female governor, and youngest governor in Alaskan history at 42.

As governor of Alaska, in 2007 Palin signed a record $6.6 billion operating budget into law. At the same time, she used her veto power to make the second-largest cuts of the construction budget in state history. In 2008, Palin vetoed $286 million from the FY09 capital budget. She also kept her promise to sell the Westwind jet purchase by formor governor Murkowski, spent 80% less than him on gubernational (personal) expenses, and refused to accept a pay raise proposed by the state commission.

While there is no sales tax or income tax in Alaska, state revenues doubled to $10 billion in 2008. Wanting to reduce Alaska's reliance on federal funding, Palin requested less in each year than Murkowski requested in his last year, and still the state generated a surplus.
In summary, she championed the reduction of wasteful spending and taxes and sought ethics reform even within her own party.
Her approval rating was 93% in her first year, with an average of 70.4% over her entire run.

Obama defended and even further empowered the Patriot Act, refused to release the photos from Guantanamo Bay, and wants no persecution of anybody involved. If you hated Bush because of the Patriot Act and torture, then surely you must also hate obama.
Sarah Palin was one of the most effective governors in American history, but since the media didn't mention that, you no nothing about it. Five minutes of research is all it takes, but that's more research than any Palin-hater has ever done.
