@dukehitchcock I'm not sure where your point lies...Aikido is one of the best self-defense techniques, as it requires very little power to subdue your opponent. Actually, several polices forces over the globe use it. Muay thai and boxing are poor choices for pure self defense; they're both derived forms designed for sport. Krav Maga users do not have a competition form: sparring is very strictly regulated, and NOT full contact, as it is extremely violent and very often lethal...
@Defiant1901 aikido is not the best self defense but its all opinion for that matter. i will say ive sparred aikido guys with my muay thai style and yet to have one do any damage.
@pacificswell I wouldn't claim it's the best; the best form of self defence is a semi-automatic rifle, but it is effective if your aim is to subdue your opponent without harming him. If we're talking effectiveness, the best would probably be Krav Maga. Muay Thai, like Sanda, Kickboxing and MMA is a derivative martial art designed mainly as a sport. As such, it isn't as effective in a real life situation, where your life may be threatened, as the original forms (Jiu-jitsu, Old Muay Thai, Kenpo...
@pacificswell which isn't to say it can't be used!!! I mean, if you're in a fight, you use what you know. But my point is that if you're training to counter people who use weapons, it's probably a better idea to learn a martial art that focusses on that, and that a martial art isn't 'rubbish' just because they don't have ring fights or competitions.
boxing hand work and head movement are more advanced then mt's but when it comes to angles, speed and force mt has boxing beat. Take young tyson vs any well train Thailand mt fighter. Tyson can dodge a punch but will get caught by the follow up knee. Same scenario if tyson manages to dodge it and cartches the fighter with a hook te fight should be over. An effictive fight is someone who has mastered it all. I do oth and i find that my boxing background helps me to avoid alot of hits.
Against opponents who are really good at the knees, watch your bob and weave. Seriously, if you catch a knee to your chin, it is good night. Be careful.
@mytimetravellingdog well dont correct peoples perception on how he preforms these techniques correct them by making videos so they can visualize what properly formed techniques of muay thai looks like
@mytimetravellingdog Not trying to say i know more then you, because i'm just getting into Muay thai, but i've seen it being called a hook on like 4 different sites now, and those were just the first 4 i looked on.
its looks like a telegraph because in muay thai much of the power you are using comes from the legs and hips, when done quickly and explosive an opponent may not know just how to react to a forceful and agile blow
im no muay thai expert but wont this get you a knee to the face?

well said,however
you shouldnt be giving away for free all the deep details of boxing.
these people need to pay and pay high dollar so they respect and value what they are told and then they will appreciate the techniques more..

This comment has received too many negative votes show
their not proper hooks to the body, maybe silly muay thai hooks but MT's handwork is nothing compared to boxings though

i'm new to muay thai, so please correct if i'm wrong, but isn't it pretty easy to raise a knee to his face when he ducks like that?
Daothes 3 years ago
thats why you use this move in combos to keep your oppenent off guard
SEVR808 2 years ago
yes, yes it is.
i do muay thai and just dont pay attention to this guy he has made fundamental mistakes in ALL his videos and has no place doing videos on it.
firstly its not a hook, he is doing a body shot and doing them badly.
in boxing you can bob under and body shot, liek you said its not advisable in muay thai cause you will get a knee in the face.
but the body shot when done properly as part of a combo is a really nifty and damaging little punch and is a fave of mine

Maybe I'm missing something but isn't that kinda impractical? Like, aren't you telegraphing that hardcore?
Corythepure 3 years ago
not really, it looks that way because hes doing it slowly and breaking down the steps for demonstration purposes
