  • im only here cuz of my homework. this didn't help.

  • Its suppose to be positioned way near the edge of our solar system isn't it? If that's true, how many years will it take for it to reach its destination?

  • This music was great, it had the classic synthesizer sound I like.

  • to all youtubers hating on the music... this track was selected by the hipsters off tomorrow! well, who's embarrassed now?

  • Isen't it funny how NASA TV seems stuck in the 80's & 90's? just go to NASA TV nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html and take a look. I mean it's not even in HD and the editors must have beards full of VHS. Just listen to the music!!!!

    hahahahaha

  • i got a boner from listening to this

  • aliens will come and wonder if it is a giant laser cannon.

  • this may b awesome but the music is far from it C:

  • First impression : "Wow, it looks like a star destroyer".

  • it's amazing how BIGGER these space probes are getting JWST is MASSIVE! I wonder what rocket is being used for this.

  • @EpiDemic117

The current plan is to launch it on an Ariane 5 ECA. While it is a big telescope, it has only half the mass of Hubble.

  • They should take this video down with this cheap 1980's music, IT IS 2010.

  • @micoscopic well 2011 now but it wasn't the time you commented

  • Imperial Destroyer at 1:46

  • i cant wait till its deployed and to see the pictures, i have a bad feeling about the launch tho =/

  • Wow I didn't know I was still in the 1980s. Thanks for letting me know.

  • hahaha

  • It was an American who was the pioneer of space travel Dr.Robert Godard. Even Von Braun has said it!

  • What kind of music is this? Are the satellites going to hump?

  • Ok I hear the Porno music but no comment time.

  • @Deathmagnets69 LOL for the porno music

  • Can it take pictures of Extra Solar Planets? I would like to see an image of an extra solar planet about the size of a pea at least..in my lifetime

  • joshig why the hell are you talking about poor people on a space telescope video if your poor go get a job my god...

  • good video, lethally wrong music though.

  • I really hope it works

  • Wow, that's a lot of deployments to make. Hopefully all goes well. Ever since the Galileo High-Gain Antenna screwup, deployments make me nervous. But hey, the MER's had a lot of them as well, and they went perfectly as planned. For JWST's cost, it had damn well better work.

  • i like the music...............

  • 'nods'

  • me too.

  • i can hardley wait for 2013 to see possibility a picture of where the universe started, JWST is going to help discover new stars, planets, and slove many space questions and mysteries

  • Agreed, it looks amazing.

If only the cash spent on religion had been spent on science, we'd have launched this thing 50 years ago!

  • Wrong.

  • How can you say "Wrong"? lol.

In technological and scientific terms, do you not agree that we would certainly be far, far ahead of where we are currently if monies had been invested in science rather than religion?

    It seems difficult to deny!

  • I refer to giving money to all religious organisations.

There are many secular organisations who provide aid throughout the world.

Breakthroughs ARE made easier with financial investment in equipment, man-hours etc.

I do not have a deep-seated hatred towards God as I don't believe he exists.

  • You don't think that churches don't keep a bit of that money? You don't think that some Pastors live like kings? You don't think that the Vatican is COVERED in gold and jewels? You don't think they all build multi-million dollar chuches and monuments?

However religion is nothing compared to the money spent on the military-industrial complex. Over 1 TRILLION dollars annually is spent on arms. About half from the USA. Not to mention the people who die because of it.

    Nasa's budget: 17.6B$

  • The world isn't really gentle to poor people and it may seem heartless but it shouldn't be. Life is a test. If you take a socialist idealogy too far, it isn't a test of an individual person any longer. The unity of people leaves the test being of the entire socialist political/economic system. It is a test that has been done with communism in Russia, China... and the long term results indicate failure. Be nice but being too generous to the poor just spreads their problems.

  • This was great. NASA has the best music!!! Where can I get the soundtrack?

  • Horrible music and video was a bit old looking. And no info whatsoever...

  • You're right - when there's more footage available I'll make a proper video and take this one down.

  • @BrunoTheQuestionable Hey I like the music and the video. You are not really dedicated to space exploration I guess.

  • What is that? Bad 80s disco music???

    Sounds terrible.

  • Whoever chose the music for this video should be publicly executed. I suggest hanging.

  • I this Hubble's successor?

  • It is indeed - but this one is infra-red only, to catch the most distant red-shifted objects.

  • I hear that they are going to launch a second space craft that will work with JWST; Its called the Starshade. Have you heard of it?

  • Its new to me. It appears to be an aid to imaging exoplanets - it is positioned in the line of sight and blocks the light from the star. I'm rather dubious.

  • @HAL11000 yeah man check it out on wikipedia

The starshade is a proposed sunflower-shaped coronagraph disc that was designed to block starlight that interferes with telescopic observations of other worlds.

  • That's hardcore.

  • It will sit at 2nd lagrange point right? Will they use it to detect exoplanets?

  • Yes, it will be at L2 (as will Herschel).

Its prime purpose is to observe at extreme distances - hence the big mirror and IR instruments (because of the redshift).

It should also be a good planet finder as planets radiate mainly in the IR.

  • they say it will be able to see end of time

  • Using infrared light its only possible to see back to the first stars, which were about 150 million years after the big bang. But thats 99% back to the beginning of time !

  • Nice one! Next week is time for me to start again I

    think!

  • Looking forward to it.

You're being sensible, and not spending too much time on YouTube. I should do the same.

  • cool video love to be in on the pictures from that telescope

  • Yes, they're going to be incredible.

Its going to be a long wait though - about 8 years !
